Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Rohtak is all set to open Open Dubai Centre and offer blended programme in management in January 2024.
New Delhi: In an exclusive interview, Prof. Dheeraj Sharma, director of the Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Rohtak, stated that the institute plans to start offering a blended programme in management in January 2024. He mentioned this while speaking on the sidelines of an international conference that the institute co-hosted in Dubai, “In order to start early in the following year, we hope to induct the first group this year.
We have decided on a location where we can hold classes here in anticipation of the programmes beginning in January 2024.” “I'm confident that having an executive course for working professionals will make a tiny contribution to Dubai's and the UAE's expanding economy in general,” he added.
Prof Sharma said, the majority of the classes will be held online in the evenings and on weekends, who noted that the hybrid method will accommodate the variable schedules of working professionals. We'll invite them to visit our campus in Rohtak three times a year for a total of 15 days, and we'll hold a comparable amount of classes here (at the Dubai centre).
Prof. Sharma claimed that Dubai was chosen as the ideal location for its first overseas centre because the IIM Rohtak used to accept a large number of candidates from the GCC region for comparable short-term courses. “Additionally, a significant portion of our professors is from the Middle East.
Every year, we invite 40 to 50 faculty members from this area to instruct our students,” he added. According to Prof. Sharma, IIM Rohtak has the most students of any IIM in the nation. It is currently establishing a second campus approximately 20 minutes from the international airport, which will be located on a 200-acre complex around 90 minutes from the airport in New Delhi.
The five-year combined BBA-MBA program's first three years provide courses in Arabic. “As a result, our graduates will be fluent in Arabic. Particularly in three areas, we observe several synergistic interactions between our school and the UAE's educational establishments.
Three education programmes are offered: one for the Indian diaspora, one for working executives, and one for UAE government officials who would receive executive education and training to assist them refocus and become more knowledgeable about modern management approaches”.
In order to enable the creation of the IIM Rohtak centre in Dubai, Prof. Sharma stated that the Indian Consulate in Dubai and the Indian Embassy in Abu Dhabi were in contact with the UAE authorities. Dubai hosted the 19th World Congress of the Academy for Global Business Advancement (AGBA) on May 20 and 21, 2023.
At the conference with the theme "Business and Entrepreneurship Development in a Globalised and Digitalized Era", researchers from 32 nations delivered more than 250 presentations. Eminent speakers from around the world attended the conference, including V Muraleedharan, the Indian Minister of State for the Ministry of External Affairs, and Dr. Aman Puri, the Indian Consul General in Dubai.
Muraleedharan claimed in an interview with Gulf News that the Indian government supported initiatives made by its top universities like the IIMs and IITs (Indian Institutes of Technology). “Students in this country as well as many others in the region will benefit from it. In the UAE, an IIT will soon be opening. These advances demonstrate how India is assuming the top position in a number of education-related fields”, he said.
In his keynote speech, he emphasised the value of regional cooperation for maintaining global stability and highlighted the significant contribution made by India during the COVID-19 pandemic, which saw it provide more than 280 million doses of vaccine to more than 100 countries as well as medical supplies and medications to more than 150.
He noted that African countries actively participated during India's G20 presidency, which had the theme "One Earth, One Family, One Future" and stressed unity, inclusivity, and decisive action for the advancement of humanity. In the meantime, he said, India's commitment to inclusive progress for all was made clear by the Voice of the Global South Summit, which was presided over by Prime Minister Narendra Modi of India.
COP28 and CEPA: “We enthusiastically anticipate the upcoming COP-28 Summit, which will be hosted by the UAE at Expo City Dubai, given India's strong emphasis on sustainable development and its track record of promoting ecological balance. As regional partners, we see the COP-28 Summit as an opportunity to provide real-world solutions, produce measurable outcomes, and generate significant effects”.
Speaking about India-UAE relations, the minister said “It serves as a brilliant example of what two like-minded countries with tremendous scientific, financial, and human potential can accomplish via cooperation”.
“Our dedication to establishing deeper economic connections and maximising the potential of cooperation is demonstrated by the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement [CEPA] between India and the UAE. It stands for tactical collaboration that upholds the values of transparency, inclusion, and mutual gain.
This deal, which was negotiated and signed in just 88 days, is a reflection of the strong trust and ties that exist between our two nations. The I2U2 group, made up of India, Israel, the US, and the UAE, has created the foundation for a resilient alliance in these times of fast change, driven by economic pragmatism and multilateral cooperation. This collaborative framework serves as evidence of stability in the face of erratic global developments,” he added.
