Germany Opportunity Card is a short-term residence permit that allows qualified professionals from non-EU countries to stay in Germany for up to 1 year to search for employment, with the option to work part-time (up to 20 hours/week) or trial jobs during your stay.

Note: The former Germany Job Seeker Visa is now limited to those already in Germany, like recent graduates, for up to 6 months of job search without work rights.) If you find a job within this time, you can switch to a Germany Work Visa or EU Blue Card and start your professional career in Germany.

Germany Opportunity Card requirements are similar to German Study Visa requirements. You need to submit a valid passport copy, accommodation proof, financial documents, health insurance, and other documents. The cost of a German Opportunity Card is €75 (6,825 INR).

But what if you could not find a job in 1 year? Then you can consider extending via the points system or transitioning to other permits like the EU Blue Card.

Important Considerations for Indians Applying for Germany Opportunity Card

Consider the following points while you apply for a Germany Opportunity Card.

  • Application Center: Apply at your nearest German embassy, consulate, or another visa application center in India.
  • Processing Time: It takes 2 weeks to 6 months to process your German Opportunity Card application (4-6 weeks for limited Job Seeker Visa). Depending on the embassy and the application status, it may take longer.
  • Visa Validity: The Opportunity Card is valid for 1 year (extendable up to 2 more years); the limited Job Seeker Visa is valid for 6 months and cannot be extended. If you don’t find a job within this time, you will have to return home or apply for an extension/other permits.
