She has grown from the ranks right here in the institute, starting her teaching career as a Lecturer in the year 2008. She obtained her Ph.D. from Andhra University, Visakhapatnam, and her Masters from Andhra University, Visakhapatnam. She has published 25 research papers in various reputed National and International journals, besides a couple of patents to his credit. In her impressive teaching and administrative career, She has consistently promoted innovative teaching practices and imaginative thinking. Being a HOD of Nirmala Pharmacy College, what are your roles and responsibilities towards the students?

Being a HOD, I am involved in assessing the potential capabilities of students as per the associated talents of the students. They will be divided into Slow and Fast Learner groups, and then further training and shining will be given to them.


How do you establish healthy relations with the students and fellow faculty? 

As a HOD, I am implementing a strategy to foster healthy relationships with students and faculty by promoting open communication, accessibility, and mutual respect. I promote a culture of respect, treating everyone with respect regardless of their role or position, making the involvement of faculty and students in departmental decisions, encouraging feedback loops, and supporting professional growth and mentoring.


How do you try to bring a practical approach to subjects and make it industry-oriented?

I am always committed to providing up-to-date knowledge to the students related to the pharma industry by taking the help of Industrial experts, including real-life case studies, problem-solving exercises, organizing industry-related workshops, and creating a simulated environment of the industry that can enhance the practical approach towards the subject.


What are the best practices offered by the department to the students that help them gain the necessary skills?

As a Head of the Department, we implement best practices to help students in the pharmaceutical field, including hands-on laboratory experience, industry-relevant curriculum, guest lectures, workshops, professional training, and internships. Continuous feedback and assessment are used for department development.


How do you strategize the curriculum, and how often is it updated to benefit the students?

As ours is an affiliated college, we follow the curriculum designed by Acharya Nagarjuna University. Along with the curriculum, we include co-curricular programs like the incorporation of training programs and internship programs in which students can learn communication skills, problem-solving skills etc.

What are your views on the placements and higher education about the students from your department, or How does your department prepare students for Higher education?

As per the mentor-mentee process, we do identify the students who are strong in academics and train them for the higher education process; those who are weaker in studies but they will know other innovations, entrepreneurship so those slower students are trained in entrepreneur skills development and thereby they can provide employment to other people.


How do you help your student cope with the high competition in the outside world? 

We offer a comprehensive curriculum, practical application, career counseling, skill development workshops, internships, guest lectures, industry interaction, research opportunities, professional networking, mock interviews, continuous learning, and mental health support to equip students with the skills and mindset needed to thrive in the competitive job market.


Do you have any extracurricular activities/ programs to enhance the students' skills or expose them to real-world challenges?

Our college offers various extracurricular activities and programs to enhance students skills and expose them to real-world challenges. These initiatives are part of our holistic approach to education, including student clubs, Industry workshops, Hackathons, research symposiums, industry visits, internships, innovation challenges, community outreach, entrepreneurship incubators, soft skills development programs, global exchanges, and career development workshops.


What are the challenges you faced/ are facing to uplift the quality of education in your department? 

Our department prioritizes improving education quality despite facing challenges such as adapting to rapid technological advancements, attracting and retaining qualified faculty, balancing theory with practical application, fostering industry-academia collaboration, addressing diverse learning styles, ensuring access to advanced resources, and maintaining accreditation and quality assurance.


When you came to college, what was your vision, and how are you trying to achieve the same? 

When I assumed the role as the Head of Department at this esteemed institution, my vision was to create a dynamic and forward-thinking environment that fosters excellence in pharmaceutical education. The vision involves fostering excellence in education, promoting industry relevance, empowering students for success, promoting research and innovation, fostering industry-academia collaboration, cultivating a supportive learning environment, and continuously improving and adapting. Through consistent dedication, collaboration with faculty and stakeholders, and a forward-thinking approach, I am committed to realizing this vision and ensuring that our department continues to thrive as a beacon of excellence in pharmaceutical education.

By incorporating these elements into our curriculum, we aim to prepare students with theoretical knowledge, practical skills, and industry-specific know-how needed to excel in the pharmaceutical field. These initiatives ensure faculty members are equipped with the knowledge, skills, and experiences necessary to meet industry standards and provide high-quality education to students. 


What interventions and approaches do you bring apart from the curriculum to train/teach the students? 

We employ various strategies to enhance the learning experience and skill development of students in the pharmaceutical industry. These include experiential learning opportunities, problem-based learning, simulation exercises, cross-disciplinary collaboration, mentorship programs, professional skills workshops, industry visits and tours, research initiatives, global experiences and study abroad programs, encourage cross-disciplinary collaboration, and continuous feedback and assessment. These strategies go beyond traditional classroom settings, providing students with a well-rounded educational experience.


What are the department's/ college's greatest strengths, and how can they be enhanced?

Our current department/college has several strengths, including dedicated and experienced faculty, state-of-the-art laboratories and facilities, strong industry connections, Research excellence, active student engagement, Holistic curriculum design, supportive learning environment, Recognition of achievements, Adaptive and responsive leadership, an effective industry advisory board, and a global perspective and collaboration. To further strengthen the department, we can implement Faculty Development Programs, invest in the latest technology, Foster a Research culture, and provide opportunities for collaboration and internships. 


What valuable advice would you like the students to have for them to have a prosperous career ahead? 

I will advise the students to stay committed, be proactive, continue to learn and grow, stay informed about industry trends, and develop soft skills like communication, teamwork, leadership, and time management. With dedication and a strong work ethic, students will have the potential to achieve great success in the pharmaceutical industry.
