Technical University Darmstadt offers 13+ scholarships, of which 9+ are accessible to Indian applicants. Awards range from EUR 250 per month (INR 27,679) up to salaried PhD contracts worth INR 36.53 Lakhs per year.

The university charges zero tuition across public degree programs, so scholarships here cover living costs, not fees. Most Indian students layer a monthly award over the standard semester contribution of INR 42,364.

  • Standard tuition (public programs): EUR 0 (INR 0). Semester contribution EUR 382.68 (INR 42,364) applies each term.
  • With semester-fee waiver: No blanket waiver exists. Deutschlandstipendium holders still pay the semester contribution.
  • With scholarship plus fee combo: Deutschlandstipendium (EUR 300/month) offsets EUR 3,600 (INR 3.99 Lakhs) of yearly living cost; DAAD Study Scholarship (EUR 992/month) covers INR 11.90 Lakhs annually.
  • Next actionable deadline: Deutschlandstipendium 2026/27 application window, September 21 to October 18, 2026 (confirmed).

Currency Note: All INR conversions use the live rate of 1 EUR = INR 110.71 as of September 2026. Amounts above INR 1 Lakh use Lakhs; smaller figures use raw INR.

Reddit Insight: Indian applicants on r/germany report the DAAD Study Scholarship acceptance rate from India sits near 8 percent. Most treat Deutschlandstipendium as their post-enrolment backup for the second year.

The Technical University Darmstadt MS Programs catalog shows which Master’s tracks map to DAAD EPOS eligibility, since only development-relevant fields qualify.

India-Specific Scholarships at Technical University Darmstadt

5 India-based foundation grants supplement the tuition-free base at Darmstadt for Indian nationals. These awards typically bridge travel, living, and semester-contribution gaps that DAAD does not cover.

Aga Khan Foundation International Scholarship50 percent grant, 50 percent loan covering tuition and living stipendIndian nationals under 30, verified financial need, admit letter to Darmstadt, no other funding secured.Tentative March 31, 2027

Only Inlaks disburses outright grant money. The other four are structured as low-interest loans, so read repayment clauses carefully before you sign.

Stacking rules matter here. Inlaks bars parallel funding above USD 8,000 per year, and DAAD prohibits combining with another full stipend. Verify with each foundation before accepting a second award.

Technical University Darmstadt PhD Scholarships

Darmstadt funds 4 doctoral tracks through salaried research contracts, not stipends alone. A TV-L E13 65 percent contract (Germany’s public-sector academic pay grade at part-time rate) pays roughly EUR 2,750 gross per month. That is INR 3.04 Lakhs monthly, or INR 36.53 Lakhs per year.

Indian doctoral aspirants usually split effort across three routes:

  • Direct supervisor pitch for a chair-funded or DFG-linked E13 contract with the highest take-home pay.
  • DAAD Research Grant for portable funding tied to an independently written proposal.
  • Political foundation route (Konrad Adenauer, Friedrich-Ebert, Heinrich Boell) for cohort-based support with strong networking value.

Cold-emailing professors early beats waiting for advertised calls. The Technical University Darmstadt Ranking page lists the strongest departments to shortlist. Computer Science, Mechanical Engineering, and Physics run the largest DFG project pipeline.

External Government Scholarships for Technical University Darmstadt Applicants

7 external routes exist beyond university-run funding. These awards accept a Darmstadt admit letter as the anchoring credential and can be stacked with the semester-fee waiver rules noted earlier.

Reddit Insight: Indian r/germany users flag that KOSPIE India applicants from IIT Madras or IIT Delhi routinely land Darmstadt exchanges. A departmental nomination and CGPA above 8.0 is usually enough.

Political-foundation awards (Konrad Adenauer, Friedrich-Ebert) reward civic engagement more than raw grades. Applicants with student politics, NGO, or unionised extracurricular records often outperform pure academic profiles.

Technical University Darmstadt Scholarships: Frequently Asked Questions

Ques. What is the maximum scholarship stack an Indian Master’s student can secure at Technical University Darmstadt?

Ans. The realistic ceiling is DAAD Study Scholarship (EUR 992/month) plus Deutschlandstipendium (EUR 300/month), yielding EUR 1,292/month or INR 1.43 Lakhs monthly. Over 12 months this equals INR 17.16 Lakhs. That covers Darmstadt’s living band of EUR 900 to EUR 1,000 monthly plus the semester contribution. Stacking is allowed because Deutschlandstipendium can be paused during a DAAD funding period, then resumed after.

Ques. When should Indian applicants apply for the Deutschlandstipendium and when do decisions arrive?

Ans. The 2026/27 window runs from September 21 to October 18, 2026, and funding starts October 1 of the same academic year. Decisions typically reach applicants by late November or early December. Indian students must be enrolled at Darmstadt before they apply, so plan the Deutschlandstipendium as a second-semester award, not a pre-admission scholarship.

Ques. Do I apply for scholarships at Technical University Darmstadt separately or alongside my admission form?

Ans. Almost every award requires a separate application through its own portal. The DAAD Study Scholarship uses the DAAD MyPortal, EPOS goes through the participating Master’s course office, and Deutschlandstipendium uses the TU Darmstadt online form. Admission is a prerequisite for university-run awards but not for external DAAD, KAS, or FES tracks, which accept a conditional offer letter or applicant status.

Ques. What CGPA does DAAD look for from Indian applicants targeting Technical University Darmstadt?

Ans. DAAD Study Scholarship candidates from India typically clear 8.5/10 CGPA or 85 percent aggregate as the working threshold. Selection panels also weigh statement of purpose quality, two academic references, and subject fit with a Darmstadt professor. EPOS applicants can offset a slightly lower CGPA (around 7.5/10) with two or more years of relevant work in a development context.

Ques. Does the Deutschlandstipendium cover rent in Darmstadt?

Ans. The EUR 300 monthly award covers a shared-room rent (WG-Zimmer) in Darmstadt, which averages EUR 350 to EUR 450. It falls short for a solo studio flat, which starts around EUR 550 in the Stadtmitte area. Most Indian Deutschlandstipendium holders pair the grant with part-time HiWi (student-assistant) roles paying EUR 12 to EUR 15 per hour to close the gap.

Ques. How does the Scholarship for More Equal Opportunities differ from Deutschlandstipendium?

Ans. The Equal Opportunities award pays EUR 500 per month for six months (INR 3.32 Lakhs total) and is need-based, not merit-first. It targets international students facing documented challenges like caregiving duties, health issues, or family income shocks. Deutschlandstipendium pays less monthly (EUR 300) but runs for two semesters minimum and is renewable, making it the higher lifetime payout for strong academic profiles.

Ques. What is HessenFonds and can Indian degree-seeking students apply?

Ans. HessenFonds is a Hesse-state programme funding refugees and asylum-eligible individuals, paying students EUR 300, PhDs EUR 1,200, and researchers EUR 2,300 per month. Standard Indian degree-seeking applicants without refugee status are not eligible. Indian applicants already in Germany under humanitarian residence status for four to five years or less can apply by the July 31 annual deadline.

  • I did not receive any scholarships. There are different types of scholarship that will be provided by outsiders. College doesn't provide any scholarships. One of my friends received the Deutschland stipendium, which is 300 euros per month. It will be provided for up to 2 years. Mostly, this was given based on the scores in Btech, and this is the only scholarship that Indians can get.

  • ? I find accommodations through the WG-Gesucht app off campus. My monthly rent is 420 euro per month including internet bill and facilities like washing machine, dishwasher, internet, kitchen, bathrrom , bed are provided.
  • Finding accommodation is not so easy. I couldn't get near college; I am staying 40 minutes away from college. Most problems would be common sharing and more people sharing the same kitchen and washroom.
  • Yes, I recommend joining WhatsApp, Instagram, and Facebook groups for accommodation and using online apps like WG-Gesucht and Kleinanzeigen for searching and to apply for student dorms.
  • Most Indians stay around colleges like Dieburg and Darmstadt.

  • Finding an accommodation is the most difficult situation in Germany due to a lack of housing for students. Also, it is quite impossible for students to stay as a sublet tenant for a longer duration since one needs to register themselves at the municipality to notify the authorities of their stay. This is a crucial step in order to proceed with opening your bank account, receiving your health card insurance or even getting a SIM card with a contract.
  • Easier ways to find accommodations are through WhatsApp groups or the best way is to find them through platforms such as WG gesucht and immoscout 24,.

  • I don't have any scholarship and I dont have any  idea about this.

  • Yes,i used student dorm portal called https://studierendenwerkdarmstadt.de/wohnservice/wohnheime/, I applied online and i sent emails to them
  • 320 euros,2 shared room and fully furnished room
  • The thing is its very difficult to get accommodation in Darmstadt although it is student city.it is suggestible to search accommodations around the darmstadt for eg.Dieburg, gross gerau, rosedorf and seeheim like that.
  • It very important to post in social media groups like indians in darmstadt face book groups, and search for the temporary accommodations like sublets
  • My room is 1 km from the university it is 10 mins walk to from my room.most of the indians stay in private student dorms or in Dieburg and Rosedorf cities
