ESMT Berlin admissions run rolling round-based intake across 3 master’s tracks, three MBA formats, and a jointly delivered PhD. The school admits only postgraduate students, so the eligibility floor starts at a Bachelor’s with strong grades for master’s applicants, and rises to three years of postgraduate work experience for the full-time MBA and seven years for the Executive MBA.
- Next live deadline is July 31, 2026 for the Master in Management (MIM), Master in Analytics and AI (MAAI), and Master in Innovation and Entrepreneurship (MIE), which form the September 2026 primary intake.
- Master’s base tuition is EUR 36,000 (around INR 39.27 Lakhs) with an application fee of EUR 75 (around INR 8,182).
- Master’s eligibility is a Bachelor’s with excellent grades of about 65 percent or higher plus IELTS 7.0 or TOEFL iBT 95, with an English test waiver available.
- MBA acceptance rate is estimated at 16 to 30 percent, based on a capped cohort of about 70 seats and independent class-profile reporting since ESMT does not publish an official institutional figure.
The Master in Global Management, full-time MBA, and Master in Analytics and AI draw the most Indian interest, and Indian alumni consistently rate the small class sizes and industry-linked capstones as decision drivers. ESMT Berlin Eligibility Requirements
ESMT Berlin admits only postgraduate students, so every applicant clears a Bachelor’s-level academic floor plus an English proficiency threshold. MBA tracks add a work-experience minimum on top. The programmes accept multiple standardised tests, and English requirements can be waived on qualifying pathways.
ESMT Berlin Academic Minimums by Programme
- Master’s (MIM, MAAI, MIE): Bachelor’s with excellent grades, typically 65 to 70 percent or higher for Indian applicants.
- Full-time MBA: Bachelor’s plus 3 years of postgraduate work experience. Competitive GMAT 640+ or GRE 320+ recommended.
- Executive MBA: Bachelor’s plus 7 years of postgraduate experience, of which three are managerial.
- Global Online MBA: Bachelor’s plus 3 years of postgraduate experience.
- PhD: Master’s in Economics, Business, engineering, statistics, or a quantitative social science with excellent grades.
ESMT Berlin English Proficiency Requirements
| Test | Minimum Score |
|---|---|
| IELTS Academic | 7.0 overall |
| TOEFL iBT | 95 (5.0 minimum per section under 2026 scoring) |
| PTE Academic | 64 (MBA tracks) |
| TOEIC | 850 (master’s tracks) |
Does ESMT Berlin waive IELTS for Indian students?
Yes. ESMT waives the English test if you completed your Bachelor’s or Master’s entirely in English, which covers most English-medium degrees from Indian universities. Native English speakers also qualify. Full-time MBA applicants can additionally waive on 12 months or more of work in an English-speaking environment. Interviewers still assess English at CEFR B2 upper-intermediate level regardless of waiver status.
Insider note: Most Indian applicants qualify via the English-medium Bachelor’s route. Ask your Indian university registrar for a Medium of Instruction (MOI) letter and attach it to the application rather than booking an IELTS slot.

ESMT Berlin Master’s Programmes Admissions
ESMT runs three pre-experience master’s programmes, all 24 months long and taught in English. Each carries a base tuition of EUR 36,000 (around INR 39.27 Lakhs) paid in three installments over two years, per the ESMT master’s financing page. For a course-wise view alongside living costs and scholarships, see the detailed fee breakdown.
| Programme | Duration | Minimum Eligibility | English Req. Min. |
|---|---|---|---|
| Master in Global Management (MIM) | 24 months | Bachelor’s with excellent grades and less than 24 months post-graduate work experience | IELTS 7.0 / TOEFL iBT 95 |
| Master in Analytics and Artificial Intelligence (MAAI) | 24 months | Bachelor’s with strong quantitative coursework or a STEM degree, 0 to 3 years experience | IELTS 7.0 / TOEFL iBT 95 |
| Master in Innovation and Entrepreneurship (MIE) | 24 months | Bachelor’s with strong grades, 0 to 3 years post-graduate experience | IELTS 7.0 / TOEFL iBT 95 |
All three programmes review applications on a rolling first-come basis regardless of round. GMAT or GRE is optional if you can evidence strong quantitative grades or a STEM Bachelor’s. The ESMT Business Admissions Test (BAT), the school’s in-house quantitative test, is an accepted alternative. Admitted candidates who applied by January 31 received a EUR 4,000 (around INR 4.36 Lakhs) tuition discount, and that window has closed for the September 2026 cycle.
Note: Programme-specific entry requirements, fees, and intake availability may differ from the institution-wide minimums shown above. Always confirm on the official ESMT master’s page for your chosen programme before applying.

ESMT Berlin MBA Admissions
ESMT runs three MBA tracks that all require postgraduate work experience. The 12-month full-time MBA opens for January 2027, while the 3-year part-time Executive MBA and the Global Online MBA both start October 2026. All three accept GMAT, GRE, GMAC Executive Assessment, or the ESMT Business Admissions Test (BAT). For placement medians and Indian alumni stats, see the Master of Business Administration course page.
ESMT Berlin Full-time MBA
The full-time MBA runs eight rolling rounds for the January 2027 intake. Round 5 closes July 31, 2026, and four rounds stay open through December 8, 2026. Base tuition is EUR 50,000 (around INR 54.55 Lakhs) covering books, materials, and the Smart Certificate digital credential. The EUR 1,500 (around INR 1.64 Lakhs) early-application award tied to Round 4 has already closed for this cycle.
ESMT Berlin Executive MBA
The Executive MBA is a part-time 3-year programme with an October 2026 start. It requires seven years of postgraduate experience, three of which are managerial. Round 5 closes July 31, 2026, and Round 6 (space-available) closes September 15, 2026. Base tuition is EUR 64,800 (around INR 70.69 Lakhs) paid in three installments across October 2026, February 2027, and January 2028, plus a EUR 4,000 (around INR 4.36 Lakhs) non-refundable seat deposit.
How much does the ESMT Berlin Online MBA cost?
The Global Online MBA is delivered fully online with an October 19, 2026 start and requires 3 years of postgraduate experience. The next deadline is July 31, 2026. Base tuition is EUR 28,000 (around INR 30.55 Lakhs) covering the learning platform, case licences, and Smart Certificate. The application fee is EUR 50 (around INR 5,455).
ESMT Berlin MBA Interview Process
All shortlisted MBA candidates sit a 40 to 50 minute admissions interview on campus or via Zoom, held one to two weeks after each round closes. The panel probes leadership stories, quantitative reasoning, and English fluency at CEFR B2 upper-intermediate level. Full-time MBA cohorts are capped at about 70 seats per year, so the interview carries a large share of the admit decision.
Insider note: Indian applicants without a GMAT should not default to the BAT. A strong GRE with a 165+ quant is treated as equivalent, and the BAT does not carry the same signal with recruiters at the end of the programme.

Research assistant contracts follow German public-sector TV-L E13 academic-staff pay bands, and ESMT covers conference travel plus international research visits.
Planning note: The BSoE application is separate from apply.esmt.berlin, so use the BSoE portal for the PhD. Email Info@esmt.org early to confirm faculty capacity in your research area before drafting your research proposal.

All ESMT degree applications flow through a single portal at apply.esmt.berlin, with rolling round-based review across master’s and MBA tracks. ESMT Berlin Acceptance Rate
ESMT does not publish an official institutional acceptance rate. Independent estimates place the full-time MBA at 16 to 30 percent, reflecting a capped cohort of about 70 seats per year and a GMAT median of 640 to 650. Master’s admits skew higher at an estimated 35 to 45 percent, since cohorts are larger and applicant pools are less selective than at the MBA level.
ESMT Berlin Selectivity by Programme
- Full-time MBA: estimated 16 to 30 percent, based on the 70-seat cap and independent class-profile reporting.
- Executive MBA: higher acceptance, since the seven-year experience floor is self-selecting.
- Master’s programmes: estimated 35 to 45 percent, with the quant-heavy MAAI the most selective of the three.
- PhD: single-digit acceptance, since each supervisor takes at most one candidate per cycle.
ESMT Berlin Indian Applicant Profile
Indian nationals make up about 12 to 15 percent of a typical MBA cohort, second only to German applicants. To benchmark ESMT’s selectivity against peer schools, compare its ranking band. ESMT sits in the FT European Business Schools top 15, which frames its selectivity against European rivals like HEC Paris and IESE.
Insider note: Indian MBA admits at ESMT trend heavily toward engineering plus 4 to 6 years of technology or consulting experience. IIT and NIT engineers, Big 4 consultants, and Bengaluru product managers are the most represented Indian profiles.
Germany Student Visa for ESMT Berlin
Indian admits to ESMT need a German National Visa Type D for study, granted by the German consulate in New Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Kolkata, or Bengaluru. Book the visa slot as soon as your ESMT offer letter arrives, since appointment lead times run 6 to 10 weeks in peak season. Required financial proof is a Sperrkonto blocked account holding EUR 11,904 (around INR 12.98 Lakhs) for one year, or a scholarship letter of equivalent value. Indian applicants also need an Akademische Prüfstelle (APS) certificate for their visa file, so start that verification early. On arrival in Berlin, complete Anmeldung address registration within 14 days and then apply for a residence permit at the Ausländerbehörde foreigners’ office before your Type D visa expires.
2026 update: Germany raised the blocked-account minimum to EUR 11,904 (around INR 12.98 Lakhs) for the 2026 academic year, up from EUR 11,208 (around INR 12.22 Lakhs). Confirm the current threshold on the German Missions in India website before opening your Sperrkonto.
Tips for ESMT Berlin Admissions
The following tips are drawn from Indian-applicant patterns at ESMT Berlin and match what admissions officers publicly emphasise in class-profile briefings.
- Target Round 5 or earlier if you need a visa. Round 6 leaves under 6 weeks for consulate processing, which is too tight for Indian slots.
- Use the MOI letter waiver to skip IELTS if your Bachelor’s was English-medium. ESMT accepts university registrar letters as proof.
- Quant story matters more than GMAT for master’s. If your Bachelor’s has 60 percent or higher in Mathematics, Statistics, or Economics, request the test waiver.
- Interview prep should focus on leadership stories. The panel emphasises people-management scenarios over case-cracking mechanics.
- Open a Sperrkonto by early August with Fintiba, Coracle, or Expatrio to avoid September visa-file bottlenecks.
- Visit campus in person to unlock a EUR 150 (around INR 16,364) tuition discount at enrollment.
- Read the Indian student reviews before drafting your essays to sharpen fit signalling.

One of the best parts was how ESMT helps you connect with industry and the alumni. This has helped me to learn a lot and advance in my career.

- ESMT Berlin is a very reputed university in Germany often in the top 10 rankings. Most of the graduates find jobs within 3 months of graduation. The curriculum is also carefully designed depending on industry requirements since all the founders of the university are Large German corporations.
- The campus and diversity of student really adds to the experience. The quality of education is really good as compared to Indian universities. There is also lot of options for extracurricular activities during the program which also adds to the non academic experience.
Dislikes
- The course was designed for general management focus and there was no focus on advanced topics such as Machine learning, analytics etc. However, now they have changed the course and there is now a dedicated Masters in AI and Machine Learning which is a good improvement.
Overview
Overall it was a very good experience, the diversity at the university was also very good with around 37 nationalities represented. The courses were also fun and engaging. Post graduation career support is also a huge plus point.
Scholarship
Yes, the early bird scholarship. The only criteria was to apply early to the program. I think this has been removed now.
