The Technical University of Darmstadt is a well-known public university in Germany, recognised for its strong focus on engineering, computer science, and research-oriented education for international students. The university offers two main intakes: Winter (primary intake) and Summer intake. The Winter semester starts in October, while the Summer semester begins in April. Most programs, especially at the master’s level, are available in the Winter intake, while the Summer intake has limited course options.

For admission to the Technical University of Darmstadt, Indian students must meet the German education system requirements. For bachelor’s programs, students may need to complete a Studienkolleg or one year of university study in India due to the 13-year schooling system difference. For master’s programs, applicants must have a relevant bachelor’s degree with strong subject alignment and typically 180 credits in a bachelor's degree.

After submission, the university evaluates applications based on academic eligibility, subject fit, and required documents. If selected, students receive an admission offer, after which they must pay the semester contribution of €382.68 (₹42,307) to confirm enrollment and proceed with visa formalities.

Students also need to submit the APS certificate, which is mandatory for Indian applicants. After receiving the admission offer, they can proceed with the student visa application, which may take around 2 - 3 months to process. Therefore, students are advised to plan their timeline carefully and apply early to avoid delays in enrollment and travel prep.

Technical University Darmstadt Popular Courses and Tips For Indian Students

Technical University Darmstadt offers various courses for both bachelor’s and master’s students. Indian students planning to study there may need to provide proof of German language proficiency, as most of the courses are taught in German. However, some courses are taught in English, so students need to submit English language proficiency test scores.

The table below lists some of the popular courses along with useful tips for Indian students.

Courses Course Language Duration Tips For Indian Students
MS Computer Science English 2 Year Very competitive, ensure strong programming with a maths background.
Apply early for the Winter intake.
MS Electrical Engineering and Information Technology English / German 2 Year Check the specialisation language carefully.
Basic German helps in labs & internships.
MS IT Security English 2 Year One of TU Darmstadt’s strongest programs.
Focus on cybersecurity basics before applying.
BS Computer Science German 3 Year German-taught; you need at least B2/C1 German.
Not ideal without language prep.
BS Computational Engineering German 3 Year Strong focus on maths and simulation.
German proficiency mandatory.

Note: Germany follows a 13-year education system, whereas in India, there are only 12 years of schooling before a bachelor’s degree. Therefore, Indian students planning to study in Germany must either complete one year of study at a recognised university in India or attend a Studienkolleg (a one-year preparatory course in Germany). After completing either of these, students become eligible to apply for a bachelor’s degree in Germany.

Scholarship

  • I did not receive any scholarships. There are different types of scholarship that will be provided by outsiders. College doesn't provide any scholarships. One of my friends received the Deutschland stipendium, which is 300 euros per month. It will be provided for up to 2 years. Mostly, this was given based on the scores in Btech, and this is the only scholarship that Indians can get.
