Which one should one join for doing an MBA - MDI, NMIMS, SJMSOM (IITB), IIM Shillong, or new IIMs?

Lives in Mumbai, Maharashtra, India

MDI will be a better option for all specializations, except Operations. If you are interested in Operations, IIT Bombay is much better. MDI Gurgaon placements are excellent. Big names such as Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, and BCG have visited the campus placements. The 2022 placement drive had an average CTC of INR 26.65 LPA.

MDI offers the best placement in the finance domain after IIM A, B, C, FMS, and XLRI. JP, HSBC, Nomura, Stanchart, etc. are some of the major recruiters from the finance sector.

MDI placement records for Marketing are good as well. HUL, Coke, Pepsi, and P&G are some significant recruiters from the marketing sector.

IGNOU is best for distance learning MBA. IGNOU MBA course structure is pretty good. You will get to learn the basics first then the main concepts. The study materials are good and make the learning process smooth. IGNOU also has a better reputation.

Symbiosis Pune is also a good option for MBA. You can choose one of these two options based on fee structure and eligibility.

What is the cut off rank to get btech in CSE in MPSTME, NMIMS through NPAT?

Usually, students ranking in the top 300, get CSE, or IT at MPSTME, NMIMS. But this is just a tentative score. There is no such specific cutoff system. NMIMS Cutoff varies each year depending on the availability of seats.

So, try to score a good rank, to be safe. Since most students choose CSE or IT, the required cutoff remains high.

How was your experience studying in NMIMS?

SS
Sheetal Sharma Posted On : May 27th, 2021
BA from the University of Delhi (2019)

As you've not asked about a specific program, I'd like to tell you about my cousin's experience at NMIMS Mumbai where he studied the NMIMS SBM core program.

Pros

  • NMIMS ranks in the top 20 institutes in India as one of the top private institutes.
  • There is no reservation or quota seats.
  • You can appear for the NMAT thrice, but then it's a lot of time wastage.
  • You'll get to spend two years in Mumbai which is the commercial centre of India.
  • Your batchmates will range from myriad fields like medical, judicial, teaching, pharmacy and Even recent graduates. There'll be those with 0 experience and those with 10+ years of experience.
  • Faculty to student ratio is good as well, despite the big batch size.

Cons

  • It's an expensive institute
  • The hostels are insufficient and many SBM MBA students have to reside in apartments near the college.
  • The batch size is adding up each year hence placements might become a war zone in the near future.

NMIMS MBA is good, however, it doesn't depend on where you did your MBA from in the long run. As ultimately your overall performance will be taken into consideration.

What is the actual average salary for NMIMS Mumbai? Is it really worthwhile to do an MBA from NMIMS, considering the huge fees and inflated placement reports?

RM
Rohan Mitra Posted On : January 18th, 2022
studied at SVKM's NMIMS (2019)

One of my friends got into NMIMS through NMAT. According to him, it was not the most sorted choice as their rankings and placement reports are inflated.

  • They show an average package of 16 LPA being offered to 550 students but it is impossible to get that.
  • Usually students receive a 12-13 LPA for core subjects and 9-10 LPA for HR.
  • NMIMS is a popular brand, thus the brand name attracts lots of students in Hyderabad and Bangalore campus. But they are not good enough as generally promoted.
  • IMT, NMIMS, SIBM, XIMB were once one of the top private B-schools . But their standards have degraded recently. Only MDI managed to maintain and move forward.
  • No other B-school increased fees like NMIMS. Its fees are more than XLRI and IIM A, B and C.
  • The building at NMIMS is also not great, according to the fees that they charge.
  • No other college charges its candidates for conducting CDPI or GDPI. Whereas NMIMS students have to pay 1000 rupees.
  • After the release of the results, students have to pay fees of about 9 lakhs in just 1 week.

Spending a huge amount for MBA education is not a great idea. People might consider it an investment, but you have to make an informed decision by also considering the ROI. Therefore, if you are an outstation student consider other colleges than NMIMS.

Does NMIMS select the best NMAT score?

AD
Anuraag Das Posted On : April 26th, 2023
Studied at MBA from NMIMS (2020)

Yes, NMIMS selects the best NMAT score for admission to its various management programs. NMAT (NMIMS Management Aptitude Test) is an entrance exam conducted by GMAC (Graduate Management Admission Council) for admission to various MBA and other management programs offered by NMIMS and other B-Schools in India.

NMIMS considers the candidate's best score out of the multiple attempts made in the NMAT exam for admission. The selection process for admission to NMIMS typically involves the following stages:

  1. NMAT Exam: The first stage is the NMAT exam, which is conducted over a period of 75 days in multiple slots. Candidates can take the exam up to three times, and the best of the three scores is considered for admission.
  2. Shortlisting: Based on the NMAT score, candidates are shortlisted for the next stage of the selection process. The shortlisting criteria may vary based on the program applied for and other factors such as academic background, work experience, etc.
  3. Group Discussion and Personal Interview: Shortlisted candidates are invited for a group discussion and personal interview, which is conducted to evaluate their communication skills, leadership potential, problem-solving abilities, and other relevant skills.
  4. Final Selection: Based on the performance in the NMAT exam, group discussion, and personal interview, the final selection is made for admission to NMIMS.

Therefore, if a candidate takes the NMAT exam multiple times, NMIMS will consider the best score out of the attempts made by the candidate for the purpose of shortlisting and admission.

How honest are the non-IIM MBA colleges (SPJIMR, NMIMS, SIBM, XLRI) when they say their average package is 12-15L?

FG
Falguni Gupta Posted On : April 27th, 2022
MBA Supply Chain Management & Strategy and Management Consulting, S. P. Jain Institute of Management and Research

SPJIMER, SIBM, and XLRI placement reports are pretty accurate. Rather than the typical average/median CTC method,  SPJIMER publishes its placement report in IPRS format. Every figure mentioned in the placement report is true to the 2nd decimal point.

XLRI and SIBM also keep the placement report transparent. SIBM gets its placement audited regularly. As per the 2022 placement highlights, the average CTC for SPJIMER, SIBM, and XLRI were INR 23.6 LPA, INR 23.06 LPA, and INR 30.73 LPA respectively.

NMIMS inflates the report. The numbers are quite high.
