How many marks do I need to get in the Mains for aerospace engineering at PEC?

AS
Aakanksha Singh Posted On : May 5th, 2021
B.Tech from Punjab Engineering College, Chandigarh (2019)

If you are an out-of-state aspirant, your JEE Main ranking must be around the opening and closing range of 2936 - 12187. If you belong to the home state then your rank must fall under 14665 - 31620. To fall under this range you must score around 150 marks.

If you are interested in Aerospace Engineering irrespective of the college, then you must consider IIST Thiruvananthapuram too. It offers aerospace engineering as its flagship course for which you must aim for around 4K rank in JEE Main by scoring 260+

PEC is still an amazing option for AE. If you score 150-200 in JEE Main, your seat will be almost sorted at PEC in their first round of counseling.

Which is better, UPES Dehradun or PEC Chandigarh?

AS
Ankita Sinha Posted On : July 9th, 2021
MBA HRM, DBS (2018)

Both UPES Dehradun and PEC Chandigarh are reputed institutes. I have few friends from both institutes and based on the reviews I got from them, I will say UPES is a better choice.

  • The college has got great infrastructure and very experienced and trained faculty members. They also have a very good placement record every year.
  • In this college, you will find various kinds of extracurricular activities which will help you in developing your leadership and communication skills.
  • This college also has collaborations with international universities and they conduct varieties of students exchange programs.
  • The college conducts various workshops and seminars. They also have personality development classes that will train you for placement purposes.
  • According to the recent placement trends, the placement average for the institute is 90%. The top recruiters of this college are Accenture, Nestle, L&T, Microsoft, Google, Ashok Leyland, Cairn, and Wipro. In the last placement drive, the highest and average CTC offered at the institute were 45 LPA and 6.5 LPA.

Given the choice, I will suggest that you choose UPES Dehradun. If you want more details regarding the institutes, you can visit their official website.

Should I join metallurgy at PEC chandigarh though I have interest in CSE or should I drop an year to make it to IITS/NITS/BITS?

If you are interested in CSE and have the confidence that you will be able to get IITs/NITs/BITS, you can take a drop year. But this option has its risks. PEC Chandigarh offers branch sliding options. Although the cutoff requirement is high for CSE, it's certainly doable with hard work. This way you won’t have to worry about a drop year.

With marks 116 in JEE mains & 92.8% in CBSE +2, can I get admission in PEC Chandigarh in computer science or ECE?

For admission in PEC, you at least need to have 75% in your intermediate exams and cleared the JEE Main cut-off for the institute.

The following table shows the JEE Main Round 1 cut-offs for PEC in 2020:

Category

Sub-Category

B.Tech CSE

B.Tech ECE

General

OS*

199-6404

6871-13169

HS*

1438-10654

11011-19152

SC

OS

990-2483

3454-4530

HS

1531-3345

4015-8676

ST

OS

879-1256

1457-2545

General PwD

OS

143-153

1164-1164

HS

196-258

539-939

*Here, 'other state' is OS, and 'home state' is HS.

Seeing the cut-off rank, you might not get PEC Chandigarh at your mentioned profile.

  • With 92.8% in 10+2, you have cleared one basic eligibility for the institute.
  • Another eligibility is clearing JEE Mains cut-off for PEC. At the mentioned score of 116 in JEE Main, your rank will be approximately around 55000. This rank cannot get a seat in any of the 6 rounds.

If you are desperate to join this year, then you can search for CSE/ECE branch other institutes, as per your JEE rank. But, if you can have time in your hands, you can give another attempt in JEE Mains.

Which is better, PEC Chandigarh mechanical or MNIT Jaipur chemical?

RS
Riddhi Sarkar Posted On : July 7th, 2021
Studied at MNIT Jaipur (2019)

There are many things to consider while choosing a college such as placements, location, branch, choice, your expectations after 4 years of engineering life, etc.

If you have a liking for a particular branch then go to that college all things considered. Being a student of MNIT myself, I can say that, if you are only concerned about placements then MNIT Jaipur will prove to be a better choice.

The following data comparing the placements at both institutes will hopefully give you better clarity.

Categories

Mechanical at PEC Chandigarh

Chemical at MNIT Jaipur

Course Fee

6.39 lakh

6.56 lakh

Highest CTC

15 LPA

17 LPA

Average CTC

6.5 LPA

8-9 LPA

Recruiting Companies

Tata, JP Morgan, Amazon, MySQL, etc.

Hindustan Unilever, GlaxoSmithKline, Tata Chemicals, Carron Oil, etc.

However, if you are thinking of branch change after entering the college then MNIT Jaipur does not provide that option while PEC Chandigarh offers that option. So choose one according to what matters more to you.

Which is better, PEC Chandigarh or VIT Vellore?

RG
Ritika Ghosh Posted On : January 12th, 2021
B.Tech in Mechanical Engineering, Punjab Engineering College, Chandigarh, (2020)

Both institutes are considered to be reputed engineering colleges. Though studying at PEC Chandigarh I realized it will be a better option. Following are the facts which make it better than the other institutes -

Placements (Winning Institute- PEC Chandigarh)

  • PEC has a progressive atmosphere for core branches like mechanical. The faculties are cooperative and help in placement training and creative experimental works.
  • Most of the tech giants including Google, Amazon, Adobe, Alstom, Volvo, Fiat, L&T, Indian Oil, etc. visit PEC for campus recruitment.
  • Highest CTC up to 60 LPA is offered to CS, IT, and ECE students.

The following table shows a brief overview of the two institutes.

Particulars

PEC Chandigarh

VIT Vellore

Median Salary (CSE)

?7 Lakh

? 5.5 Lakh

Total Fees (B.Tech)

?4.6 Lakh

?7.83 Lakh

Admission Cut off Rank (CSE)

8313(JEE Main)

7000 (VITEEE)

The city of Chandigarh has a lot to offer. There might be a few problems regarding food and accomodation in Vellore for non local students. Other than that, PEC provides necessary facilities including an excellent library, workshops, sports grounds and much more.

PEC has moderate fees, compared to VIT, as being an institute of national importance. PEC has a better student culture, with no management quota. Also, has a far better employee reputation throughout the years.
