NEET UG 2024 counselling dates postponed until further notice due to the ongoing NEET UG controversy. The Ministry of Health clarified that counselling will be conducted after NMC releases the final seat matrix.

NEET 2024 Counselling Dates

New Delhi: The counselling for NEET UG 2024, which was scheduled to start on July 6, 2024, has been postponed. This decision came after the Supreme Court, led by Chief Justice DY Chandrachud and Justices JB Pardiwala and Manoj Misra, decided not to delay the counselling process. The court will now hear pleas related to NEET UG 2024 on July 8, 2024.

Several petitions have been filed, alleging a paper leak and calling for the cancellation and re-conduction of the NEET 2024 exam. Some petitions also demand an investigation into the National Testing Agency (NTA).

Petitioners have requested a stay on the counselling process due to rank inflation and a lack of transparency. The CBI is handling the investigation into the alleged paper leak and has arrested several individuals involved.

The Union government and the NTA oppose reconducting the NEET UG 2024 exam, citing disruptions to the academic calendar and minimal instances of malpractice. The Supreme Court will further deliberate on these issues on July 8, 2024.

Ministry of Health Clarification

The Ministry of Health clarified that NEET UG 2024 counselling will take place after the National Medical Commission (NMC) announces the number of available seats in the third week of July. Initially, counselling was supposed to begin on July 6, 2024.

The delay comes amid controversy over a NEET paper leak, raising questions about the integrity of the NTA. Although the NTA informed the Supreme Court that counselling would start on July 6, 2024, the MCC has not yet released the detailed schedule.

NEET UG 2024 Counselling Process

To participate in counselling, qualified students must register, pay fees, fill and lock choices, upload documents, and report to the allotted institute. NEET UG counselling includes multiple rounds, such as stray vacancy and mop-up rounds. Seats are allotted in government colleges, central and deemed universities including ESIC medical colleges, and Armed Forces Medical College (AFMC) Pune.

The NTA released NEET UG 2024 retest results for 813 candidates, with the topper count reducing from 67 to 61 due to re-evaluation. The Ministry of Health emphasized that the NEET UG and PG 2024 counselling schedules would be announced after the NMC finalizes the seat matrix.
