How do I recover after getting a back in DTU. How does it affect placements, MS and MBA applications?

TS
Tanya Sharma Posted On : July 5th, 2023
Studied at Delhi Technological university

Honestly speaking your grades have nothing to do with your corporate achievements. I have seen students with decent marks getting no recognition from any on-campus recruiter. My friend too got back. He worked hard with 2 different companies for 4 years and decided to go for an MBA. He gave it his all during his pre-MBA period and finally secured admission to a decent B School.

He soon realized that he was meant for corporate only. It was his personality, communication, and interpersonal skills rather than technical skills that made him successful in the corporate world.

He stated that he scored average marks but made good industry contacts and worked on his presentation skills. He was able to secure a great job and is doing well currently.

So what matters is the brand you associated yourself with rather than the marks you secured.

How do I prepare for an MS interview at IISc Bangalore?

NT
Nivedita Tripathi Posted On : July 21st, 2023
IISC Bangalore

My brother attended two interviews for the MS program at IISc Bangalore. The two departments in which he got interviewed were Aerospace Engineering and Mechanical Engineering. He cleared both interviews.

Here are a few tips to remember during your interview for MS at IISc Bangalore-

  1. Be clear with the basics.
  2. Be genuine and firm in your answers. Give the impression that you know what you are talking about.
  3. Be well-dressed and look confident.
  4. Use illustrations and examples for your answers where needed, and make use of the blackboard.

For his Mechanical Engineering Interview at IISc Bangalore, my brother was interviewed by a panel of 7-8 professors in a conference room. After the introductions were done, he was asked to explain some basic concepts on the blackboard. One such basic question was to plot the stress-strain curve for aluminum and rubber and to explain the difference. He was asked about his strengths among the topics covered in Mechanical Engineering. He was also asked about his final-year project.

For his Aerospace Engineering Interview at IISc Bangalore, he was first asked to fill out a form in which he assigned preferences to the four specializations offered by the department. He was also asked to choose between an M.S. and a direct Ph.D. The interview went on in a classroom, in a similar manner as the previous one. He was asked to solve a Heat Transfer Problem. After a few questions, he was asked why he chose to go for an M.S. instead of a direct Ph.D.

Both interviews lasted for 40 minutes. The interviewers at IISc Bangalore test your curiosity for learning new things and your aptitude for applying them. Remember never to sell yourself during such interviews, always seem eager to learn more. Prepare well and you will ace your interview.

How is an MS in surgery at Allied AIIMS Rishikesh, Jodhpur, Bhubaneswar, Raipur, Patna, and Bhopal?

PA
Puneet Aarya Posted On : June 4th, 2023
MBBS from All India Institute of Medical Sciences

General surgery at any of the AIIMS provides a lesser hands-on experience as there are so many MCh residents/Non-Academic. A surgery resident at AIIMS Rishikesh is posted in General Surgery as well as through all the surgical super-specialties. There will be a lot to learn here and the faculties are also good. Residents are made to do minor surgeries independently like Hydrocoele, Appendicectomy, etc. But in AIIMS you will just be assisting in most of the surgeries. You might be allowed to do these surgeries in the senior year although the number is very less. The institute usually handles complex cases so you might have little knowledge on general cases. The emergency cases are managed by JR and SR only. So you will get a lot of experience here.

You will be doing very minimal work on surgical super-specialties like Plastics, Surgical Gastro, Surgical onco, Neurosurgery, Pediatric Surgery, Urology et cetera. A unique aspect of AIIMS Rishikesh is its separate IBCC (Integrated Breast care center) under Dept of General Surgery which focuses on the multifaceted management of Breast cases in one place. So you will get the best hands-on experience here.

AIIMS Rishikesh General Surgery has 3 units. Each unit focuses on one or two of the organ systems like the colorectal unit, Hepato-pancreatic-biliary unit, etc.

Despite it all, I think pursuing surgery from a state college is better than the central institutes unless you are willing to do MCh in a particular branch.

Which is better for neurosurgery CMC Vellore or AIIMS Delhi?

TA
Tithi Aggrawal Posted On : July 4th, 2023
Lives in New Delhi

Both CMC Vellore and AIIMS Delhi are renowned Indian medical colleges and hospitals.

AIIMS Delhi is one of the super-specialty hospitals for neurosurgery. Even though CMC Vellore is equipped with all the facilities for the neurosurgery branch, AIIMS Delhi ranks better in this regard.

If you do end up in CMC Vellore, its neurosurgery is excellent in terms of patient management protocols and care. Its post-surgery rehabilitation is world-class and stands unparalleled.

Also, choose according to your preferred location. If you wish to settle in Delhi in the future, choosing AIIMS Delhi will be a wise decision. You can also choose based on the distance of the institution from your hometown.

Whichever of the two you choose, you will have to compromise your personal life to a great extent. However, you will gain a lot of experience for your career as a medical professional.

Overall, out of the two, AIIMS Delhi has more facilities for neurosurgery and a locational advantage.

Which is better for neurosurgery, CMC Vellore or AIIMS Delhi?

PA
Puneet Aarya Posted On : June 8th, 2023
MBBS from All India Institute of Medical Sciences

To pursue a specialization as complex as Neurosurgery, AIIMS is definitely the best choice. CMC Vellore is also a leading medical institute but the brand and credibility of AIIMS are unmatched.

A few highlights of the institute that makes it worth choosing are

  • AIIMS has a well-adapted system, a huge patient load, modern technology, renowned consultants, and well-equipped theaters.
  • AIIMS has a well-managed patient management protocol and executes the latest techniques in its surgical practice.
  • AIIMS provides an excellent cadaveric training facility with frequently conducted cadaveric courses.
  • AIIMS also has animal training labs where you can expertise on your microsurgical skills.
  • Delhi, the capital of India is the huh of everything. A city life, opportunities, hangout places, and coaching institutes.
  • Surprisingly enough, CMC Fees are much higher than AIIMS even though the salary at AIIMS is more than double of CMC.

Again, I don’t consider CMC any less but the above points are in strong favor of AIIMS.

How is MS general surgery residency at JIPMER when compared to other top ranked colleges for surgery?

KC
Kushal Chaudhuri, Posted On : September 21st, 2023
MBBS from Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Research, Pondicherry (2018)

The General Surgery is one of the best departments in JIPMER. Most residents here are extremely friendly and well-educated. This department has some of the best professors. Our HOD, Dr. Kate is a gem of a person and it's an honor to know him personally. Dr. Sistla is one of the senior-most professors in the department and is the role model of many.

The first-year residents have a hectic schedule due to an overload of work. There are all kinds of surgeries in JIPMER including many trauma surgeries so the OTs are busy all day.

Overall, the Surgery department is one of the best and if you made it to MS at JIPMER, and are willing to work 24*7, during their first year, you should definitely go for it!

IIT Palakkad (2019)

First of all, there is no fixed cutoff for MS at any institute. The students are called as per the needs of the concerned professor and the cutoff does not matter. Students are screened through a thorough process including a separate written exam followed by an exam interview.
