Will software companies allow me to sit in placements? I am a 1st year mechanical student at NIT Jalandhar.

AJ
Arvind Jain Posted On : December 5th, 2022
B.Tech in Civil Engineering, National Institute of Technology, Patna (Graduated 2021)

Most of the top colleges like IITs and NITs allow all branches to sit for placements. But it’s a fact that Mechanical Engineering has stooped to a new low since 2020. The placements have become miserable now. Some tips you can follow to sit for placements are:

  • Maintain a good CGPA ( 8.5+)

  • Become proficient in coding

  • Maintain a good rank in websites like CodeChef, Hackerrank, Hackerearth, etc

  • A good resume is always the top priority for any candidate

But it mainly depends on the placement cell whether they want to allow you for a CS job or not. In most cases they do but if not you can always go for off-campus placement with your NIT tag.

Bachelors of Technology in Mechanical Engineering, National Institute of Technology, Warangal (Graduated 2017)

Rather than doubting your own self, believe strongly that with determination and consistency you can achieve whatever you have in mind. Studying hard is not enough. There are additional tips you need to keep in mind in order to score high CGPA:

  • Paying proper attention in the class can make a drastic difference. You will not have to depend on rote memorization.

  • Develop good relationship with your teachers as they hold 10 out of 100 marks.

  • Be regular with your assignments

  • Try writing the answers from the perspective of the examiner.

  • Group discussions and studies helps you cover the topic broadly.

  • Be consistent with your core studies

  • Revise your concepts regularly

  • Involve yourself in other activities of your interest apart form studying.

Studying hard will get you marks but don’t forget to take proper sleep and stay relaxed during examinations

Which is better for mechanical, VNIT Nagpur or SVNIT Surat and why?

KM
Kaushal Madnani Posted On : January 9th, 2024
VNIT, Graduated 2019

I am a student of B.Tech Mechanical at VNIT Nagpur, so I can’t tell you anything about the Mechanical at SVNIT.

VNIT has a good reputation for its Mechanical. Most of the renowned alumni of our college are from this branch. Here’s a few of their names- Dr. Dinesh Keskar (President of Boeing India and VP of Boeing International Trading), Ashish Saraf (Vice President at Airbus), Hemant Karkare, Satyendra Pakhale and Sanjay Joshi. The faculty for Mechanical is good, and the department offers good lab facilities as well. The senior- junior interaction is also good at the department.

Though I do not know much about SVNIT, I expect that its Mechanical department must be at par with the one at VNIT. Do a thorough research before deciding between either of the colleges.

Which is better, IIT Hyderabad mechanical or NIT Trichy CS?

BG
Bidita Ghose Posted On : May 16th, 2023
Lives in Bengaluru, Karnataka, India

Whether IIT Hyderabad Mechanical or NIT Tricy CS is ‘better’ depends on multiple factors such as your inclinations and career prospects. In short, if you are passionate about Mechanical Engineering then IIT Hyderabad is the best option. The placement opportunities will be average but the scope of higher studies ad research is great here. On the other hand, if you are inclined towards CS, NIT Trichy is the destination for you.

Apart from the branch, there are various other factors like the kind of campus life you want and your interest in getting placed. If you are looking for a glamorous campus life, NIT Trichy will serve you better. NIT Trichy is known for its rich extracurricular culture and has a lot of well-established student clubs. It also has excellent infrastructure and a huge campus with enough space for all of them. Those interested in programming, robotics, etc can pursue their passion as there are many clubs for the same. Here. your branch rarely matters as you will be involved in similar activities as everyone.

There are some students who are driven by the monetary return they will be getting and getting placed is their ultimate goal. In that case, it is important to know that placements in mechanical will not be on par with CSE. NIT Trichy placements are excellent and there are almost 100% placements. So placements wise too, NIT Trichy is better than IIT Hyderabad.

Location-wise, IIT Hyderabad has a slight advantage over NIT Trichy. So both colleges have their own strengths and weaknesses and your personal preference should be the ultimate driving factor.

In terms of both campus life and placements, I will rank NITT > IIT H irrespective of all other factors.

What should I choose between Mechanical at BITS Pilani and Engineering Design at IIT Madras?

AG
Aditi Goswami Posted On : March 31st, 2023
studied at Indian Institute of Technology, Madras (2018)

Engineering Design course offered at IIT Madras is a better option than BITS Pilani Mechanical Engineering. This program is a perfect combination of 60% Mechanical and 30% Electrical engineering. The curriculum is designed to suit the demands of the coming future in terms of developing a product from scratch.

ED from IIT Madras will provide better options for you in comparison to Mechanical at BITS Pilani. You can choose between

  • Higher studies (or)
  • Placements

Higher studies: IITs have a better brand name than BITS globally and thus the IIT tag will fetch you the best higher studies opportunities in top foreign universities. Despite being a new department, ED has alumni in very reputed colleges like MIT, Georgia Tech, etc.

Placements: In this aspect too, IIT sits way ahead of BITS as many top companies just visit IITs. Specifically speaking, IIT Madras has scored the best in comparison to other IITs in terms of placements. The placements statistics of the ED department of IIT Madras are next in level to CS and Electrical offering better placements than Mechanical, and Chemical in terms of the number of students placed as well as the average package offered.

For either of the options, ED from IIT Madras seems to be the better option than Mechanical from BITS Pilani, especially considering the double fees you will have to pay in BITS.

Which is better for mechanical engineering - IIT Mandi Patna or Jodhpur?

TA
Tithi Aggrawal Posted On : May 30th, 2023
Lives in New Delhi

Both IIT Mandi Patna and IIT Jodhpur are well-respected institutions for mechanical engineering. However, it ultimately depends on which one aligns better with your personal preferences and career goals.

IIT Mandi Patna has a strong focus on research in the areas of energy, materials, and manufacturing, whereas IIT Jodhpur has a wider approach to mechanical engineering and has ties with many leading companies across the globe.

Personally, I am more in favor of IIT Jodhpur. I have a few pieces of information regarding IIT Jodhpur Mechanical Engineering.

  • IIT Jodhpur provides an opportunity to go for an industrial summer internship in the first year itself. Companies that recruit students for internships are Mahindra & Mahindra, TATA Motors, TVS, L&T, and others.
  • IIT Jodhpur IIP or the Industrial Immersion Programme offers an insight into the industry and allows you to take projects of Industrial interest as your B. Tech. Project.
  • IIT Jodhpur faculty is very much research-oriented, especially in the fields of thermal, robotics, and materials and manufacturing. This gives the students an opportunity to pursue a master's or PhD after graduation under their mentorship.

Ultimately, I can only guide you and it’s you who has to make the decision. It's best to do your own research and visit the campuses to get a feel for the culture and atmosphere of each institution. This can help you make a more informed decision about which is the best fit for you.

How good is Bharath University for mechanical students?

TP
Tiyasha Pal Posted On : January 12th, 2021
Studied B.Tech in Mechanical Engineering from Bharath University, (2019)

For mechanical engineering, Bharat University is not a better option. It is better that you choose IIT, NIT or well recognised college, as it will be more beneficial for your career development.

Categories

Bharath University

Course Fee

2.4-6 LPA

Placement Percentage

50-60%

Highest CTC

15 LPA

Average CTC

3 LPA

Here are some points that why you shouldn’t go to Bharath University.

  1. Bharat University is less popular than the IITs or NITs.
  2. The faculty of the university is efficient but not very helpful when it comes to teaching students.
  3. Bharat University gives more importance to the CGPA of students than knowledge.
  4. The infrastructure is not up to the mark, as it has underdeveloped laboratories and classrooms.
  5. Preference is given to theoretical knowledge over practical knowledge.
  6. The recruiting companies include Amazon, TCS, Nissan, BHEL, HAL, etc.
  7. You must have a good CGPA to sit on-campus placements. And good school records to get placed with a good company.
  8. At least 70% marks is required to be eligible for placements.

Hence, the placement, academic, infrastructure of Bharat University is not worthy. It is recommended to choose your mechanical engineering degree from a more prestigious college.
