IIT Ropar PhD Admission Open for 2026

The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Ropar has begun the PhD admission in Mechanism & Design and Thermal & Fluid Engineering for the academic year 2025-2026. Interested candidates must apply online by November 18, 2025, till 5:30 PM.

Shortlisted candidates will be called for interviews from November 24, 2025, to November 25, 2025. Exemption is provided to candidates who have qualified for the GATE/ National Level Exam, or have completed a minimum four-year duration, admission to which is based on JEE, and must have obtained a CGPA of 7.5 or above.

IIT Ropar PhD Admission Category

Candidates will be admitted to the PhD program at IIT Ropar under any of the following categories:

Full-Time PhD

Admission for full-time students can be based on the Institute Fellowship, Fellowship through project, Self-financed Indian nationals, sponsored candidates, and Government/ Semi-Government Fellowship Awardees, such as PMRF, CSIR-JRF, DST-INSPIRE, DBT, NBHM, QIP, DST-WISE PhD, etc.

Part-Time PhD

Admission for part-time students can be based on an external registration program, IIT Ropar regular staff, and part-time.

Note: In the thermal and fluid engineering stream, only the candidates from the reserved category (EWS/OBC/SC/ST) are eligible. In the Manufacturing Engineering stream, only Part-time/ ERP Candidates are eligible.
