Course Curriculum

8

  • The course was more theoretical than practical. The practical part would be the coding practice from each course. It would be one of the more difficult MSCs offer at EDHEC.

  • As there is quite a bit of content to be discussed in a program for data analytics, the first set consisted of basics like python, statistics and machine learning.

  • POSITIVE ASPECTS
    - We had an amazing professor who took statistics and data mining for us. He was also my thesis mentor and loved by all students.
    - Classes were quite engaging.
    - The second semester has both a specialisation period and a personalisation period which was great for all students.
    - This encouraged students to explore other msc topics and interact with other students.
    - The Option Of Doing A Certificate or educational trip or 5 of your favourite courses was a good 2 months.

  • NEGATIVE
    - Less time per course as we had 6 sessions of 3 hours each and a course was done. This made it hard for the professor and students to      complete.
    - Machine learning was taken by a lesser experienced professor and every student faced issues in the course. But this was dealt with well by the program director.
    - The course could have been extended to a full 18 months and then internship to really engage students better. Technically we spent 7 months on campus and the rest working on online courses and the thesis also which was all online including the final presentation.

Admission Experience

  • Applied into:-  Hec Paris - Rejected,Essec - Rejected,Escp - Rejected,Edhec - Admitted,Ntu Singapore - Rejected,Ubc - Rejected,Ucsd- Rejected,Cal State - Admitted,University Of Connecticut - Rejected,Northeastern - Rejected,Boston University - Waitlisted
  • I believe it was the grade requirements for the universities where I was rejectected. I personally went through the application process on my own and with no external assistance. All statements and interviews were researched, prepped and submitted by me.
  • I chose EDHEC over the US because of the program they offered. For me fee structure was also important. With a scholarship of 10% th tuition was 21k euros.
  • The admission process included an online application with the SOP, transcripts and GRE scores. I also submitted my IELTS score.
  • After this I received a link for the video interview. Here I was asked 5 questions live which were mainly focused on the topics covered in the program like what is machine learning? How do you tackle multiple tasks etc.
  • After about a month I received the acceptance letter.
  • I submitted the GRE scores but GMAT is also accepted. I do not remember a minimum being mentioned.
  • The overall process was really smooth as it was in English. I took French classes for two months after to prepare. Most of the official admin work here is in French. But the international student office at EDHEC I would say was the most helpful. They assisted in every step of the way even after graduating 3 months ago they are ready to help with official admin information in this country for foreign students.
  • I applied for the 2023 intake. The fees, location, program and a chance to work in Paris influenced y decision.
  • I dont have the exact date where I submitted the application but I remember that I submitted it in the end of April 2023..
  • Received KIRA interview request within a week by 10th of may.
  • By 19th of may I received my acceptance letter. The process was quite smooth and I was able to contact admissions office about any enquiry during the same.

Class Schedule

8

  • Per day it could be anywhere between 1-3 classes. We did not have a fixed schedule as we had visiting professors as well. So a regular day at edhec was between 3-9 hours. And timings were between 9am and 7pm.
  • They offered French classes based on your level so once a week we had to stay back in the evenings. These classes were not very good but a good way to keep practicing the language.
  • We had two cohorts in our program so roughly 55 per cohort making it almost 100 students per program.
  • I would say almost 20-30 Indian students were in my program.

Faculty

8

  • The classes I believe were the perfect size. We had the same teacher taking the classs twice as one room fitted 50 students and that was the split for the cohorts.
  • I would say this made interaction very easy and the faculty members were always very accessible to each student when needed.
  • With the best professors, it was sufficient to introduce us to the topics but practice and helping in securing a job was upto us as mostly it was theoretical and we covered practical assignments and projects mainly during the specialisation period.
  • They used the usual presentations, sharing resources, regular quizzes and bi weekly assignments and discussions for each assignment. The assignments were mostly done in pairs and groups except of course the thesis prep course.
  • I have heard of professors helping students but it is not very common now.
  • As I mentioned before I admired my statistics professor the most as he was very experienced in his field and was always open to helping any student and repeating topics no matter how difficult or lost a student found themselves during the class. He had the best material and was never unprepared for a class. All assignments provided gave an amazing outlook on the topics discussed and I believe every single student admired this professor greatly.

Campus Life

8

  • EDHEC has campuses in
    LILLE
    PARIS
    LONDON
    NICE

  • FACILITIES AT EDHEC LILLE:
    - Library,Gym,Swimming pool,Dance room,Yoga classes,Games room,Cafeteria,Grocery ,Doctor.

  • Major events included mainly career fairs.
  • The Diwali celebration is also big on campus. Food is provided to all who register and there are performances put together by the Indian club.
  • Holi is also celebrated on campus with faculty joining Indian students.
  • Masters students do not usually take part in extra curricular as there is honestly no time. The associations and clubs are mainly for the MIM students or the bachelor students. So I don not have much information on this. But I have seen that every week one of the clubs has some event and encourage all to join. Most of them have only French students unfortunately and international students are not accepted from the experience of my friends.

Part Time Jobs

  • In the MSC M2 year I have not heard of anyone doing part time jobs on campus. French is a huge plus point if you have fluency.
  • During the program as well, lille being in north of france unless you are fluent in French you cannot secure a part time job and honestly again there is no time for the same s you do not have a fixed schedule.
  • An option informed to me by a senior of mine at EDHEC is baby sitting as French families need English speaking nannies for their kids to learn French.
  • I applied to some organisations but they could not proceed with my file as I did not have a fixed schedule.
  • No one from my batch was working part time except maybe some remote online jobs.
  • In conclusion there is not much scope for on campus jobs .
  • Again I do not have information on this as most of the students including students here for 3 year programs do not do part time jobs because of the language barrier and schedule. So while studying it is quite difficult to secure a part time position and almost impossible. So part time jobs I cannot tell you anything about the process as all of us directly started applying for internships around france as it is the degree requirement to compete a minimum of 4-6 months internship to graduate.

Placement

6

  • As I have just completed my internship stage and now am in the full time job hunt I can inform you about the internship process.
  • majority I would say 90% secured an internship in our batch.
  • The average salary was 1000 euros monthly.
  • Mosts students find jobs through linkedin or connecting to people with similar positions as the student is searching for. There are other websites too but linkedin is the most popular of course.
  • The process ideally should be started half way through the 1st semester. It is not easy for English speaking students with no fluency to find internships. But internships are easier to acquire as the contract in france is a try party contract for most internships and all companies require the university to provide the same.
  • EDHEC also has an online job portal on job teaser and conducts online job fairs to meet with companies tied to the university.
  • For full time opportunities it is more difficult currently as French fluency is a must in Paris and around Paris.
  • 4 students from my batch were placed in amazon Luxembourg which I would say was one of the best placements in out batch with 3500 euros ar the monthly salary.
  • The experience was mainly through a contact on LinkedIn from amazon who was happy to talk about his experience at amazon.
  • referrals at bigger companies was a must most of them got this internship through a referral and conversion at the end of 6 months happened for 2 out of 4 of them.
  • In full time positions everyone from my batch who are non French are still searching for jobs currently as the visa process is also a whole other topic and not easy to tackle here,
  • But students from the MIM track which is 3 year program with one gap year for internships. One has secured a position in Ireland with apple as he has more experience in Europe.

Accommodation

Off Campus
8

  • I opted for off campus accommodation 20 mins by walk from campus.
  • I found it through the edhec accommodation portal which is provided to every student.
  • monthly rent for 540 with 99 reimbursed in rent support.
  • I honestly did not face difficulties to find as this portal made it very easy.
  • First you fill out your request and the international student office connects you to the landlord.
  • I would say definitely speak to existing students as everyone faced different issues with landlords and security deposit issues.
  • The campus being not so large it is better to live in the city as it is very accessible. If you want to stay close of course look for nearby hostels and accommodation. Honestly all the information is provided by the admin like which areas to avoid and look into.
  • Most of the Indians I knew stayed near campus or on campus. Mine was just a 20 min walk from campus in the town names Croix which is a very quiet and calm area in lille.

Exams

  • IELTS and one of GRE or GMAT is required.
    Transcripts.
    IELTS SCORE SHEET
    GRE SCORE SHEET
    STATEMENT OF PURPOSE
    2 LETTERS OF RECOMMENDATIONS
    CV

  • It was an online KIRA interview where the question was presented and we have 1 minute to prepare and record our answer.

  • There were 5 questions and from my memory they were focused on the program.
    - What is machine learning?
    - What is the global impact of AI?
    - What is one obstacle you faced and how did you overcome it?

  • These are a few that I can recall.

Fees

  • The total was around 21,000 euros taken in 3 deposits.
  • First one before the start of the year one in between and one by December.
  • Tuition - 21000
  • Hostel - depends on the accommodation you choose.
  • I chose to live off campus and paid 540 euros per month all charges included.
  • France offers rent support for students and young professionals and the international office helps us with this too. Once set up depending on the residence type and if it is studio or home shared each student receives monthly support from the CAF organisation.
  • I received 99 euros per month.
  • Living charges obviously vary from person to person but for essentials and grocery it would come around 40 euros per week
  • In the first week edhec helps students set up a bank account where 80 euros is given to each student when opening an account.
  • For public transport edhec also provides a service to set up your card and it is upto the student to subscribe monthly or not. This was 35 euros per month.
  • Monthly expenses including rent can be between 1000 euros to 1500 euros.

Scholarship

  • When admitted based on your work experience, grades and background edhec offers a direct scholarship. I believe there are more that students can apply to at the time of applications.
  • I received a 10% scholarship.
  • Yes I believe all Indians received scholarships from 10- 25%.
  • I believe everyone I came across at the university was awarded a scholarship. The Lille campus is known to be an international campus and so most students were awarded the same.
