Lieutenant-governor Brigadier (retd) BD Mishra has decided to set up an agriculture department in the University of Ladakh.

New Delhi: Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh (retd) BD Mishra has decided to set up an agriculture department at the University of Ladakh and will transfer various units of Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology (SKUAST) under its administration. He also mentioned that various SKUAST units in Ladakh will be transferred to the agriculture department of the University of Ladakh.
LG Mishra urged the University of Ladakh's VC, SK Mehta, to accelerate the establishment of the agriculture department. Commissioner Secretary, Higher Education, Ladakh, Padma Angmo suggested that SKUAST has recommended transferring the assert as well as the posts to the administration of Ladakh.
SKUAST Kashmir VC Nazir Ahmad Ganai briefed the meeting on the university's presence in the union territory. He mentioned two research institutes, two Krishi Vigyan Kendras, and six SKUAST units which were established in Ladakh during the erstwhile state of Jammu and Kashmir.
The spokesperson added that the assets of SKUAST-Kashmir will taken over by the Agriculture Department of Ladakh University when it becomes fully functional. Gania mentioned that there are 45 vacant non-technical positions across six university units, all earmarked for Ladakh residents.
