Field of Study:
$1,194 /Yr
Civil engineers deal with the planning, design, manufacture, and operation of structures in the field of civil engineering, transport, and hydraulic engineering. The course in the Bachelor's degree in "Structural Engineering" initially provides general engineering, mathematical and scientific training.
In the core area, the classic structural subjects such as statics, concrete, and steel construction are taught. With this hand tool, the essential problems of buildings can be solved. The basics of the foundation of structures and soil mechanics are the subject of geotechnics. In addition to internationally valid construction laws, students also get to know national regulations and standards.
The area of construction provides intensive knowledge of the handling of large construction projects, including the entire field of quality assurance and economic aspects (controlling).
Environmental engineering and in-depth scientific aspects are taught in the urban water management and hydraulic engineering modules. Dealing with water is the focus of the University of Duisburg-Essen and part of numerous Bachelor and Master courses. The interdisciplinary, ecologically oriented approach of the courses has its roots in the Ruhr area. The international orientation will help students to constructively cope with environmental problems in their countries.
The entire field of construction science is becoming increasingly international. The participation of German companies in international construction projects is an economic factor. The international orientation of the course will make it much easier for foreign students to study. Graduates have numerous employment opportunities both nationally and internationally. The currently flourishing building construction, especially in the foreign metropolises, but also the prospering environmental technology offer a secure job market worldwide in the long term.
