The supplementary exam is a second chance for students who failed in one or two subjects in the main Madhyamik 2026 exam held in February. The board introduced this route in 2024 to help failed students clear the exam in the same academic year instead of losing a full session.

Around 72,000 students are expected to appear for the supplementary exam this year. The exam will be held in the morning session from 11:45 AM to 3:00 PM across designated centres in every district. Each paper carries the same 100 marks as the main exam, and the syllabus is unchanged. Students who clear the supplementary will be marked as "Passed" with no separate notation on their final marksheet.

The PPR/PPS deadline has now ended, and the next refresh of marks will come through the supplementary exam route for failed candidates.

  • PPS (Post Publication Scrutiny): The board checks if all answers were marked and if the marks were added correctly. The fee was Rs 80 per subject.

If you have failed in one or two subjects and have not applied for PPR/PPS, your only option now is the supplementary exam in July 2026.

WBBSE Madhyamik 2026 Exam Pattern

The WBBSE Madhyamik 2026 exam pattern is simple and fixed. You write seven compulsory subjects. Each subject carries 100 marks. Out of these, 90 marks are for the written exam and 10 marks are for internal assessment. The total for all subjects is 700 marks.

Each main paper is for 3 hours plus 15 minutes of reading time. The main exam was held in a single shift from 10:45 AM to 2:00 PM. The first 15 minutes are given for reading the question paper. The paper has multiple choice, short answer and long answer questions. The supplementary exam follows the same pattern but is held in the morning slot from 11:45 AM to 3:00 PM.

Subject Written Marks Internal Marks Total
First Language (Bengali/Hindi/Urdu etc.) 90 10 100
Second Language (English) 90 10 100
Mathematics 90 10 100
Physical Science 90 10 100
Life Science 90 10 100

To pass, you must score at least 25% marks in each subject. You also need to pass the overall exam. The merit ranks are decided on the total 700 marks of the seven subjects.

WBBSE Madhyamik 2026 Syllabus

The WBBSE Madhyamik 2026 syllabus covers seven compulsory subjects. The syllabus is set by the West Bengal Board of Secondary Education. It is based on the Class 9 and Class 10 textbooks used in West Bengal schools. The supplementary exam follows the same syllabus as the main exam.

You should focus on the full Class 10 syllabus and revise the basics from Class 9 too. Here is a quick look at the main subjects.

  • First Language: Prose, poetry, grammar and composition in Bengali, Hindi, Urdu, Nepali, Santali or other approved languages.
  • Second Language: English reading, grammar, writing skills and seen and unseen passages.
  • Mathematics: Algebra, geometry, trigonometry, mensuration, statistics and arithmetic.
  • Physical Science: Physics and chemistry topics like light, current, gas laws, periodic table and chemical reactions.
  • Life Science: Biology topics like life processes, heredity, environment and human physiology.
  • History: Modern Indian history, social movements and the freedom struggle.
  • Geography: Physical geography, India and West Bengal geography, and map work.

The internal assessment of 10 marks per subject is based on projects and activities done in school. You should complete these on time, as they add to your final score.

WBBSE Madhyamik Grading System

The WBBSE Madhyamik result uses a grade system along with marks. Each subject gets a grade based on the marks you score. The grade helps you understand your level in each subject and is what most Class 11 schools look at for stream allocation. Here is the WBBSE grading table.

Marks Range Grade Remarks
90 - 100 AA Outstanding
80 - 89 A+ Excellent
60 - 79 A Very Good
50 - 59 B+ Good
40 - 49 B Above Average
30 - 39 C+ Average
25 - 29 C Pass
Below 25 D Needs Improvement

You need at least a C grade (25 marks) in each subject to pass. The board shows both the marks and the grade on your marksheet. For Science stream in Class 11, most West Bengal schools ask for an A grade or higher in Mathematics and Physical Science.

WBBSE Madhyamik 2026 Admit Card

The WBBSE Madhyamik 2026 admit card for the main exam was released on 20th January 2026. The board sent the admit cards to schools, and students collected them from their own schools. There is no online download for individual students.

The admit card had important details like your name, roll number, exam centre and the subject-wise schedule. You needed to carry the admit card to every exam. Without it, you could not enter the exam hall.

For the upcoming supplementary exam, the WBBSE will release the admit card by 14th July 2026. Schools will collect the printed admit cards from the regional offices and hand them over to eligible students about a week before the exam. You should make sure your school has filled your supplementary form before 25th June 2026 to be eligible.

Eligibility and Registration

To appear for the WBBSE Madhyamik exam, you must be a registered Class 10 student of a WBBSE-affiliated school. The registration is done in Class 9 through your school. You cannot register on your own as a private candidate in the normal stream.

  • You must have passed Class 9 from a WBBSE-recognised school.
  • Your school must complete your Madhyamik registration in Class 9.
  • You need a minimum attendance as set by your school.
  • There is no upper age limit, but you should be at least 14 years old in the exam year.

The registration fee is collected by the school along with the exam form. Your school submits the details to the board. You should check that your name, date of birth and subjects are correct on the registration slip.

For the supplementary exam, only students who appeared in the main Madhyamik 2026 exam and failed in one or two subjects are eligible. Compartmental candidates who failed in three or more subjects must wait for Madhyamik 2027.

What After the Madhyamik 2026 Result?

After the WBBSE Madhyamik 2026 result, the next step is Class 11 admission. You can take admission in the Higher Secondary (Class 11) stream based on your Madhyamik marks. The streams are Science, Commerce and Arts (Humanities).

West Bengal now uses a centralised online admission portal for Class 11 admission. You should register on the portal and apply to colleges and higher secondary schools of your choice. The cut-off for each stream depends on the school and the demand.

  • Science: You usually need good marks in Mathematics and Science. This stream leads to engineering, medical and pure science.
  • Commerce: A good aggregate helps. This stream is for business, accounts and management careers.
  • Arts: Open to most students. This stream is for law, civil services, teaching and the social sciences.

If you did not pass one or two subjects, you can now use the supplementary exam in July 2026 to clear the failed papers. Once you pass, you will be eligible for Class 11 admission in the same academic year. Students who failed in three or more subjects can prepare for the Madhyamik 2027 cycle.

WBBSE Madhyamik Preparation Tips

Good preparation for the WBBSE Madhyamik exam is about steady work and smart revision. You do not need to study for very long hours. You need to study the right way. Here are some simple tips that help, whether you are preparing for the supplementary exam in July or the main Madhyamik 2027.

  • Stick to the textbook: The WBBSE Madhyamik paper is mostly based on the board textbooks. You should read them well before any guide book.
  • Solve past papers: Practice the last 5 years of question papers. This shows you the pattern and the important topics.
  • Make a timetable: Give more time to your weak subjects. Keep a fixed slot for daily revision.
  • Focus on internal marks: The 10 internal marks per subject are easy to score. Finish your school projects on time.
  • Write neatly: Clear handwriting and proper steps help you get full marks, especially in Maths and Science.
  • Revise daily: Short daily revision works better than long study before the exam.

If you are preparing for the supplementary exam, focus only on the failed subjects. Treat the six weeks as a focused sprint on the weak chapters rather than full-syllabus revision. You should also take short breaks and sleep well. A calm mind helps you remember more. With regular practice, you can score well in the WBBSE Madhyamik exam.
