IIIT Sonepat: Which one should I choose, NIT Kurukshetra or NIT Bhopal or IIIT Allahabad for an M.Tech in CSE?

AA
Aarti Ahuja Posted On : September 2nd, 2023

I will never recommend you to choose NIT Kurukshetra because the administration is very disappointing and the entire system is in dilapidated condition. The CSE branch specifically is losing its charm. The official records claim some very good professors but the reality is most of them aren’t interested in teaching.

The result is declared after 4 months and the students were given backs by a margin of 1/4 of a mark. The duration of exams is long, giving no time for holidays. The Institute does not encourage any kind of educational tours or summer training. Research work is not promoted in any form. The only reason NIT Kurukshetra is still here is because of the hard work of students who get good packages.

Should I pursue IT at PICT or CSE at IIIT-Pune (Chakan)?

AK
Anubhav Kumar Posted On : March 23rd, 2021
B.Tech from Indian Institute of Information Technology, Pune (2020)

I have a friend at IIIT Pune. I only heard good things about the institute from him. Here are some facts about IT at PICT and CSE at IIIT-Pune, which may help you to decide.

Teachers:

  • All of the faculties of IIIT-Pune are Ph.D. holders from institutes like IIT KGP, NITs, and foreign universities.
  • Most of the faculties of PICT are M.Tech or still pursuing their PhDs.

Crowd:

  • Instead of going home during vacations, students attend Android and Web development workshops.
  • Faculties encourage students to take up projects and internships from the first semester.

Degree:

  • Students get B.Tech in IIIT-Pune as compared to a B.E. at PICT.
  • IIIT-Pune's curriculum doesn't include subjects like Civil, Engineering Drawing, Mechanics, Mechanical, Chemistry which are of no use in the course of CSE.

Institute of National Importance:

  • IIIT-Pune is like all the IITs, NITs, IIITs which is an Institute of National Importance( INI) which leads to a lot of Government funds and monetary support.
  • Students who did their 12th from the MP board or others can receive a full tuition fee waiver for 4 years of their B. Tech since IIIT Pune is an INI.

Sports and Clubs:

  • Any student can start a club of their own if they have a passion for something at IIIT-Pune.
  • IIIT- Pune bagged 5 medals in IIT- BHU’s Annual Sports Fest Spardha and continues to receive honors in other sports events as well.

Attendance and Holidays:

  • PICT has minimum attendance criteria of 75% and PICT imposes an 80% attendance.
  • PICT has 9 days winter break and 15 days summer break, so if you are not a local then you will not get to see much of your family.
  • At IIIT-Pune students get 1 month of Winter Break and about 2.5 months of Summer Break.

Exposure and Brand:

  • IIIT-Pune students usually go for two industrial visits to Infosys and Tech Mahindra.
  • IIIT is a brand as there are a total of 23 IIITs in India and are recognized throughout the country and overseas.
  • IIIT-Pune also has inter-IIT sports and technical fests every year where all the IIITs across the country take part.

Students think that PICT is old so it’s better and yes it’s been around for 20 years since PICT’s inception and it has developed whereas IIIT-Pune is just 2 years old and has the potential for tremendous growth.

Which engineering college is best for a CSE in Rajasthan: Jaipur National University, Arya College or Poornima University?

SK
Saira Khandelwal Posted On : January 12th, 2022
studied at University of Delhi (2018)

According to the reviews online, among the mentioned three colleges, it is recommended that you go for Poornima University (PU).

Here are some things about PU that makes it better than the others:

  • They have an updated academic curriculum, which follows up with the recent industry trends.
  • Their examination structure is also modified to match recent trends.
  • Their on-campus placements are really good.
  • Students get job offers from reputed companies like HP, Accenture, Wipro, HCL, etc.
  • A student with an overall good academic record gets offered a salary package of 9-10 LPA.
  • Usually the average salary package offered is 5-6 LPA.
  • Their education has a practical approach.
  • Seminars, industry visits, etc. also are conducted.
  • The facilities and amenities  are well adequate for an educational institution.

PU is considered to be one of the best private universities of Northern India. The placement statistics at the university are much better than most of the colleges and universities in the city. So therefore, between Arya, JNU, and Poornima, PU will be the better choice.

What should I choose, VJTI for Computer Science or BITS Goa for Chemical?

RS
Rohan Sewaney Posted On : May 13th, 2024
VJTI pass out

My friend also faced the dilemma of choosing between VJTI and BITS Goa. He ended up choosing VJTI because of the following reasons.

  • VJTI offers a renowned CS curriculum with a strong focus on practical learning.
  • BITS Goa may have a higher average salary during placement, but placements for CS at VJTI are also pretty solid. A total of 401 BTech students have been placed till now in 2024. The highest package was secured by a BTech Computer Science student which stood at INR 57 LPA with the average package being INR 20 LPA.
  • VJTI has strong industry connections and easily offers students research and internship opportunities in top firms.
  • BITS Goa also offer most of such programs in dual degree format which may be uncomfortable for some students.
  • Mumbai being a tech hub can also be beneficial as VJTI CS students are to an ecosystem of networking opportunities and jobs.

Which one is good, CSE from IIIT Kottayam or IT from IIIT Bhopal? I am from Delhi and also knowing that IIIT Kottayam will have permanent campus.

SG
Shivani Grover Posted On : March 16th, 2021
B.Tech Computer Science Engineering, Indian Institute Of Information Technology Bhopal (2021)

A side by side comparison of both the colleges might help you get a clear view on what to expect once you get there:

  • Curriculum: The curriculum mentor of IIIT Kottayam is IIIT Hyderabad which is one of the top-notch institutes for CSE in India. On the other hand, the curriculum mentor of IIIT Bhopal is MANIT Bhopal which doesn’t match the level of IIIT Hyderabad.
  • Closing rank: In 2019, the closing rank for IIIT Bhopal IT was around 41K in the special round. While for IIIT Kottayam CSE, the closing rank was almost 40K at the end of special round-II. You can check the opening and closing ranks for both the colleges in the year 2019 below:

Institutes

Round 1

Round 2

IIIT Kottayam

19863-37501

37712-39850

IIIT Bhopal

19220-37277

37825-40622

  • Placements: In 2019, the first placement was held where good companies came forward for recruitment. Some of them wereNISSAN, L&T, Reliance (JIO), etc. NISSAN offered packages starting from 6 Lakh to 10 Lakh.
  • Coding culture: Coding culture at IIIT Kottayam is at par with old IIIT’s like IIIT Allahabad, Gwalior, and good NITs. More than 70% of students clearing the starting round of CODE JAM conducted by Google
  • Campus: While IIIT Bhopal campus construction is yet to be started IIIT Kottayam campus is almost ready.

From the above comparison, it’s pretty clear that IIIT Kotayyam has an edge over IIIT Bhopal. However, do consider your pool of interest because at the end your skills and hard work matters the most for shaping your future!

What is better, IT in VSSUT Burla or in CET BBSR?

KS
Kalyan Sahu Posted On : October 12th, 2023
Lives in Bhubaneshwar

VSSUT and CET are both autonomous universities. Here are some insights on pursuing B.Tech IT at these two-

VSSUT is much older. This makes it a bigger brand. But in terms of location, CET is a clear winner. VSSUT is located in the small town of Burla.

Burla has no direct air connectivity, and the fastest mode of transport is a 6 hour train journey from Bhubaneswar. Thus, top recruiters hesitate to visit the campus for placements. But the placement stats are good. The students miss out on competitive events and internship opportunities because of the distance from Bhubaneswar.

CET is the only government institute in Bhubaneswar other than IIIT. More recruiters visit its campus during placement season. Samsung, Dell and Toshiba are some of the top companies that visit the CET campus.

In terms of academics, VSSUT offers a flexible curriculum. This allows IT students to opt for a few advanced subjects. CET on the other hand, has a rigid course curriculum. In any case, make sure to polish your coding skills for a successful career in IT.

To conclude, pursue your B.Tech IT from the institution that best suits your personal preferences.

What is difference between CSE and csd coures at IIIT Delhi?

KM
Krishna Mishra Posted On : April 30th, 2026

CSE and CSD at IIIT Delhi are more different than most people think — they're not just the same course with a design elective thrown in.

CSE (Computer Science and Engineering): pure CS program, admission purely through JEE Main/JAC Delhi rank. standard 4-year B.Tech.

CSD (Computer Science and Design):

  • it's a hybrid program integrating CS with Design/HCI (Human-Computer Interaction) — visual design, UX, multimedia, graphics alongside core CS
  • admission is different from CSE — uses both JEE rank AND class 12 percentage in criteria. this allows some students who scored well in 12th but couldn't get a high enough JEE rank to access IIIT Delhi
  • from 3rd year, CSD students do extra design projects every semester on top of regular coursework — the workload is higher
  • placements are similar to CSE (~95%+), slightly lower avg package historically but improving

key thing most answers get wrong — CSD is NOT a dual degree in the traditional sense. it's a 4-year B.Tech in CSD, not CSE + MS. the degrees awarded are different.

verdict: if you want pure software career — CSE is simpler and cleaner. if you're genuinely interested in design + tech (UX, product design, graphics) — CSD is genuinely unique and worth it. don't take CSD just to get into IIIT Delhi if you hate design.

Is it worth leaving KGMU seat for AMU seat of an MBBS taking in consideration the UP bond and internal PG reservation?

SD
Sagar Dikshit Posted On : September 25th, 2023
lives in Lucknow

You are right in considering the UP bond and internal PG reservation while making your choice.

  • Internal Reservation- JNMC offers 50% internal PG quota, which is completely free of caste based reservation. This is beneficial if you plan to pursue PG after your graduation. Also, you’ll have better chances of getting clinical seats here at around 23k AIR.
  • Rural Bond- Unlike KGMU, JNMC doesn’t come under the two year rural bond. This is a big relief in itself.
  • Location- Location wise though, Lucknow is far more developed than Aligarh.

You may choose JNMC (AMU) over any of these top colleges of UP- KGMU, RMLIMS, GSVM, MLN and LLRM. The reason being, as already mentioned by you.

Is it valuable doing MA after Bsc from IGNOU?

RM
Renuka Mahesh Posted On : November 3rd, 2022
MTM from Indira Gandhi National Open University (Graduated 2017)

No, it’s not valuable for someone to go for an MA after graduating from science. Unless you have a specific target or reason behind pursuing PG in arts it’s not recommended at all.

The course you are opting for should have a direct connection with the industry you are planning to enter. Focus on your goal and pursue the program related to that specific field.

People with no specific goals regarding the industry or profession are much more likely to come across such questions. Redefine and recognise your goals and then if it still suits you best, go for PG in arts.
