IIT Guwahati PhD December 2025 Selection Process

IIT Guwahati is set to conduct the PhD December 2025 session selections between November 24 and December 5, 2025. Departments will release individual shortlists and schedules on the institute’s application portal and departmental websites.

Candidates shortlisted will be evaluated based on:

  • Academic performance
  • GATE/NET/CEED scores (where applicable)
  • Discipline-specific written tests and/or interviews

The institute has allowed departments to adopt offline, online, or hybrid modes, ensuring flexibility for applicants. In hybrid models, initial screening may occur online, followed by on-campus interviews for final rounds.

IIT Guwahati offers PhD admissions across engineering, sciences, design, management, and interdisciplinary centres. Candidates must meet program-specific qualifications, with GATE/NET/CEED requirements applicable for most streams.

A special Institute Assistantship Test is available for non-GATE MTech/MDes/MS(R) candidates, conducted offline on campus, based on discipline-wise syllabus released by the institute.

Selected candidates must accept their offer and pay the fee within the given timeline. Withdrawal requests submitted by December 27, 2025, will incur a deduction of INR 1,000, while later withdrawals will receive only the refundable portion. Admission remains provisional until document verification.
