The Supreme Court of India has commenced a hearing today i.e. October 04, 2024, on the much-anticipated NEET PG case. It was previously scheduled for September 30, 2024, but it was postponed to October 4, 2024. A bench led by CJI DY Chandrachud will take up the matter today. Candidates can expect the NEET PG 2024 counseling schedule soon on the official website. The plea was filed by Ishika Jain and 18 others and the main concern was the last-minute changes in the exam pattern.
As per media reports, the next hearing on NEET PG 2024 will be conducted by the Supreme Court after Dussehra. However, candidates are advised to keep checking live news for more updates.

A bench led by Chief Justice DY Chandrachud had scheduled the hearing for September 27, but it was postponed due to the absence of representatives from the Union of India. Initially, the case was addressed on September 13, during which the Chief Justice said the last-minute change in the exam pattern was very unusual. The hearing was rescheduled for September 27 requesting NBE a response. On September 26, the NBE submitted a brief reply along with an affidavit.
The petitioners propose specific changes to the NEET PG examination process, including clearer communication of timelines, effective management, and provisions for re-evaluation. They argue that these changes could help restore trust in the examination process.
Justice Narasimha expresses concern over the anxiety faced by students. "The future of these young doctors is at stake," he remarks, urging both parties to find a solution that prioritizes student welfare. Chief Justice Chandrachud adds that while the court respects the examination process, it is imperative to ensure fairness and transparency for all candidates.
A representative from the petitioners’ side takes the stand to discuss the impact of the current situation on medical students. They highlight that many candidates are in dilemma, unable to proceed with their medical education or career due to uncertainty surrounding the NEET PG results.
Justice P.S. Narasimha, part of the bench, questions the ASG on the rationale behind the timeline for result announcements, seeking clarity on whether any delays were anticipated and communicated effectively to students.
The ASG emphasizes that the NBE has adhered to established protocols and that all results have been processed in a fair and timely manner.
The ASG also notes that the NEET PG examination serves as a critical gateway for aspiring medical professionals and ensures a standardized assessment across the country. They urge the court to dismiss the petitions as they could undermine the examination's credibility.
