IIIT Sonepat: Which one should I choose, NIT Kurukshetra or NIT Bhopal or IIIT Allahabad for an M.Tech in CSE?

AA
Aarti Ahuja Posted On : September 2nd, 2023

I will never recommend you to choose NIT Kurukshetra because the administration is very disappointing and the entire system is in dilapidated condition. The CSE branch specifically is losing its charm. The official records claim some very good professors but the reality is most of them aren’t interested in teaching.

The result is declared after 4 months and the students were given backs by a margin of 1/4 of a mark. The duration of exams is long, giving no time for holidays. The Institute does not encourage any kind of educational tours or summer training. Research work is not promoted in any form. The only reason NIT Kurukshetra is still here is because of the hard work of students who get good packages.

What is better, IT in VSSUT Burla or in CET BBSR?

KS
Kalyan Sahu Posted On : October 12th, 2023
Lives in Bhubaneshwar

VSSUT and CET are both autonomous universities. Here are some insights on pursuing B.Tech IT at these two-

VSSUT is much older. This makes it a bigger brand. But in terms of location, CET is a clear winner. VSSUT is located in the small town of Burla.

Burla has no direct air connectivity, and the fastest mode of transport is a 6 hour train journey from Bhubaneswar. Thus, top recruiters hesitate to visit the campus for placements. But the placement stats are good. The students miss out on competitive events and internship opportunities because of the distance from Bhubaneswar.

CET is the only government institute in Bhubaneswar other than IIIT. More recruiters visit its campus during placement season. Samsung, Dell and Toshiba are some of the top companies that visit the CET campus.

In terms of academics, VSSUT offers a flexible curriculum. This allows IT students to opt for a few advanced subjects. CET on the other hand, has a rigid course curriculum. In any case, make sure to polish your coding skills for a successful career in IT.

To conclude, pursue your B.Tech IT from the institution that best suits your personal preferences.

Is it worth leaving KGMU seat for AMU seat of an MBBS taking in consideration the UP bond and internal PG reservation?

SD

You are right in considering the UP bond and internal PG reservation while making your choice.

  • Internal Reservation- JNMC offers 50% internal PG quota, which is completely free of caste based reservation. This is beneficial if you plan to pursue PG after your graduation. Also, you’ll have better chances of getting clinical seats here at around 23k AIR.
  • Rural Bond- Unlike KGMU, JNMC doesn’t come under the two year rural bond. This is a big relief in itself.
  • Location- Location wise though, Lucknow is far more developed than Aligarh.

You may choose JNMC (AMU) over any of these top colleges of UP- KGMU, RMLIMS, GSVM, MLN and LLRM. The reason being, as already mentioned by you.

Is it valuable doing MA after Bsc from IGNOU?

RM
Renuka Mahesh Posted On : November 3rd, 2022
MTM from Indira Gandhi National Open University (Graduated 2017)

No, it’s not valuable for someone to go for an MA after graduating from science. Unless you have a specific target or reason behind pursuing PG in arts it’s not recommended at all.

The course you are opting for should have a direct connection with the industry you are planning to enter. Focus on your goal and pursue the program related to that specific field.

People with no specific goals regarding the industry or profession are much more likely to come across such questions. Redefine and recognise your goals and then if it still suits you best, go for PG in arts.

Which is better: CSE in NIT, Durgapur or metallurgy in NIT, Warangal?

KS
Kalyan Shastri Posted On : September 8th, 2023
Lives in Warangal

I would like you to consider certain important things before making your decision-

  • College- Without a doubt, NIT Warangal is ahead of NIT Durgapur in terms of faculty, infrastructure and hostel facilities.
  • Subject - You need to choose your subject based on your interests. Without that you’ll either hate your profession or choose a completely different career path altogether. If you are into math, coding, logic and problem-solving, choose CSE. On the other hand, if you want to study materials, metals, extraction, etc, choose Metallurgy.
  • Profession - CSE will give you better opportunities in the IT sector. You might get a fat check, work for a good company, and live in metropolitans. As you know, IT jobs are basically office jobs.On the other hand, core Metallurgy jobs deal with steel plants, mines and such. You’ll end up working in a remote area if you choose a core job.The placements for CSE are overall much better than Metallurgy, across all engineering colleges. But if you have a passion for metallurgy, you might end up in a good brand or get selected for a government position.
  • Location- Both the places are culturally very different. Research a bit, and figure out which place’s food habits, climate, and culture suits you better.

According to me your college will last for 4 years. However, your branch will become an intrinsic part of your personality and profession. Unless you have an interest in Metallurgy or a good chance at sliding to another branch, choose CSE at NIT Durgapur.

What are the best one year full-time executive MBA courses in India? Can anyone who has done the IPMX course at IIM Lucknow share their experience?

AS
Ankit Sharma Posted On : January 7th, 2023
PGPM from Indian Institute of Management Kashipur (Graduated 2018)

There are mainly 3 MBA programs in India:

  • Two Year Program in Management- Aimed at people with less than 2 years of experience
  • One Year Program in Management- Aimed at people with 2-15 years of experience
  • Part Time Program in Management- Aimed at working professionals

Before we dwell on the best one-year full-time executive MBA courses in India, let’s understand what exactly a one year program is.

The 1-year-program gained fame in India after the success of ISB in the early 2000s. IIMs and other institutes initiated the same and have been offering the 1-year program since late 2000s. This program mainly offers high-quality education for experienced professionals. Some best programs offered in India are

  1. ISB- PGP (Post Graduate Program)
  2. IIM Ahmedabad- PGPX (Post Graduate Program for Executives)
  3. IIM Bangalore- EPGP (Executive Post Graduate Program)
  4. IIM Kolkata- PGPeX (Post Graduate Program for Executives)
  5. IIM Lucknow- IPMX (International Program in Management for Executives)

The admissions happen on the basis of GMAT, Essays, and Interviews. It is primarily meant for people with several years of experience but who want to upgrade their managerial skills.

The best part is that the 1-year-program is equivalent to an MBA internationally. Infact, major international rankings such as Financial Times consider the 1-year program. So the 1-year program at the top B-Schools in India will give you a similar experience academically.

As far as the IPMX course is concerned, it is not an Executive MBA.

I have a choice between IT (Information Technology) in NIT, Surathkal and CS (computer science) in RVCE, Bangalore. Which one would be a better choice in terms of placements, Brand name etc.??

RS
Rima Sarkar Posted On : March 22nd, 2021
IIT BHU (2019)

Between the options, you should choose NIT Surathkal IT. Here are the reasons why.

  • The syllabus difference between IT and CSE is not so much in this institute.
  • The placement process in the institute is exceptional, specifically for the circuit branches, including IT, CSE, ECE, and EEE. However, in the last year, students are recruited by Google and Microsoft.
  • NITK has its own brand name. Maybe it is an NIT, but the students here get a lot of exposure. JEE Mains toppers mainly take admission in this institute every year.

Here is a full overview of NIT Surathkal

You will have to stay here in the hostel, which provides a good experience for them. During the tenure of the course, you will learn how to take care of yourself. Also, if your hometown is Bangalore, then you can frequently visit home.

Which is better in terms of the syllabus, placements and college life: NSIT in ECE vs BIT Mesra in CSE?

TA
Tithi Aggrawal Posted On : August 16th, 2023
Lives in New Delhi

My friend did his B.Tech ECE from NSIT. According to him, NSIT ECE is a better choice than BIT Mesra CSE. Here are the reasons for his preference for NSIT ECE-

  • Location- NSIT graduates have greater access to major industries due to its closeness to cities like Noida and Gurugram. For CAT, GRE, GMAT, etc., Delhi has a good coaching center facility.
  • Brand Value- The brand value of NSIT is greater than that of BIT Mesra.
  • Faculty at NSIT - You will be taught by some of the best professors in the country at the NSIT ECE department. Their letter of recommendation will open numerous doors for you.
  • Seniors at NSIT- The seniors at NSIT are very helpful. Some of your seniors working at top firms may even refer you for an internship/job interview.
  • Classes are held regularly at NSIT- There is a 75% attendance criteria at NSIT. The teachers also come for the lectures regularly.
  • Coding Culture at NSIT- The coding culture at NSIT is great and their coders make it to GSoC every year. Some of them are also ranked highly on sites like TopCoder and CodeChef.
  • Placements- The placements at NSIT are better than BIT Mesra. ECE students from NSIT get placed in core electronics companies, tech, and non-tech firms. Some of these companies are- Texas Instruments, Airtel, KPMG, Bain, BCG, McKinsey, TCS, Maruti Suzuki, Expedia, Google, Uber, etc.
  • The ECE course has been recently updated by NSIT as per the industry standards. You will get to choose among electives from the first year itself. The electives range from Finance to Sports.
  • NSIT is the only Indian college to send delegations to the prestigious Harvard MUN.

Thus, I would suggest you choose NSIT ECE over BIT Mesra CSE.
