Likes
- Right mix of international and French culture- Most of the students are international, however the school values its French culture.
- Ambitious cohort- The cohort is not only diverse but everyone is highly ambitious, forcing you to work hard just to keep up with others, elevating your professional skills in the process.
- Location- I personally prefer the countryside and the college is located in the outskirts of Paris, but within reachable distance. The campus has a pristine lake inside it as well as a small forest.
Dislikes
- Lack of active efforts for cultural amalgamation- The college does not actively keep events to introduce people with different nationalities. Hence, some people may tend to stick with people of their own nationality.
- Lack of transport to the city of Paris- Even though the college has its own bus service to the city, it is very infrequent and uncertain.
- Disparity in hostel rooms- Only first year students are provided with rooms that have a kitchen in it, rest of the cohort do not have such rooms.
Course Curriculum

- The course curriculum in the first year is very broad, covering the basics of all major business fields such as Finance, Strategy, Operations and Marketing. There are a lot of case studies in all the courses and this gives the students an opportunity to get to know their classmates and improve their leadership and teamwork skills.
- The second-year specialisation delves deeper into one of the above fields according to the one you choose. It is more practical in nature and the Finance specialisations even have a study trip to London where students get to meet Investment Banking alumni.
- The average number of students in each class is around 70-90 for mandatory courses. And it varies between 15 and 50 in electives based on popularity, of course.
Fees
- First-year fee: 24,650 euros. Second-year fee: 24,897 euros. The fee is charged yearly.
- The monthly expenses range from 800 to 1200, depending on month-specific choices. The rent is around 600 euros; however, after CAF (a concession given by the French government) It may come down to 400 euros. Other regular expenses will be around 300 euros; however, there are always ad hoc expenses.

- Social life (parties, events organised, etc.)
- Extra-curricular activities (lots of free classes and associations to join- there is always something to do)
- Alumni network - with one of the biggest networks in Europe, you will always find a fellow HEC comrade in any company you wish to work for
Dislikes
- It's far from Paris
- Classes are less rigorous than I expected (coming from a quant and math background, I expected a little more rigor)
- Help with jobs- while the events and prep for jobs is good when you're in the college, you're pretty much on your own once you graduate
Course Curriculum

- I took the Economics and Finance major and there was a nice variety of courses to choose form. Since I had done economics before, I had the option to waive a few core courses and opt for new courses.
- I decided to opt for more finance courses to learn something new. Most of the faculty was extremely good- they taught well and shared their real-life experiences with us which was really cool.
- The course curriculum was a good balance of theory and practical courses which I liked. We got to see the real life applications of the things that we learnt while also understanding the crux of it.
- The timings depend on your course selection but are not too intense if chosen well. There can be some semesters which are demanding and some that are super chill.
- In my major, there were around 100 people- 60 from the 3 year Master in Management program and 40 from the specialised Master. There were around 5-6 Indian students in our course but the general Indian population in the college is high.
Fees
- The total tuition fee was around 34,000 Euros for the 1.5 years. Hostel accommodation cost about 560 Euros per month, but with a housing subsidy (if applied for) of around 150-200 Euros, the rent came down to roughly 400 Euros. Estimated monthly living expenses were around 200 Euros, depending on lifestyle and personal choices.
- A yearly student Navigo pass to travel in and around Paris is 360 euros per year.

- The international culture that gives students a chance to understand different perspectives and grow from diversity
- Course curriculum is one of the best in the world as it includes the foundational courses, specialization and more importantly, all the courses are practically taught with industry relevant examples
- Student culture in the college is very infectious with networking events and social gatherings to meet & know about the lifestyle of the cohort. This helps in evaluating our strategy for the rest of the college and as well develop your network
Dislikes
- The campus is far from the city of Paris which might bound students to the limited space and act as a barrier for someone who wants to experience European city life and also difficult to understand various business trends in the city. Paris always holds networking events, exhibitions for students and so many marketing stunts that would develop the creativity of a student
- Language barrier is still a concern. Even though the campus is English supported, most of the administrative and office work still requires students to know French
- Career fairs in the college mostly invites French companies who mostly require someone who can speak French and have the conversations with the clients. This might cause trouble with limited opportunities for English speaking students

- I would describe the difficulty level to be Extreme because of the cohort that is present in the class. As HEC Paris chooses students with varied backgrounds, they give utmost importance to the academics and past performance of the student.
- The positive side of having a competitive cohort is to learn and grow from the talented individuals, but sometimes, it might lower the confidence of a student due to high performance cohort.
