The change has been brought as per the NCISM Regulations 2023. Candidates scoring above 50 percent will be granted license to practice medicine in the related field in the country.

New Delhi: The National Exit Test (NExT) has been made mandatory for AYUSH Courses BAMS, BSMS, BUMS. The decision was released in the new National Commision for Indian System of Medicine (NCISM) Regulations 2023 published on December 20, 2023.
According to the official notification released, students pursuing Ayurveda, Siddha, Unani and SowaRigpa courses will have to mandatorily clear the NExT exam to be eligible for enrollment in the state or national register.
The exam will be conducted twice a year, once in February and once in August. You should note that unlike MBBS and BDS Courses, NExT exam will not replace the entrance exam for AYUSH PG Courses. It will only asses the eligibility of the student for enrollment in the register. The AYUSH PG Exam shall be conducted every year following the original pattern.

What is the Purpose of NExT Exam?
The NExT exam will be conducted by a designated authority. The exam will be held for granting license to practice as medical practitioner in the relative discipline and also get registered as a medical practitioner in the Indian System of Medicine. You will also have to serve one- year of internship for this.

You can attempt the NExT exam as many times you want. There is no maximum limit to the number of attempts a candidate can take. You need to score atleast 50 percent in the NExT exam to qualify for registration and license as a medical practitionar in AYUSH courses.
Those with less than 50 percent shall be considered for higher academic courses or job profiles where registration is not mandatory.
