New Delhi: President Droupadi Murmu of India has honored the inaugural convocation of Mahatma Gandhi Central University in Motihari, Bihar on October 19, 2023. 

During her speech to the Mahatma Gandhi Central University students, she emphasized that as attendees of this institution, they are part of a cherished legacy commemorating India's first satyagraha led by Mahatma Gandhi, a heritage revered globally.

President Murmu highlighted that comprehending and internalizing Gandhiji's legacy requires a deep understanding of the positive outcomes of simplicity and truth. She stressed that the pursuit of simplicity and truth is the route to genuine happiness, tranquility, and renown.

She urged students to commit to perpetually adhering to the path of truth in their thoughts, words, and deeds, following the teachings of Bapu.

Furthermore, she added that Gandhiji significantly bolstered people's faith in the principles of non-violence, compassion, ethics, and selfless service. He intricately linked our society, politics, and spirituality with the essence of Indianness. To many worldwide, Gandhiji personifies the embodiment of India.

The President highlighted the profound influence of the historical Champaran satyagraha on society. She mentioned that during this movement, people of different castes came together, sharing meals and breaking down caste barriers. 

She emphasized that approximately 106 years ago, inspired by Gandhiji, the people of Champaran embraced the principles of social equality and unity, compelling the British rule to yield. She further expressed that even in the present day, following the path of social equality and unity will lead Indian citizens toward a modern and developed India.
