Which is better, Amrita (Coimbatore) CSE or SSN CSE?

TR
Tanya Rao Posted On : June 28th, 2021
B.E. Computer Science and Engineering, Sri Sivasubramaniya Nadar College of Engineering

Amrita University is a deemed university whereas SSN is an autonomous institute in Chennai, affiliated with Anna University. I have friends in both universities and according to their first-hand experience, Amrita has a slight edge over SSN. While both colleges offer good quality education, here are some reasons why you should prefer Amrita University.

  • Amrita University is one of the country’s top deemed Universities. It has a syllabus and curriculum which is on par with IITs and NITs.
  • Especially if you want to pursue CSE, consider studying at Amrita University’s Amritapuri campus. There you can grab some great opportunities for CSE if you are willing to work hard.
  • You will also get a lot of research activities going on at Amrita University that might help you with higher studies if you are planning to.

Overall, both the colleges are great in terms of education and facilities. However, Amrita University is the best choice when it comes to TNEA colleges except for Anna University, Guindy. At the end of the day, all that matters is your hard work and passion for the subject.

Is SSN College Chennai a good engineering college?

C
CelestialCartel Posted On : February 17th, 2026

PLEASE READ THIS

Honestly, I wouldn't suggest joining SSN College. Don't get swayed by the big campus, trees, and fountains; it can be misleading. I regret choosing this college based on recommendations from people who weren't even part of it. I'm currently a 3rd-year EEE student here, so I have some insights that others might not deny.

The teaching staff mostly have degrees just for the sake of it and often lack proper teaching skills. We frequently had to turn to our seniors for help with subjects, which is fine, but you need to be cautious with your behavior to avoid any form of ragging. There are a few good teachers, but overall, you might find better teaching elsewhere.

Lab equipment, especially in the computer labs, often malfunctions, and it can take a long time to get fixed. This makes it hard for students to grasp concepts, and at those times, we are left with just books to memorize.

Some faculty members discreetly provide students with exam questions from Anna University, making it easy to pass exams, but this neglects actual learning. If your goal is just to get a degree, SSN might work for you. However, if you aim to become a competent engineer, you should consider other colleges.

While I’ve heard from graduated seniors that placements are decent, the placement fees are hefty. It might take you up to five years to recover from the financial strain, even with a good job. If your family is financially comfortable, then it might not be an issue for you.

SSN used to have a strong reputation before 2010, but it's not the same now. People often think it’s still great due to the large campus and placement opportunities, but the quality of education and lab facilities has declined significantly. Many rely on outdated reviews or opinions from those who aren’t aware of the current situation.

Moreover, the technology is outdated. Alumni have mentioned struggling in IT jobs because SSN doesn’t keep up with new programming languages, software, and industrial tools. For example, some computers still run an old version of Windows 10, and although Python is introduced in the first year, it’s not effectively integrated in later years. If you're considering ECE, CSE, or IT, there are certainly better options.

To sum up, if you’re looking to become a skilled engineer without unnecessary struggles, SSN might not be the right choice. People often judge a college by its appearance and placement stats, thinking SSN is as good as it was pre-2010.

However, if money isn't a concern and you're planning to join your family business or enter fields where a degree is just a formality, SSN could be suitable for you. In that case, go for it.

Thanks for reading.

P.S. Some reviews online might show SSN in a positive light. Some of these might be valid but outdated, while others could be from uninformed parents or students who are there just to have fun rather than study.

How can I get into SSN College of Engineering? What is the admission process? Also what are your thoughts on SNU?

G
GoldenGnosis Posted On : February 15th, 2026

If you're from outside Tamil Nadu, you'll need to take a management test and aim to score above 90 out of 100. After that, there's a general interview. They typically focus on your extracurricular activities, sports involvement, and how diverse your background is.

For your school marks, it's good to have at least 95% in PCM if you're in State or CBSE boards and 90% if you're in ICSE. As for SNU, it's managed by the same team and located on the same campus, so you can expect a solid academic atmosphere.

SSN College of Engineering in Chennai is a solid choice for Computer Science and Engineering students. The curriculum is well-structured and covers essential programming languages and concepts like AI and data science, which are vital for the current job market. The placements are impressive, with many students securing offers from top companies like Amazon and Google, and the highest package can reach up to 25 lakhs.

Living costs can be manageable; the hostel fees are around 75,000 to 140,000 per year depending on the type of accommodation, and the overall living expenses can be around 1.5 to 2.5 lakhs per annum including food and other costs. Overall, it offers a good blend of academics and campus life.

How is life at SSN College of engineering?

C
CobaltConjurer Posted On : February 13th, 2026

Life at SSN College of Engineering has been quite an experience for me. I'm studying Mechanical Engineering, and the faculty here are really knowledgeable, with most of them holding PhDs. The curriculum is solid, and while we have internal exams every month, it’s manageable if you keep up with your studies.

The campus life is vibrant, especially with events like the annual fest called INSTINCTS and the tech fest INVENTION. There’s a good mix of academics and extracurriculars, and I feel like I'm getting a well-rounded education. The hostel facilities are decent too, although the food could be better. Overall, it's a good place to learn and grow.
