Is NITIE Mumbai a good option for a female student with a 65 aggregate in a B.E.?

PP
Priyank Patil Posted On : August 16th, 2021
PGDIM from National Institute of Industrial Engineering (2019)

As one of my friends studied at NITIE Mumbai, I can say that the percentage of female students is lower than the male students. Well, the scenario is the same in almost all the Business Schools.

  • Be it the top 15 Business schools, among the total strength of 240, the female students are around 20-25 only.
  • Well, sometimes there has been a case where female students, being less in number, have a good chance to get hired from the companies visiting the college.
  • Moreover, girls like any other student also have to work hard enough to score well and get placed.
  • They, though, get the benefit as they do not comprise the majority among all B-schools.
  • A student should have scored around 65% to fulfill the eligibility for filling the forms for on-campus placements.
  • Besides this, one shouldn’t worry or be proud of scoring less or more marks, respectively, as the companies don’t seek only academics but also personality.

Thus, don’t be sad with your academic scores, just prepare yourself and work hard with dedication and confidence.

Which B-school should I join if I have converted TISS, SJMSOM (IITB) and NITIE?

RG
Raktim Ghose Posted On : August 11th, 2021
PGDM from Indian Institute of Management Kashipur

All three colleges are on top and choosing one among three is not easy. But I can give you some ideas about them as I have friends studying at these institutes. TISS is one of the most reputed colleges for HRM courses in the country. The top two institutes for HR programs are XLRI and 2nd is TISS. XLRI holds first place due to its history and huge batch size and placements.

  • TISS is growing fast but still doesn’t have the same presence as XLRI has.
  • TISS though has the advantage of a very small batch size compared to XLRI, which means lesser competition.
  • And again TISS is at Bombay while XLRI is at Jamshedpur. I would say TISS is still a very good option for aspirants interested in HR.

NITIE and SOM are the top two colleges in India for operations and supply chain profiles with NITIE being the clear number 1.

  • Long history and a huge batch size result in lots of senior supply chain managers from NITIE across various companies.
  • On the other hand, though 20 years old, SOM was upgraded only recently, to 120 batch size from earlier 60.Students are getting to the top but SOM does not have the same presence as NITIE.
  • NITIE has more recruiting companies with cushy pay packages as compared to SOM. Although SOM is improving its placement numbers rapidly.
  • SOM does boast of elegant IIT B infrastructure and less batch size and hence, lesser competition due to smaller batches.
  • But NITIE would give you more options in terms of placements.

So my preference order will be the following.

TISS (HR) > NITIE (Operations & SCM) > SJMSOM (Finance & others)

So, choose wisely based on your preferred domain. And in case you are interested in Marketing, both NITIE & SJMSOM are equally good.

Has anyone got into NITIE through gate?

RB
Raman Bhattacharya Posted On : August 20th, 2021
PGDIE from National Institute of Industrial Engineering (2017)

Yes, some of my friends have got admission to NITIE through GATE. NITIE Mumbai currently offers a total of five postgraduate degree courses.

  • Post Graduate Diploma in Industrial Engineering (PGDIE)
  • Post Graduate Diploma in Industrial Management (PGDIM)
  • Post Graduate Diploma in Sustainability Management (PGDSM)
  • Post Graduate Program for Executives (PGPEX-VLFM)
  • Interdisciplinary Fellow Program

Of these currently, only Post Graduate Diploma in Industrial Engineering (PGDIE) accepts GATE scores for admission into the program. PGDIM and PGDSM accept CAT scores while PGPEX-VLFM takes through profile and its own admission test. The Fellow program is interdisciplinary and has various research areas to study on.

Which is best among NITIE Mumbai, SIBM Pune, and IIM Rohtak for MBA?

AP
Arijit Pathak Posted On : January 18th, 2023
Former Consultant at KPMG (2019–2021)

In terms of placement, NITIE is the best followed by SIBM Pune, and finally IIM Rohtak. In terms of brand value, IIM Rohtak comes first, followed by NITIE and then SIBM.

Depending on whether you want the IIM tag, you should attend NITIE, SIBM Pune, or IIM Rohtak for Operations. NITIE has a firm grasp on operations and is well-known for it. Furthermore, the Mumbai location is advantageous. If you want to pursue a career in marketing, SIBM Pune should be your first choice.

IIM Rohtak will be considered after these two colleges because it is a relatively new brand that, like the other IIMs, will take time to establish itself.

How are the placements in NITIE Mumbai?

AM
Anjali Mishra Posted On : August 13th, 2021
Studied management from NITIE

NITIE Mumbai is one of the topmost B- Schools in India with a stellar placement record. NITIE offers 5 major courses, i.e. PGDIM, PGDMM, PGDPM, and PGDISEM.

Here are the recent placement highlights for NITIE.

Final Placements 2020:

  • Highest CTC - INR 58.24 lakhs per annum
  • Average CTC - 21.5 lakhs per annum (Domestic)
  • Median CTC - 20 lakhs per annum
  • Top 10% of the batch average CTC - 39.81 lakhs per annum
  • Top 20% of the batch average CTC - 34 lakhs per annum

Around 34% of the Class of 2020 received pre-placement offers and pre-placement interviews through their summer internships at top corporate companies.

Various recruiters such as Amazon, Deloitte, Flipkart, HUL, ITC, P&G, Philips, PwC US Advisory, etc. visited the campus for the placement drive. NITIE is a preferred destination for recruiters.

A total of 143 recruiters attended the placement drive and recruited 268 students.

I would say that being in NITIE there is a pretty good chance that you'll earn more than 20 LPA if you are in the top half of the batch.

Is work experience an added advantage for admissions in NITIE?

SH
Saikat Haider Posted On : August 11th, 2021
Studied at National Institute of Industrial Engineering

There are a few possible outcomes of this. These will come with many advantages and let me discuss them below with you:

Advantages in your course curriculum: There are very less instances where this might happen as subjects are taught extremely well, right from the basics. For example, classes like operation research, statistics for management courses.

  • Project management was a course taken in the first year. But, if you have work experience, you will have a basic idea about the class and understand faster. Similarly, if you have industry experience, you will learn about concepts easily.
  • Keep in mind that this does not mean that freshers are at a loss. You can always ask the teacher to elaborate on an answer. The teachers will also give real-life cases which will help you. They are all experts in their domain. They are seasoned experts who regularly train industry professionals.

Advantage during placements: In this case, both parties are of the opinion that the other is better off. But you should know that this is completely up to you and placement reports are usually a good mix of freshers and experienced students.

  • Having experience will not give you an edge as everyone starts from the same line. Two of my batch mates, one with experience and one without, got offers from the same company – Cognizant.
  • But, Flipkart was one of the few companies recruiting students who had experience range from 12 months to 4 to 5 years.

As a fresher, you might face a few challenges in the first month or two. But, be patient. This does not put you at a disadvantage for the next two years. Everyone gets an equal opportunity so there is no advantage or disadvantage as such.

What are some standard placement criterias in NITIE?

AS
Aamna Sharma Posted On : August 18th, 2021
Studied at National Institute of Industrial Engineering (2019)

NITIE Mumbai being one of the top-notch colleges among other MBA colleges like TISS, JBIMS, NMIMS, etc. has an enormous impact among students who are MBA aspirants.

Check the following points for a brief about placement criteria:

  • The selection criteria vary from company to company basis as the hiring mechanism is not ordinary. Sometimes shortlisting is done by the recruitment team which is part of the HR function.
  • One of my friends works where HR does not play the most important role. But the consulting function takes care of the hiring.
  • In NITIE it is quite a subjective shortlisting mechanism and then elimination takes place through personal interviews.
  • Further, your academic scores are considered.
  • People will definitely look at other aspects of your profile while shortlisting you.

Moreover, the scores play a major role. Each company has its own selection criteria which may include some things like aptitude test, psychometric test, group discussion, and personal interview.

Companies visiting the campus for summer or final placements release a shortlist based on the candidate's grades and it’s not sure whether the company considers one or not.

Which college should I choose? I have got selected at IIM Calcutta and NITIE.

BJ
Bhawana Jain Posted On : December 12th, 2022
IIM Lucknow2019; Converted IIML, K, SP Jain, NITIE

IIM Ahmedabad, Bangalore, Calcutta, and Lucknow are not suitable for the operations stream. If you are certain that this is the path you want to take, NITIE is the best option for you. The fact that the fees are less than half those of IIM C is an added bonus.

If you are unsure of which stream you want to pursue a career in or if you prefer a stream other than operations, IIM Calcutta is the best option.

Consider fees as an added benefit to NITIE. Do not consider it a deciding factor in your studies. Obtaining loans is simple; banks practically beg to lend to you. And once you graduate from college, you will be financially secure enough to cover your student loans.

How is the academic rigour at NITIE compared to IIMs? How are the faculty at NITIE?

TS
Trisha Sharma Posted On : August 12th, 2021
PGDIM from National Institute of Industrial Engineering (2019)

One of my friends studied at NITIE and here are some facts that I got to know from him about the college, their academics, and faculty.

The faculties at NITIE are good, especially the professors from SCM & Operations are really good. They will engage students with their live case studies and the real problems faced by the industries.

  1. Mr. Som Sekhar Bhattacharya teaches strategy in NITIE and his case-based sessions are considered as best by the students.
  2. Finance and Marketing branches have new professors and they are average. The engagement gap between the professors and the students makes the subjects difficult and makes it hard to learn efficiently.
  3. HR professors have a better understanding of the topics. Their sessions are considered more interactive and explanatory when compared to Finance and Marketing.
  4. In this branch, Mr. Nikhil Mehta is regarded as the best professor. He is more leaned towards the practical approach and applications of the subject rather than theory.
  5. Ms. Vijaya Dixit is a professor of Project Management. She is also considered as one of the good faculties. Her study cases are aligned similar to what the students do in the industry.
  6. In Environmental Management Mr. Shirish Sangle explains the topics in such a way that even the boring parts of the subject seem relevant to the industry.

There are some other professors who are appreciated by the students and the overall ranking for the faculty in NITIE would be 7.5 out of 10
