- Breaking ice with french students was an arduous task for me.
Colleges Where I Was Accepted
Reason for choosing my college
- Rennes School of Business allowed me to take up Digital Marketing as my major, and the college had a rich cohort of students from France as well as other parts of Europe, along with students from Asia and the Americas.
- The faculty was diverse, and some of the teachers were truly memorable in terms of their knowledge and the ability to impart that knowledge. Rennes is well connected to Paris (about 4-5 hrs by Train), and the college allows windows to explore traveling in Europe.
- The campus was very decent, with 4 buildings spread across a medium-sized campus. With regard to Placements, the vast majority of students are able to secure good jobs with decent pay. The college cultural life was rich as well.
Colleges Where I Was Rejected
Reason for Rejection
- Limited work experience, as I was a fresher straight out of IIT Bombay, meant my application was lower on the priority list of the aforementioned B-schools, as they usually prefer candidates with a minimum of 2-3 years of work experience.

Tips to enhance your application
- Quantifiable results for past projects in college or work are a big plus.
- Relevant Club Experience, Previous International exposure may help.
- Certifications such as CFA/Language etc can help one stand out.
Admission Experience
- France has a good reputation with regard to its MBA programs, as most B-schools feature among the best on the continent. Additionally, France is well connected to all the major countries of the continent, making it ideal to explore Europe.
- RSB has triple accreditation (for reference, only 4 business schools have triple accreditation in India). Additionally, RSB ranks among the top 50 in Europe (FT) as well as the top 150 business schools worldwide (QS Rankings). Placement record is decent and the admission criteria are less stringent compared to some other business schools of similar ranking.
- Diversity of courses offered is high, with niche programs such as a master's in Digital Marketing, Luxury Marketing, Geopolitics, International finance and so on.
- Rennes is well-connected to Paris (as well as all other major cities in France) and as the capital of the western state of Brittany, it is a cultural and historical city with vibrant city life.
- Placement record is good, with a large number of students being able to secure decent-paying jobs in similar or related fields of study.
- Academically, I was able to secure a high GPA, as teaching was largely of good quality, and most exam papers were predictable based on class content and the teaching style of professors. Group projects also played a key role in securing good grades in a number of courses.
- With regard to extracurriculars, the college has a large number of clubs, although breaking the ice with such a vastly diverse crowd of students can be a daunting task at times. However, with persistence, one can definitely have a memorable time in RSB.
Class Schedule
- Usually 12-15 Classes a week; most classes start in the morning around 9 am and usually all classes are wrapped up by 4 pm. Average strength of each class varies between 30 and 70, as far as I can remember.
- Around 15% of Indians on average per course. Self-study at home would usually require 3-4 hours.
Faculty
- Professor for Database for e-CRM was one of the best faculty I have come across. His experience (such as consulting for the French Education Ministry), coupled with his unique pedagogical experience, is a memory to cherish forever.
- Most faculties were well-trained for their academic careers and professionalism was exhibited (for instance, the Professor for Managing Consumer Behavior was impeccable with her course teaching method.) Professor was E-Commerce Management was an American who had an exceptional teaching style and vast depth of knowledge.
Campus Life
- College is spread across 4 campuses, which are quite close (~10-15 mins by walk). Library was functional but not great. School canteen was of decent quality.
- Get-togethers by our MBA students for city walks/wine village tours/club visits were memorable. Group projects facilitated intermingling of students from diverse backgrounds.
Part Time Jobs
- Part-time work has 2 aspects:
- On-campus opportunities—rare to come by—include student ambassador roles and library or IT Assistance
- Off-campus opportunities – University provides assistance through University career services, which offer local job listings.
- This cell also offers guidance largely by senior alumni. Getting a part-time job in roles related to business is more difficult. On the contrary, jobs in local retail/babysitting/restaurants, etc., are easier to come by.
- Students with solid academic performance do get opportunities for TA-ships. Apprenticeships are offered and non-academic roles such as IT/HR/Administrative sometimes offer internships. Students try for a vast array of jobs off campus, ranging from local businesses to large multiconglomerates. For student interns, the maximum work time is 20 hours per week.
Placement
- I am sure that more than 2/3 of the batch does secure a job within 6 months; however, variability in pay exists based on the relevance of the previous work experience of the student as well as their academic record. College helps with regard to job placements through Job Fairs, the Career Counseling Team, and a Strong Pan-Europe Alumni network.
Accommodation
- College put me in touch with a local apartment known as Appart'city Beauregard, where I rented a fully equipped studio apartment. As I had missed out on cheaper CROUS room listings offered by the college due to a delay in applying, I ended up renting a pricey, luxurious studio at Appart'City, which was definitely top-tier.
