NBEMS has told NEET PG 2026 aspirants that test city allocation will not be first come first serve. Candidates must select three preferred test states while applying, and early submission gives no preference in centre allotment.

NBEMS Issues Important Advisory for NEET PG 2026 Aspirants

The National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences (NBEMS) has issued an important advisory for National Eligibility cum Entrance Test Postgraduate (NEET PG) 2026 aspirants on the official website at natboard.edu.in. The advisory was published on July 1, 2026. It flags key changes in how test centres will be allotted this year.

Under the new rule, candidates will not choose a preferred test city while filling the application form. They must instead select three preferred test states in order of choice. The first preference must be the correspondence state entered in the application. The other two preferences must be neighbouring states.

NBEMS has also clarified that test city allotment will not follow a first come first serve model. Early submission of the application form carries no preferential right for any test state, test city, or test centre. The board has asked candidates not to fill the form in haste.

The board has said it will try to allot a test city as per candidate preference. However, due to administrative, security, logistical, or technical reasons, NBEMS may allot a test city or centre anywhere in India. NEET PG 2026 will be conducted as a single computer-based test (CBT).

Why Was the Test State Rule Changed?

The shift from test city to test state selection is aimed at better distribution of candidates across centres. It also reduces last-minute technical load on the portal when the window opens. The rule change means students in remote areas may still get a nearby centre without racing to submit first.

Why This Matters

This is the first time NBEMS has moved from test city to test state as the unit of preference for NEET PG. It removes the rush of submitting the form within minutes of the window opening. The change follows past years when portal traffic caused slot and city issues for many candidates.

Action Plan for Candidates

  1. Read the full advisory on the NBEMS portal before starting the application.
  2. Confirm the state you will use in the form.
  3. List two neighbouring states as the second and third preferences.
  4. Keep scanned documents and internship proof ready in advance.
  5. Do not rush to submit the form on day one of the window.
  6. Cross-check all entries before final submission on the portal.
Keep an Eye On
