MANUU to Offer Three New Law Courses After Approval from Bar Council of India


MANUU will launch a Five-Year Law degree BALLB (Honours), a Three-Year LLB and a One-Year LLM plus PhD (Law) in Urdu medium.

New Delhi: Prof. Ishtiaque Ahmed, the Bar Council of India issued a letter on June 17, 2024, approving Maulana Azad National Urdu University (MANUU) to start three new Law courses from the 2024-25 academic year. Vice-Chancellor Professor Syed Ainul Hasan expressed his happiness on this matter, describing it as an important milestone in the history of Maulana Azad National Urdu University.

The Parliamentary Standing Committee, headed by Shri Vivek Thakur recommended starting law education in the vernacular languages of the country under the New Education Policy 2020. Based on the recommendations of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Higher Education, MANUU will offer a Five-Year Law degree BALLB (Honours), a Three-Year LLB, and a One-Year LLM plus a PhD (Law). These courses will be taught in the Urdu medium.

The Registrar emphasized that the lovers of Urdu now must create awareness among students across the country about the availability of LLB and LLM education through the Urdu medium. He added that MANUU obtained permission to start these courses after fulfilling all the conditions set by the Bar Council of India. 

Prof. Tabrez Ahmed stated that entrance tests were already held for aspiring students seeking admission to BALLB (Hons), LLB, and LLM courses. Admissions were granted based on the marks obtained in these tests.
