What is your philosophy of leadership?
“Managing pros and cons with a highly united team”
My philosophy of leadership is to establish a team, guide and make them work towards the vision of the organisation. I honestly believe that if the team can understand the overall guiding principles, then the leaders’ job is to motivate and support them for the same. At times, leadership is to understand the problems within the team as a team member and create solutions by considering the emotional aspects of each member. My leadership style is a mix of democratic, transformational, charismatic and at times slightly authoritative too. Though I sense many positives behind these styles, I am in the learning arena to manage the negatives. People Management skills being the key factor, my skills merged to manage it greatly. Decision making at the right time wherein the skill delivered creates growth of the institution.
How does the curriculum of your College ensure the best practice of industry?
“Aligning the courses with current industry needs”
Michael Job College of Arts and Science is affiliated to Bharathiar University which follows an updated curriculum offered by this University. The College in addition offers add-on courses which helps students gain practical skills and knowledge. Certification programs like Tally, SAP, International trade documentation is offered in Commerce; Business Analytics, Digital Marketing and Logistics in BBA; Data Science, Artificial Intelligence and Cyber security in Computer Science; Aviation in BA History and Tourism are added apart from the proposed curriculum. The students take an internship in the industry arranged by the college to have real time experience. This gives them a broader vision of the working environment during their student life itself. They carry out industry based projects as well which makes our student industry-competent.
What do you think your roles and responsibilities to the college are?
“Creating a positive and manageable learning environment”
I have a broader vision of inculcating academics with real time experience developing the utmost skills and competency in the core area of study. Responsibility of making my student socially responsible and creating leadership qualities within them is topmost. I mediate between the faculty and the Management, and my responsibility lies in managing people, to keep systems and processes in place. Managing people is an art, but systemising processes needs greater clarity and data knowledge. To develop leadership quality among my faculty is also my keen area and hence I deeply work on it. I personally feel that my role in the college is to create positivity around so that it makes our girl students feel very safe and secure.

How far have you been successful in implementing the vision for the college?
“Potential excellence in teaching-learning process”
Our vision is to develop creative, independent and socially adaptable girl children with great confidence. Also, getting accredited with NAAC as a college of potential excellence. We have worked for the quality education of this institution during all these years. Systems and processes are in place with our faculty showing tremendous improvements both academically and personally. Doctorates in the campus have increased over time. Virtual learning has become a part of our teaching process, and Artificial Intelligence is incorporated in our teaching and learning process as well. Our faculty and students are socially conscious, vision oriented and focussed in whatever they do.
What would you like people to know about your College they may not know?
“Quality education and successful empowerment to girls”
Michael Job College offers an Entrepreneurship programme to its students free of cost. All the students are taught with Coding Literacy, and undergo Communicative English classes so as to improve their language skills. They are trained in their aptitude skills right from the first year of their course. Digital talks are given by various subject experts from all over the world which make the student gain more confidence. Free education, free accommodation and food are given to the economically downtrodden. Due to this, our girls become service oriented and socially responsible. Hands on training in Baking, Tailoring and Beautician Courses are offered which helps the girls for a business start-up.
What are some of the biggest challenges you see for higher education?
“Practical exposure and adopting new technologies”
Most important one is the skill gap between academia and the industry. Though certain courses align to the industry, a practical experience is definitely missing in higher education. The challenge is found when the faculty and students take time to adapt with the speedy technology. A student becomes competent when he undergoes a core work experience in an industry. Competency based learning in a college can offer credits based on his work experience too. Also, the parents are a little hesitant in making their daughters explore more than the academia may be in an industry due to safety concerns.
Any suggestions you would like to give to the current youth?
“Self belief and consciousness is the need of the hour”
Current youth are really visionary and focussed. My suggestion to them is that they should be more empathetic to build and care for relationships. Being socially conscious is what is needed in the youth today. Let us save the resources for the upcoming generations, and use them sensibly and economically. Believe in yourself and face all the fears with confidence. Be generous, work with a team and render your guidance wherever needed. We definitely require great leaders for our nation. Let you be one!
