New Delhi: Dubai hosted the 19th World Congress of the Academy for Global Business Advancement (AGBA) from May 20 to 22, 2023. Over 250 papers were given during the conference with the theme "Business and Entrepreneurship Development in a Globalised and Digitalized Era" by researchers from 32 different nations.
In addition to many other nations, this delegation included representatives from the USA, India, Indonesia, UAE, Afghanistan, Thailand, Kenya, Taiwan, Sri Lanka, Qatar, Bangladesh, Finland, Vietnam, Pakistan, Malaysia, Jordan, Iraq, Turkey, Lebanon, South Africa, Egypt, New Zealand, Uganda, Kazakhstan, Saudi Arabia, UK, Oman, and Nigeria.
Eminent speakers from around the world attended the conference, including V Muraleedharan, Minister of State for External Affairs, the Government of India, Dr. Aman Puri, Consul General of India in Dubai, and Manjeev Puri, Former Ambassador. As V Muraleedharan, Minister of State, Ministry of External Affairs, remarked in his keynote address as the conference's honorary guest, "We have seen challenges that have profoundly impacted the world".
He highlighted India's involvement in COVID. India supplied millions of vaccines to more than 100 nations. He talked about how international stability is based on regional collaboration. He talked about India's journey as Amrit Kaal began a moment of transition. India will continue to be one of the world's fastest-growing economies during the next 25 years thanks to the youth's entrepreneurial propensity.
India's G20 presidency, according to him, has been crucial. The G20's theme is "one family, one future." During its G20 presidency, India placed a strong emphasis on three fundamental concepts: unity, inclusivity, and decisive action. The summit on the global south, which was presided over by PM Narendra Modi, emphasised unity of voice and unity of purpose, according to him.
He also emphasised that the highest level of African nation participation occurred while India had the G20 leadership. When speaking to the academics, academicians, and business community of Dubai, Prof. Dheeraj Sharma, Director of IIM Rohtak, discussed the need for management scholars from all over the world to examine current, pertinent, and timely issues like the food grain crisis brought on by the conflict in Russia and Ukraine.
Management researchers ought to consider different international commerce routes and ways to streamline the global supply chain. Prof. Sharma emphasised the impact of regional connections on international relations. Prof. Sharma also discussed how emerging nations now have an accomplishment orientation and understand that they can succeed as well thanks to India's G20 presidency.
Nations have now shown a willingness to contribute not based on power but based on necessity, making the G20 presidency successful. The G20 presidency by India has produced the ideal harmony between institutions with de jure and de facto powers. There were two significant panel discussions at the conference.
The focus of the first panel discussion was "The role of the G20 in fostering global economic stability." Expert panellists included Dr. Manjeev Puri, a former Indian ambassador to the European Union, Belgium, Luxembourg, and Nepal, Prof. Tatiana Karabchuk, an associate professor at the UAE University, and Dr. Maysaa Banat, an assistant professor at the Rafik Hariri University.
Prof. Dheeraj Sharma served as the panel's moderator. The G20: India's leadership as a host: Challenges and opportunities was another topic covered in-depth by the panel. The three game-changing concerns, according to Manjeev Puri, were sustainable development and climate change, poly-crises, and how people recovered from the epidemic and its effects on the global recession.
According to Prof. Tatiana, the best approach to promoting growth and resolving economic balance is to foster social cohesion, which is crucial for long-term sustainability and progress. Dr. Maysaa emphasised the significance of the exceptional potential of international communication and language as a transformative force for economic stability and how the G20 should harness this power to create a brighter future for everybody.
She emphasised how current G20 diplomatic communication has reduced problems. Finally, Prof. Dheeraj Sharma stated that India had made a positive impact on international trade by creating world-class business leaders who now run some of the biggest multinational firms. The conference participants agreed that India must take a strong and proactive role in resolving escalating international problems using conventional Indian wisdom.
"Regional cooperation for strengthening global linkages in the VUCA world" was the subject of the second panel discussion. The panellists were Prof. Maxime Jaffre, Assistant Professor, UAE University, Prof. Melodena Stephens, Professor of Innovation at Mohammed Bin Rashid School of Government, and Prof. Glenn Muschert, Professor at Khalifa University of Science & Technology.
The panel's chairman was Prof. Dheeraj Sharma. Regional firms are crucial for knowledge exchange in the VUCA environment, where change is only ever accelerating, according to Prof. Muschert. Additionally, he said that regional corporations are not an option but rather a requirement. According to Professor Stephens, "trade crosses borders because people cross borders as we have unified the world through currencies".
Prof. Jaffre focused on the "PLACE," which forges international connections and aids in fortifying local businesses through culture by fostering an ecosystem of various businesses. In order to achieve a paradigm shift from a push economy to a pull economy, Prof. Sharma said that we must stop multinational corporations (MNCs) from pushing unnecessary, low-value, wasteful, and polluting products.
This was how he concluded the discussion. We must acknowledge the contribution the Indian way of life makes to the fight against pollution and climate change. He emphasised the need for more global understanding so that people might work together out of necessity rather than out of a desire for dominance.
Several Faculty Development Workshops on various subjects pertaining to research on business and entrepreneurship development were also held during the conference. Over the course of a three day symposium on a variety of topics.
