You have held key positions at education institutes throughout your professional career. What are the key factors that keep you connected with the education sector?

The main factor is my interest in this field of education, teaching, and research. I love teaching, and that’s my favourite thing. Even today, I also teach.

Being the Director of Pooja Bhagavat Memorial Mahajana Post Graduate Centre, what is your philosophy of leadership? How would you describe your leadership style?

My leadership style is very simple. I believe in togetherness. I want to build vibrant and educated youth. I want to contribute to the nation by educating youngsters in various fields. So here we emphasize not only education in our institution but also personality building. Education now plays an important role in various areas.

Being the Director of Pooja Bhagavat Memorial Mahajana Post Graduate Centre, how do you strategize about the key programs and plans for the marketing and administration of your institute?

Our plan is to become a university in due course. Now we are affiliated with Mysore University, we are an autonomous college, and we are one step closer to becoming an independent university. This institution started 75 years ago. This is one of the oldest institutions in Mysore.

The education systems in India and other foreign countries are structured very differently. In your experience, what can an inbound student gain from studying here in your institute?

The defect of the Indian education system is that we do not train our students in particular skills. All are completely bookish, like studying something, taking exams, writing notes, passing, and becoming a graduate. Now the emphasis is slowly changing; now students should adopt skills; they should learn various technical and non-technical skills, and it should be mentioned in their syllabus as well. So that will help the youth become skilled and cooperate in the coming days. So in our institution right now, we place emphasis on skill development. We have courses like Hotel Management, Tourism, Computer Science, etc. where students get hands-on training in professions.

Any insights into how your university could be more welcoming to students of different races or economic backgrounds?

Our emphasis would be on skill development, and we would start such courses that are professional in nature rather than traditional courses that are bookish in nature.

What do you think should be the University’s top priority over the next 10 years?

We are planning for research. Life Science is already in the department where students can do their PhD. This year we are planning for a PhD in Commerce and Management. We want to make this institute a research centre where students can pursue their PhD programmes as well.

When you first came to Pooja Bhagavat Memorial Mahajana Post Graduate Centre, what was your vision for the university? Has it evolved over time, and how far along in implementing that vision are you?

My vision was to enter to learn and depart to serve.

What would you like people to know about your university they may not know?

We want them to know that this institution is not profit-oriented but education-centric, where students can get good jobs and education. Here, profit-making is not a major objective.

What do you see as Pooja Bhagavat Memorial Mahajana Post Graduate Centre’s greatest strengths?

Our strengths are that we have very good faculties; most of them have done PhDs, and most of them are ladies. We believe in women’s empowerment as well. So students are also girls, and 80% of teachers are also ladies.

Any suggestions you would like to give to the current youth and the aspiring students?

We want them to be very patriotic. We want them to be well-educated, we also want them to empower women. Participate in the nation’s development process. We especially encourage girls in our institution.
