You have held key positions at education institutes throughout your professional career. What are the key factors that keep you connected with the education sector?

Some of the key factors of the education sector that motivate me to work in it are spreading information literacy, teaching students to apply their talents in a better way, and providing equal access to education. Being able to exchange experiences between teachers and individualization education, along with high learning productivity inspires me to teach. At the same time, employee satisfaction and involvement in upgrading an institute's status in terms of accreditation by designated assessment bodies play a key role. As an educator, I don’t just teach students, I also have to keep upskilling and learn the current trends.

Being the Vice-Principal of Sree Rama Engineering College what is your philosophy of leadership? How would you describe your leadership style?

A strong leadership philosophy is key to successfully running a team, organization, or business. When your leadership style is rooted in a strong set of values and principles, you’ll remain committed to your goals, and you’ll be more likely to motivate and inspire your employees on a regular basis. According to me, if transparency is maintained strictly in all administrative issues, reaching goals is not a difficulty.

Being the Vice-Principal of Sree Rama Engineering College, how do you strategize about the key programs and plans for the marketing and administration of your school?

The strategy that we follow is a different approach. We have published ads in newspapers, we run video ads on local television channels, YouTube, Facebook and Instagram. Updating and exhibiting all activities and achievements through the college website are the best choices that we use for marketing our institute.

The education systems in India and other foreign countries are structured very differently. In your experience, what can an inbound student gain from studying here in your university?

Students in India have to study according to the norms provided by the state and the Central Government of India. However, competition in the education sector is very high due to the population explosion in India, unlike in other countries. In CIET, we have state-of-the-art laboratories to ensure the all-round development of the inbound students and extend job-oriented practical education for their complete development. Students are given extra attention besides academics, and we drive them to become successful. I feel that in India we need to encourage students to complete mandatory internships and relevant part-time jobs to gain hands-on experience.

How does the curriculum of Sree Rama Engineering College ensure the best practice of industry?

As an autonomous college, we have the flexibility to design the curriculum based on the industry’s needs. Our board of studies also helps us frame the curriculum based on current needs. The curriculum is effectively designed and regularly updated. We are implementing effective teaching-learning methodologies and also adopting relevant and latest issues by having MOUs with industries.

Any insights into how your university could be more welcoming to students of different races or economic backgrounds?

The Government is providing scholarships and full fee reimbursement to economically weak students as per the prescribed eligibility that we accept. This enables the students to effectively enrich their knowledge and skills and attain their targets in education. The college management also provides scholarships to meritorious students based on their performance.

What do you think your roles and responsibilities to the University and the students are?

I ensure that all of our students here get a lot of opportunities and stay up-to-date in the changing environment. We have to give them training on the latest technologies that are present now. I believe that we have succeeded significantly in that. I believe that along with the theoretical knowledge in books and classrooms, one also needs to be aware of practical knowledge.

What do you think should be the institute’s top priority over the next 10 years?

The top priority of college, over the next decade, should be to emphasize the use of ICT tools in teaching and learning. The priority also lies in implementing the new education policies. More research-oriented projects should be undertaken by faculty and students. We will continue meeting the localization strategy for our students as well as furnishing the choices that they require for their overall personality development.

When you first came to Sree Rama Engineering College, what was your vision for the university? Has it evolved over time, and how far along in implementing that vision are you?

My vision for college was that it should offer elective technical subjects to students. Over the years, I now feel that students should undertake research-oriented and innovative projects right from the second year. We succeeded in this regard. A lot of changes are made to the curriculum according to current needs.

What would you like people to know about your university they may not know?

I want to let all parents, students and other stakeholders know that we are offering the CRT programs from the second year onwards. We are also working hard towards preparing our students to be industry ready. The college is accredited by UGC 2(f), autonomous, ISO, NAAC and NBA. For every branch, there are student associations who are working for the overall development of the students.

What do you see as Sree Rama Engineering College's greatest strengths?

Our major potentiality is that 80% of the students studying here come from rural backgrounds and from regional medium backgrounds. As a result of consistent training programs, they are able to achieve campus placements. Good infrastructure, state of art labs, transportation, affordable hostel facilities, and adopting hi-tech methods in the teaching-learning process are our strengths.

What are some of the biggest challenges you see, both for higher education in general and for Sree Rama Engineering College specifically?

Many of our students come from rural backgrounds. They lack proper communication skills and are behind their peers. We have to work hard to make them industry-ready. Another problem we are facing is that we don’t have any industries around us for student visits or to show practical working models to students. However, we are working hard to solve these issues.

Any suggestions you would like to give to the current youth and the aspiring students?

Students have to give importance to bookish knowledge as well as practical knowledge. They have to put more emphasis on coding skills and polishing them up before sitting for placements. I would suggest that people should put themselves into the field they are more interested in and have the zeal to achieve their goals.

How do you tend to establish a healthy relationships and environment in your institute/ university?

We intend for all of our students to participate in all the academic, administrative and extracurricular activities held at our college and in other colleges. We invite experts from the university for guest lectures, seminars, webinars, FDPs, hackthons and workshops. These activities and programs increase interaction between students and the faculty and enable them to work together while also helping with knowledge exchange.
