Which Degrees Are Exempt from dMAT?

The classification runs by discipline group, not by the shorthand degree name on the marksheet. If the discipline column on the transcript reads outside the three named groups, then dMAT does not apply. That means the APS bundle without a dMAT certificate is accepted for that cycle.

Who Actually Needs to Take dMAT

Only Indian master’s applicants with a bachelor’s in engineering, commerce, finance, economics, business or management, applying for Summer Semester 2027 or later, sit inside the dMAT net. Three degree groups fall in scope:

Every applicant who ticks all three boxes below must sit dMAT:

1. Intake: Summer Semester 2027 or later.
2. Field: Bachelor’s on the affected-fields list.
3. APS status: Registration opened on or after June 29, 2026, or documents shipped on or after that date.

Missing any single one collapses the requirement. Winter Semester 2026/27 applicants sit outside the timeline. Fields outside the list sit outside the scope. Anyone with an APS process already in motion before June 29, 2026 falls under a transitional exemption.

What dMAT gives you if you are inside the net: a cognitive-skills score from 0 to 200 (average 100) plus a percentile rank. What dMAT does not cover: your subject knowledge, your English proficiency, your APS academic verification or your German visa file. Bachelor’s and PhD Applicants Skip dMAT

• Standard APS document set (Class 10, Class 12, bachelor’s transcripts).

If the exchange programme carries an official group number, then the dMAT step is skipped. That means a single coordinator letter replaces the test certificate line in the APS bundle.

June 29 2026 dMAT Timing Cutoff

Any Indian applicant who completed APS online registration or shipped complete APS documents before June 29, 2026 is exempt from dMAT for that APS procedure. The cutoff is written as a transitional rule to protect applicants already mid-cycle when the requirement was announced.
