To get admission to IIT Kharagpur for Law, first you must meet the eligibility criteria of the institution. To be eligible for the LLB program, you must:

• Score minimum 60% marks, or a CGPA of 6.5 in 10 point scale, in Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering / Technology / Medicine or equivalent.

The life as a law student at IIT Kharagpur is quite fulfilling. Although our schedule is pretty hectic and our routine is jam packed with semesters, exams, presentations and seminars, the end of the semesters are pretty much free. As a student of IIT Kharagpur, we get to enjoy all sorts of activities in various clubs and societies like Encore, Quiz Club, Debating Society, Druheen, Spectra, etc. We also enjoy various sports at the campus like football, cricket, tennis, etc. We also participate in events hosted by IIT Kharagpur. The biggest campus cultural fest in India 'Spring Fest’, and the biggest techno-management fest ‘Kshitij’, are just two of the annual fests and activities held at IIT Kharagpur.

Overall, life as a law student is quite good at IIT Kharagpur.

The answer highly depends on the NLU in question. If you are getting an admission into an NLU that is ranked lower to IIT Kharagpur, I would recommend you choose the latter. 

Moreover, IIT Kharagpur’s LLB is designed to provide knowledge regarding Intellectual Property Rights. On the other hand, NLUs offer a general BA LLB/LLB program. 

I am a student at the law department of IIT Kharagpur, which is known as the ‘Rajiv Gandhi School of Intellectual Property Law’. The department offers an LLB Honours in Intellectual Property Rights, an LLM, and a Doctoral Program in Law. 

The department students receive job training through workshops, clinical legal education, and courtroom exercises. We also have a wide selection of electives and a variety of subjects. The department alumni currently hold prominent positions in business, law companies, academia, and other legal institutions. Many alumni have successfully launched their own legal firms as well.

The placements at our department are also good. During the 2023 placements, the median package offered to LLB graduates was INR 9 LPA, and the median package of LLM graduates was INR 12 LPA at IIT Kharagpur.

The admission process 2024 to IIT Kharagpur’s LLB and LLM programs has concluded. The academic session commenced on July 22, 2024. 

VGSoM (IIT Kharagpur) conducts its MBA admissions in two phases-

1. First, candidates are shortlisted for the Personal Interview round. The applicants are shortlisted for PI based on their CAT scores, past academic performance, work experience and professional qualification. Gender diversity factor benefits female candidates, providing them with certain extra points.
2. The final selection of the candidates is then done on all the factors listed above, with the inclusion of their PI scores.

CSE offers the best placements out of all the engineering branches, and it has greater career opportunities. This is the reason why it is a highly sought after branch at not just IIT Kharagpur, but most of the engineering colleges in India.

There are 21 halls or residences (hostels) at IIT Kharagpur out of which 16 are for boys and 5 are allocated for girls. One can get a single room or shared room of 2, 3 or 4 students. The allocation is done on a random basis at the time of admission.

• Each hostel student is provided with a bed, study table, chair. The rooms contain working fans and LED light. The hostels have 24-hour internet connectivity. There is a good amount of space in the hostel rooms.
• The hostels have a common room for indoor games like table tennis, billiards, carrom, etc.
• The food in our mess is average, but the taste differs for each hostel’s mess. Some halls have a good mess while some have an average mess.
• The hostel fee is INR 30,000 per year, and the registration takes place during the students’ first visit to the campus.

Overall, IIT KGP offers decent hostel facilities, and you’ll have a good time at the campus. 

IIT Kharagpur Offers a Joint M.Tech-PhD program. The admission for this course is based on GATE score. After admission into this program, the students with 8 CGPA or above in first year can take a written test and/or interview for enrolment into PhD. Those who do not qualify for PhD can still complete their 2 year M.Tech program at IIT KGP.

• Candidates need a BE/ BTech degree with a minimum of 60% aggregate (55% for SC/ST/PwD). 
• Candidates must secure a valid GATE score relevant to their qualifying discipline. In case of absence of a specific GATE paper for their specialisation, XE/XL/XH papers will be considered for selection.
• Candidates who have completed their B.Tech from an IIT with more than 8 CGPA on a 10 point scale can apply for admission without taking the GATE exam.

Eligibility Criteria for LLB at IIT Kharagpur:

• There should be no backlogs in Graduation.? 
• The candidates must complete their graduation from a UGC recognized institution. AICTE, NAAC, NBA, BCI, MCI, DCI, PCI, etc.? must also have recognized that institution.
• Their bachelor's must be in Technological Engineering, Technology, Healthcare or an equivalent stream. They must have attained first class in bachelor's.

• A first-class master's degree in science or medicine, or an equivalent qualification.

• A first-class MBA in any of the already mentioned streams.? 
• If the bachelor's degree does not state "First Class," a minimum of 60% or a cumulative GPA of 6.5 will be required. 

Eligibility Criteria for IIT Kharagpur’s LLM:? 

• A Bachelor's in law from any UGC and BCI-recognized University in India. 
• An Integrated LLB degree (5 years) or a 3-year LLB Graduation Program. Both of them are equally valid.? 
• With the 3-year LLB program, you must also have a graduate degree in Arts, Science, or Commerce. Otherwise, your admission claim will be rejected.?
• Those who have completed LLB (Hons) from IIT KGP in 2023 with an 8.5 or more CGPA can seek admission without the entrance.
