What type of medical checkups do they conduct at AIIMS Delhi while admitting students in MBBS?

AG

Every AIIMS conducts several medical checkups before admitting students in M.B.B.S. Some of these include

  • blood tests
  • ECG
  • Eye tests
  • Normal Height and weight parameters

Rarely does anyone fail these tests as they are just for general purposes. The reason these tests are conducted is to prepare you for the dangerous environment you will be working in. It’s better to know the personal health information of the students to prevent any major issues. For instance, those with low WBCs must take more precautions as they are more vulnerable to diseases like TB. However, these tests should be taken seriously as one of my friends shared a story that was really shocking. A student’s ECG was being tested and some issue was found.

Further diagnosis revealed a hole in his heart. Had these tests not been conducted his condition would have worsened.

Is Midnapore Medical College a good place to do my MBBS from? Should I choose it over North Bengal Medical College?

AS
Akanksha Shukla, Posted On : November 18th, 2021
MBBS Medical School & Medicine and Healthcare, Medinipur Medical College (2022)

Studying MBBS means you must forget all your past achievements and start afresh. People usually think there are certain colleges, graduating from which will be valuable in India. But keep in mind that your main focus should be on reading and gathering up knowledge.

You should focus more on self-studying than relying completely on your teachers. MBBS requires reading and re-reading. College is not a primary concern as long as you read your standard textbooks.

Government colleges have a great patient load but poor teaching faculty. Private colleges have less patient load, but better infrastructure and teaching. Finally, everything depends on your passion, interest, caliber, and skill that you acquire over years of practice.

Not all students of AIIMS or JIPMER become the best physicians. Choose a college based on your requirements and not just for your brand name.

Is a personal vehicle allowed in AIIMS Nagpur for an MBBS student?

AB
Advait Bettamwar Posted On : June 10th, 2023
AIIMS Nagpur

No, an AIIMS, Nagpur MBBS student is not allowed to bring his personal vehicle inside the campus except a bicycle. One can even get bicycles on rent here and even its maintenance is taken care of.

These bicycles can be carried inside the Metro also, so they are handy and convenient. AIIMS Nagpur is planning to reconsider this rule once the construction work of the campus is completed. The main reason for restricting public vehicles is to avoid accidents in construction areas.

This rule imposes no restrictions on the students commuting to and from the college as there are Bus services that pick up and drop students from the hostel and college.

FA
Faisal Ahmed Posted On : October 27th, 2020
MBBS from Hassan Institute of Medical Sciences, Hassan (2022)

Dr. DY Patil Medical College of Pune comes under the top 100 (74th NIRF rank) for medical which is recognized by the Medical Council Government of India and the Malaysian Medical Council. The college is a constituent institution (Deemed University) of NITTE.

Faculty

As MBBS has numerous specializations, for each specialized department of MBBS approximately 40 faculty members are allotted for each of the specialized branches of MBBS with an excellent experience of medical teaching.

Alumni

  • The MBBS alumni strength of DPMC and KC Hegde medical college has more than 10,000 alumni which are stronger than SRMC Chennai.
  • The alumni participation is increasing and involved in fundraising activities in the university.

Training and internships

As the MBBS is a full 5 years and 6 months period of time and the last year is only for rotatory internship/ training. So the training and placement cell of these colleges helps to get internship and training for students to various reputed hospitals and laboratories.

Admission procedure

The admission procedure is only based on the score secured in the national medical entrance examination. The students who have been selected for MBBS are invited for counseling.

  • 50% marks is required in both 10th and +2 science in PCB for the general category and 40% marks for reserved candidates.
  • The final admission is based on a valid NEET score.
  •  DPMC and KS Hedge charges 15-25 lakhs p.a whereas SRMC charges up to 2.2 lakhs p.a.

Placement

Dr. DY Patil Medical College:

  • DPMC offered a median salary package of 3.35 lakhs per annum and highest up to 10 lakhs.
  • Recruiters like Apollo, Dr. Agarwal's are coming to hire students for various posts.

SRMC

There are no placement opportunities for medical students but SRMC helps to get internship and research training at reputed hospitals, research centers, and pharmaceutical companies like Himalaya, Nestle, Dr. Mehta's hospital, GSK, netmeds.com, Abbott, etc.

KS Hegde Medical Academy:

  • The median salary offered by KC Hegde medical college is about 4.5 lakhs per annum.
  • Very few recruiters participated in placement drives such as Medgenome, BMR health, Apollo Munich, etc.

Dr. DY Patil Medical College is a good one but their course fee is much more expensive than SRMC Chennai and KS Hegde University Mangalore, so apart from this KS Hedge is the most preferable medical college for MBBS.

Studied at K S Hegde Medical Academy (2018)

If the fees are not your major consideration, then according to the patient load, SRMC and DY Patil are much better than KS Hegde. Though the curriculum and training provided to the students are a lot better in KS Hegde.

The one thing that should matter most is graduating successfully with an MBBS degree. Patient load is not the primary concern until post graduation.

KS Hegde also gives a lot of importance to extracurricular activities, sports and cultural events. This helps in the students holistic development as well. Therefore, analyzing everything, it is suggested that KS Hegde will be better to pursue an MBBS degree.

How is the Life of a MBBS student at MAMC Delhi?

RM
Ridham Mishra Posted On : October 5th, 2023
MBBS from Maulana Azad Medical College (2020)

MAMC Delhi is one of the most prestigious medical colleges of India and offers an excellent campus life to its MBBS students. Although the authorities will claim its a rigging free college, the reality is you will have to entertain the seniors to a certain extent. There have been instances when juniors have been asked to dance and sing for their seniors. Some might be banned from the library for being a nerd. However, never let your guard down, and always maintain your dignity.

The food is very cheap and tasty. The Nescafe Point serves a variety of snacks and coffees and many other delicacies can be bought from the Departmental Canteen. The college has no caste-based discrimination and there is excellent harmony between the peers. You won't face any major language issues here irrespective of whichever part of India you hail from.

The schedule isn't very hectic and students are given a 15-day break for Christmas and New Year. There are enough holidays to plan trips or visit home occasionally.

Is it worth leaving KGMU seat for AMU seat of an MBBS taking in consideration the UP bond and internal PG reservation?

SD
Sagar Dikshit Posted On : September 25th, 2023
lives in Lucknow

You are right in considering the UP bond and internal PG reservation while making your choice.

  • Internal Reservation- JNMC offers 50% internal PG quota, which is completely free of caste based reservation. This is beneficial if you plan to pursue PG after your graduation. Also, you’ll have better chances of getting clinical seats here at around 23k AIR.
  • Rural Bond- Unlike KGMU, JNMC doesn’t come under the two year rural bond. This is a big relief in itself.
  • Location- Location wise though, Lucknow is far more developed than Aligarh.

You may choose JNMC (AMU) over any of these top colleges of UP- KGMU, RMLIMS, GSVM, MLN and LLRM. The reason being, as already mentioned by you.

Are supplementary exams tougher from regular exams in an MBBS. I am going to write the exams this month, and my college is affiliated from RGUHS Bangalore. How strict will the marking be?

SH
Swastika Handa, Posted On : November 2nd, 2021
MBBS from Dr Ulhas Patil (2020)

No, supplementary exams are not tougher than normal papers. Some out of the syllabus questions come in exams. But that is not something to worry about.

  • Prepare from the question papers of the previous 10 years.
  • Proper hard work and dedication are necessary to score good marks.
  • The markings depend on the teachers who check the paper.
  • Some teachers give good marks because they know that students are under pressure during exams but have worked hard enough.
  • But some teachers check the paper very strictly, ending up with average scores.
  • The marking is something that is out of your control. You can only prepare well for the exam so focus on only that.
  • Try writing good answers, neat diagrams, and stay on topic.
  • Simplify your language.

For exams, time management is also essential. Do not put all your time into finishing one question. During practice, solve the previous year’s question papers in the given time to get accustomed to the pattern. This will help you complete the exam without any difficulty.
