Why are there only 39 seats in the first batch of IT with specialisation in Business Informatics in IIIT Allahabad?
The first batch of B.Tech IT business informatics was recently introduced in 2019. The program has been designed by adding some special features along with core B. Tech curriculum which is usually offered at IIIT-A. With the aim of giving the best of all the resources, IIIT-A authorities decided to limit the number of seats for first batch students. Based upon the demand and other criteria, there is a high chance of modification of the seat matrix in the future.
Some features which are compulsory for students pursuing B.Tech in business informatics at IIIT-A are mandatory French/German language course, compulsory credit based summer internships, Harvard business case study based approach in pedagogy which requires high-quality resources. So limiting the number of seats to give quality education and focusing on each of their students is IIIT-A's main goal now.
Round -1 Cutoff:
- You have to clear JEE Main with a ranking of around 3097 to get into B.Tech business informatics in the first round.
- Closing rank trends from the past few years have been around 4651 for the general category.

First batch students are yet to face placements in 2022, the course seems very promising and opportunities are equal to that of the B.Tech IT branch.
How is EC in IIIT Allahabad?
ECE is a great branch and has a lot of research scope as well. IIIT- Allahabad is a great college with awesome infrastructure, amazing placements, and a growing reputation. Despite all this, some people say that ECE in IIIT- Allahabad is not up to the mark or appreciable.
Most of the students join IIIT Allahabad keeping in mind their coding culture. If you have an aptness for programming and want to pursue a career in the IT industry, go for IIIT Allahabad. People who have an interest in CSE/IT but fail to get a seat in a good engineering college join ECE in IIIT Allahabad just to get an IT-like atmosphere.
Not many students who come to IIIT Allahabad are interested in the core fields or the core ECE material. But this doesn’t indicate ECE here to be bad or not up to the mark. The ones who work hard in the core fields reach different levels of heights in their academic career. They have great courses with the core subjects right from the first semester. The robotics lab and club are very well established and have a great reputation.
Talking about labs, IIIT Allahabad is known to have one of the best class labs in the country with all the required aid and mechanisms. The core subjects start from the first semester itself. So, you don’t need to study physics, chemistry, etc. The teachers are very nice and well educated. They are really very helpful, co-operative and approachable.
The placement opportunities are great here, particularly in the IT sector. There is no point comparing EC with IT. IT/CSE placements are inferior in any college in India. The only disadvantage of joining ECE in IIIT Allahabad would be the peer group not taking interest in the core stuff. But if you are more concerned about yourself, it won’t matter much.
Which one will be better, MNNIT Allahabad or IIIT Allahabad for an M.Tech in CSE?
Both IIIT Allahabad and MNNIT Allahabad are excellent institutes, providing sufficient placements in the circuital branches of engineering. But, IIIT Allahabad has slight advantages over the other, considering certain parameters in branches, which are discussed below in the following points.
- MNNIT Allahabad and IIIT Allahabad are two incomparable institutes, having decent placement records each. Both the institutes have an excellent self-study culture among students for their own betterment.
- IIIT is totally devoted to IT and Electronics branches only, it has a slight advantage in placement and opportunities over the other.
- IIIT Allahabad is a much newer institute, being established in the year 2000. Even, many faculties of IIIT Allahabad are pass-out students of MNNIT Allahabad.
- Both IIIT and MNNIT have an excellent placement record for M.Tech branches.
- The coding culture of IIIT Allahabad is famous all over India, which is the second-best in the country after IIIT Hyderabad. If you are interested in coding and open-source development should definitely choose IIIT Allahabad over MNNIT. Students who have an interest in other fields can choose MNNIT.
- Students who are in doubt about their coding capabilities can visit some notable websites for practice and tests in competitive coding. If the student is good at it, he/she should surely come to IIIT Allahabad and can even expect a package of about 20 LPA after the degree.
For M.Tech in CSE or IT, IIIT Allahabad is a better choice, provided the coding culture and placements in those branches at IIIT.
I think I have a chance for CSE for NIT Durgapur, IIEST Shibpur, BIT Mesra, and IT in IIIT Allahabad. My priority is good faculty, and personal development rather than placements.

IIIT Allahabad has good placement figures, and all the major companies visit its campus each year. Not only that, the college has a strong alumni network and brand name.
Try to tell you mom that the ‘IIT’ tag does not hold much value for 3rd gen. IITs. These colleges have just sprouted, and it will take some time for them to create a strong presence.

The average package for IT is more than 24 LPA, and the median package is more than 21 LPA. You’ll receive top coding culture and senior mentoring at IIITA, even better than some well known IITs.
IIIT Allahabad is better than top NITs and 2nd gen. IITs. Its placements are even better than IIT Gandhinagar. Brand name matters, but other factors need to be checked as well. According to me, IIIT Allahabad is the best college for those who successfully clear JEE Mains.
Which stream is better in iiit allahabad for b.tech?
IIIT Allahabad is well known for its IT course. The coding environment is great there. Even if you don’t know how to code, you can easily learn during your course. You will have access to good resources and facilities. The average CTC offered to IT students is around INR 13-15 LPA.
Other than IT, there is also ECE. if you are interested in circuital function, you can opt for this course. The average CTC offered for ECE is around INR 12.4 LPA.
