XLRI Jamshedpur's New Academic Session Kicks Off with a Significant Representation of Engineering Students

New Delhi: XLRI Jamshedpur had initiated the new academic session 2023-24 at the Tata Auditorium located on the XLRI Jamshedpur campus on June 12. The event witnessed the participation of the new students, their parents, XL faculties, and staff members.

According to the latest reports, the function was inaugurated by Fr. S George S.J, Director of XLRI, Fr. Donald D'Silva S.J, Dean Administration & Finance at XLRI, and Prof. Sanjay Patro, Dean Academics at XLRI, along with other dignitaries on the dais.

They commenced the function by lighting the lamp, with the purpose of sincerely seeking the divine blessings of God Almighty. Additionally, verses from the holy books were recited by XL staff members in order to inspire the students to lead an honest and pure life.

One notable observation is the remarkable proportion of engineers who gain admission into XLRI.

According to an XLRI official, as the new academic session commences at XLRI - Xavier School of Management, a significant number of students from an engineering background have secured admission in the B-School.

In the business management program, engineering students make up 72 percent of the student body. Similarly, in the General Management program, 72.17 percent of students have an engineering background, while in the Human Resource Management program, 45 percent of students come from an engineering background.

The increase in the number of engineering students pursuing management education can be attributed to several factors. Firstly, the evolving job market demands a blend of technical and managerial skills. Engineering graduates, who possess strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, aim to enhance their business acumen and leadership skills through management education, the XLRI official said.

Welcoming the students, Prof. Sanjay Patro, the Dean Academics at XLRI, expressed his warm welcome to XLRI. He mentioned that it was a moment of great joy and happiness for everyone present there.

He emphasized that XLRI is a renowned institution known for its principle of MAGIS, which represents the spirit of generous excellence in one's chosen vocation. He also urged the students to express their unity and solidarity before God for the journey that was beginning, aiming for greater growth and fulfillment.

Fr. Donald D'Silva SJ, the Dean Administration and Finance at XLRI, led the prayer, following which all the students of the new academic year 2023-24 were introduced to over 70 professors from both the Jamshedpur and Delhi campuses of XLRI.

Addressing the audience, Fr. S George S.J., the Director of XLRI, expressed his welcome to all the students on their transformative journey at XLRI. He referred to them as the fortunate ones, the Platinum Batch of XLRI Jamshedpur.

Mentioning that this year, XLRI would be commemorating its 75 years of excellence, the Platinum Jubilee, from October 11, 2023, to October 10, 2024, he said that XLRI is a passion, and the students had made the right decision by being a part of this journey.

He encouraged the students to strive for unity among themselves and to be realistic, embracing both happiness and challenges in their learning journey. He also remarked on the importance of acknowledging human fallibility, learning to embrace courage and faith, and moving forward in life.

Besides, it was noted that 16 students had enrolled in the Fellow Programme in Management (FPM) and 18 students had enrolled in the Executive Fellow Programme in Management (EXEC-FPM).

An official from XLRI stated that XLRI, as an institution, has always placed special emphasis on maintaining diversity in the classroom. They mentioned that a diverse group of students is selected based on factors such as gender, educational background, economic background, professional background, and region.

The official emphasized that diversity is given significant importance during the student intake process at XLRI. Further, this is crucial because students from diverse academic backgrounds bring unique perspectives and angles to the classroom.

Following the academic inaugural event, an ice-breaking session took place in which all the students participated. Various games and activities were organized during this two-hour event. It served as a refreshing experience and facilitated comfortable interaction among the students.
