Breaking Records: Female Enrollment Soars in IIM Admissions 2024

New Delhi: The Indian Institutes of Management shortly known as IIMs, have reported a historic rise in female enrollment for their MBA programs in 2024. Notably, IIM Rohtak and IIM Sambalpur have both seen more than 70% of their MBA seats filled by women.

IIM Sambalpur Leads with 76% Women

The IIM Sambalpur's recently inducted 10th MBA batch boasts a remarkable 76% female enrollment. Out of 320 students admitted, 266 are women. This is a significant increase from last year's 60% female representation. According to the IIM director, before 2017, women's participation in MBA classes across IIMs was less than 11%. In 2017, IIM Sambalpur introduced a policy granting an additional 5% cut-off reduction for female candidates during interviews. This initiative led to achieving a 50% female enrollment, setting a model now adopted by all IIMs.

IIM Rohtak's Consistent Female Participation

The IIM Rohtak admitted 73% of women in its 15th batch of the postgraduate program in management. Although slightly lower than last year's 78%, it remains one of the highest percentages of female enrollment among IIMs.

Significant Gains at Other IIMs

  • IIM Ahmedabad: Being the oldest and top management institute IIM Ahmedabad saw a 25% increase in female enrollment in its PGP program this year, up from 23% last year.
  • IIM Kashipur: The IIM Kashipur recorded 42% female enrollment in its 2024-26 batch for MBA and MBA Analytics programs. Notably, the MBA Analytics batch saw a jump to 75% female candidates from last year's 69%.
  • IIM Udaipur: Ranked 15th in the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) management ranking last year, IIM Udaipur welcomed 32% female students in its two-year flagship MBA program for the 2024-25 academic session.

A Trend Towards Gender Balance

The increase in female enrollment across the IIMs reflects a positive trend towards gender balance in top management education. This shift is attributed to targeted policies and initiatives that encourage female participation and create an inclusive environment.
