Dr. Pankaj Rawal embodies a valuable combination of academics along with more than two decades of experience in various Industries. A Ph.D. from Aligarh Muslim University, with a specialization in Marketing, he has also received a B. Tech degree from NIT Kurukshetra. He has worked with the industry in the domain of Business Development, Sales and distribution, Channel Management, and Sales Support with some of the top organizations such as Blue Star Ltd, Elf Lubricants, Total Energies, Airtel, Reliance Communications, Tata Teleservices and MTS. Dr. Rawal merges his keen interest and experience in the sales and distribution function with academics and likes to conduct impactful workshops for the same.

What should be your institute’s top priority over the next ten years?

The institute should aim to be known as one of the prime institutes with a focus on research, providing application-based knowledge, having top international accreditations, and a strong socially and environmentally conscious global leader as its alumni.


When you first came to IMS Ghaziabad what was your vision for the Institute? Has it evolved, and how far along in implementing that vision are you?

I have more than 20 years of work experience in corporate. When I joined IMS Ghaziabad, my vision for contribution to the learning of students was leveraging my experience and providing students with a blend of academic knowledge with real-life scenarios. I am glad that my vision resonated with the institute’s vision. After joining, my vision has evolved and become ambitious; we are looking at industry collaborations in many dimensions.


What would you like people to know about your Institute they may not know?

The institute has a legacy of 34 years in providing higher education. Each member of the institute is passionate and dedicated to providing a great learning experience for students and helping them achieve their goals.


What do you see as IMS Ghaziabad’s greatest strengths?

Exceptional leadership, dedicated and aligned team working passionately for reaching greater heights and a quantum jump in higher education in management, a strong corporate resource center enabling excellent placements.


What are some of the biggest challenges you see for higher education in general, and for IMS Ghaziabad specifically?

Rapid technological innovations are rendering traditional knowledge systems obsolete. Algorithms and microchips can perform many tasks, which means a shift in the workforce requirements. We must be swift in realigning ourselves. However, no challenge is big enough when a passionate team is facing it.

Any suggestions you would like to give to the current youth and the aspiring students?

I feel that students should make the best of their available time during their graduation and develop themselves, invest time to learn more about the professional world, add unique skills, etc. to get an advantage in the future. As they move forward in life, there will always be challenges in managing time for these activities, the best time is now.


How do you tend to establish a healthy relationship and environment in your institute?

A positive environment encourages everyone to focus on their respective responsibilities and support their colleagues. The institute’s environment is transparent, which stimulates healthy relationships.


With the competition so high, how do you guide your students to survive in such a competitive scenario?

It’s the training. We train our students to be winners. We encourage healthy competition in all classes and out of the class activities. We prepare them with rigor of academics, activities, events, and lots of competitions.


What are the challenges you faced/ are facing to uplift the quality of education in your department?

Quality of education also means how much students can grasp the concepts and apply these in business situations. The challenge is the shortening of attention spans and distractions. We use multiple pedagogies in the classes which include making students do something in class for example simulations, keeping class interactive by bringing in lively case discussions, and engaging students by using audio-video tools too.


How does the curriculum of your department/ college ensure the best the practice of the industry?

We keep refining the curriculum by benchmarking with some of the top programs, and industry feedback.

How does the department/ college/ enhance the skills of the faculty and prepare them according to the industry standards?

We go through multiple faculty development programs and industry expert talks in our institute. The institute also encourages faculty members to visit industry, attend research and other business conferences, and engage in consulting projects to enhance their skills.


What are the interventions and approaches you bring in apart from the curriculum to train/ teach the students?

Students undergo industry visits, attend business and other events such as events organized by The chamber of commerce, do simulations, and listen to talks by industry experts. We want our students to be industry-ready and have an application-based approach along with a good grasp of concepts.
