CBSE Implements Major Changes to Reduce Pressure in Class 10 and 12 Board Exams; Check Details Here

New Delhi: The stress associated with class 10th and 12th board exams typically begins a year in advance, around classes 9th and 11th. To alleviate this pressure, efforts are underway in line with the New Education Policy 2020 (NEP 2020) and a revamped examination structure. There will be significant transformations in the education format and preparations for these changes have already commenced.

The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has introduced substantial modifications to the examination pattern and grading system for classes 10 and 12 board exams. These adjustments aim to reduce the academic burden on students and also impose certain restrictions on the coaching culture.

The CBSE board exams for the year 2024 are scheduled to commence on February 15. To aid students in comprehending the new examination format and marking scheme, the board has published CBSE Class 10 and 12 Sample Papers, accessible on the official website, cbse.gov.in. The changes highlight the competency-based questions, promoting understanding over memorization.

For CBSE Class 10, the question paper composition will include 50 percent competency or case-based questions, 20 percent response-type questions, 20 percent multiple-choice questions, and 30 percent constructed response questions, including both short and long-answer formats.

However, for CBSE class 12, a total of 40% of questions will be competency or case-based, while 20% will be of response-type, with 20% of questions being multiple-choice, and 40% of questions requiring constructed response (short and long answers).

As per the new CBSE sample papers, the students must take the school pre-board exam before the main exam. In the 2024 board exam, 50% of class 10 and 40% of class 12 questions will be ability-based. The exam will include objective, short-answer, and long-answer questions, with students answering 15 to 35 questions within three hours.
