The new two-paper combinations will be available from 14 to 20 November 2024 for candidates who have already registered. Combinations other than the listed ones are NOT allowed in the initial (Regular and Extended) windows of registration.

The Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) 2025 has altered some of the two-paper combinations which has been a blessing to the candidates in terms of study. The new two-paper combinations will be available from 14 to 20 November 2024 for candidates who have already registered for GATE 2025. These are in addition to the two-paper combinations that were offered in the regular and extended application window.

GATE_TWO_PAPER

The new two-paper combinations allow candidates to opt for a broader range of subjects, complementing the increasing emphasis on multi-disciplinary knowledge.

  • Candidates who had taken only one paper previously could now add a second paper from the new two paper combinations.
  • This is available at a regular fee with no penalty.
  • Those who had already taken two papers could now change their second paper only.
  • Those who wanted to add a second paper from the existing two paper combinations provided could add the new paper at a regular fee with a penalty.
  • The examination center of a candidate for the second test paper may be different (but in the same city) from that for the first paper due to infrastructure and scheduling constraints.

GATE Two Paper Combination

The test papers will be in English. If you are appearing in TWO test papers, you must have a primary choice of test paper. The second test paper must be chosen from the combinations allowed in the table above. Combinations other than the listed ones are NOT allowed in the initial (Regular and Extended) windows of registration. The authorities may open up additional two-paper combinations at a later date, which will be notified on the GATE 2025 website gate2025.iitr.ac.in.

How Two-Paper Combinations Work

Candidates who decide to sit for two papers will sit for two different but related papers each of which belongs to a different field of study. For instance, joining Computer Science with Data Science or Mechanical Engineering with Aerospace is quite typical. This is because the market human resource requirements have been identified to need people with knowledge in areas where two or more disciplines overlap. Those who opt for this combination will appear for the two papers separately in different slots as stated by the GATE committee earlier.

The new changes in the two-paper combinations for the GATE 2025 are new ideas consistent with the advanced structures found in other parts of the world in advanced technical and scientific learning. In this process, disciplinary convergence occurs and hence GATE introduces a new framework for competency measurement that prepares the Indian graduate for the future needs of his career in the worlds of industry, academia, and research.
