I’m really confused in choosing one between Computer Science at IIT Hyderabad and Mechanical at IIT Madras. May I know which one is a better option ?

SD

Studies at IIT Madras

Both IIT Hyderabad and IIT Madras are well-recognized institutions in India. However, opting for Computer Science at IIT Hyderabad or Mechanical at IIT Madras completely depends on your choice, interest, and career goals.

  • According to me, opting for Mechanical from IIT Madras is a better choice as IIT Madras is one of the oldest IITs in India and it holds 1st rank in Engineering in the NIRF ranking.
  • IIT Madras offers 4 years of Mechanical Engineering courses to students.
  • The cost fees for four years including the tuition fees, hostel fees, and one-time fees is around INR 11.17 Lakhs.
  • IIT Madras exceptionally good placement offers to the students with the highest package being INR 66 LPA, the median package being INR 17 LPA and the lowest being INR 7 LPA.
  • For Computer Science at IIT Hyderabad, the highest package is INR 44 LPA and the lowest package is around INR 4.5 LPA.

Which is better for mechanical engineering in Pune: VIIT, VIT, or MIT?

AD
Aditi Deshpande Posted On : August 18th, 2023
Lives in Pune,Maharashtra

I have many friends pursuing Mechanical Engineering in Pune from institutes like CIIT, VIT or MIT. Here is a comparative analysis of the two based on some common aspects

  1. Infrastructure: Infrastructure-wise, MIT is way ahead of VIIT and VIT. It has better campus facilities and a more diverse curriculum than other institutes. VIIT also has a decent infrastructure followed by VIT.
  2. Academics : All the aforementioned institutes have a well-updated curriculum mainly because they are autonomous. The faculty pool in general is of similar quality and you will have to depend on self-study more or less everywhere you go.
  3. Diversity : MIT has a more diverse student pool and you will get to interact with people coming from different states. Based on the crowd diversity, the preference order would be MIT> VIT> VIIT
  4. Practical exposure : VIT offers the best practical exposure because its Mechanical Engineering program is the oldest among the aforementioned institutes. VIIT and MIT ME branch is new so the exposure offered is very limited. In fact, these students are taken to VIT for exposure.
  5. Placements: VIIT and MIT have a similar average package of around INR 7 LPA while VIT had a lower average package of around INR 4.77 LPA.

The final decision will depend on your future prospects and inclinations.

What is the average package of the mechanical branch in the Heritage Institute of Technology?

AR
Abhilasha Roy Posted On : September 17th, 2021
B.Tech Mechanical Engineering ,Heritage Institute of Technology,Kolkata (2021)

The average package that gets offered at Heritage Institute of Technology varies from batch to batch with the minimum to a maximum salary ranging in between INR 2.5 Lakhs per annum to around INR 10 Lakhs per annum. The average salary package is roughly around INR 3–4 Lakhs per annum. Some of the major recruiters for Mechanical Engineering at HIT were HPL, Linde India, Infosys, Wipro, etc.

The package you are offered mostly depends on how you create your profile, which includes your grades, internships, and projects. I am confident that you will receive a decent payout after considering all of these factors at the end of the four years of your program.

Is studying mechanical engineering at IGIT, Sarang good?

SB
Sunayana Bose Posted On : March 20th, 2021
Studied at Indira Gandhi Institute of Technology, Sarang

One of my friends graduated from IGIT this year. Here are a few things that I got to know about the Mechanical branch at IGIT.

Placements:

According to the statistics the placement sector is down in almost all colleges of Odisha. Seeing on the placement statistics of past years hardly a core company came for placement in IGIT.

  • Companies like Vedanta, Jindal, and Bhushan did come for the core sector but the probability of students getting selected is not up to the mark.
  • Most mechanical engineers join TCS or Tech Mahindra in IT. Very few of the students get placed in core companies like Vedanta, Jindal, or Bhushan.

This same situation can be seen in colleges like VSSUT and CET too. But they arrange some off-campus for mechanical students. Going in other campus placement is good in CET followed by VSSUT than IGIT. But that doesn’t make a big difference. Placement is almost the same in these colleges for core companies.

About Mechanical Branch:

The mechanical branch is one of the most strict branches of the institute.

  • It has well-equipped labs or workshops and this is something mechanical engineers brag about.
  • IGIT has more reputed and respected professors in mechanical engineering as compared to other colleges.

The quality of education is average.

It will be better if you opt for CET followed by VSSUT and then IGIT. CET/VSSUT does call mass recruiters as compared to IGIT. IT jobs play the role of saviors since the number of core jobs is quite less. and are not likely to get a boost in near future.

Which is better for a BTech in mechanical engineering, Chandigarh University or UIET KUK?

SM
Sushmita Mondal Posted On : January 12th, 2021
B.Tech in CSE from CGC Landran (2019)

Chandigarh University (CU), the youngest university to be ranked by NIRF. It is placed at 84th in the NIRF ranking of 2020 for engineering institutes. The university has also got NAAC A+ accreditation, which gives it international recognition.

Studying at CU as one of its students has its own perks and benefits. Students and teachers from not only CU but other universities also know the value of a CU degree in your resume.

Without a doubt, CU is far better than UIET KUK for the B.E. Mechanical Engineering course. The brand name of CU is enough to add feathers to your resume. The best part about CU is that it is an entirely student-oriented university.

A few perks of CU which gives it an upper hand over UIET KUK are listed below:

  1. CU is parallel with technology. They have advanced laboratories even for the mechanical students.
  2. CU inculcates practical learning in students by giving them good industrial exposure. For example, the industrial visit to the Gurugram plant which is Asia’s biggest manufacturing plant of Maruti Suzuki.
  3. Top companies like Samsung, Wipro, Godrej, Tafe, Amazon, etc. frequently recruit students from CU.
  4. CU prepares students for the competition by organizing technical events and allowing students to participate in the various events or fests to enhance their extra-curricular activities, skill-sets, and knowledge. It also organises expert lectures from prominent personalities and conducts events for different social-causes.
  5. In CU, you will find yourself learning from the best professors of the university.
  6. CU also has a well-equipped library with all genres of books.
  7. The whole campus is WIFI enabled.

The Mechanical Engineering (ME) from CU is the most promising program to take. However, a disadvantage of CU is the fee structure. The fees for the BE in Mechanical Engineering is Rs.6.4 Lakh and the fees for B.Tech in Mechanical Engineering in UIET KUK is Rs. 4.2 Lakh. The quality of education is unbeatable in CU. They provide a better engineering education than UIET KUK.
