What is PULEET 2026?
PULEET stands for Panjab University Lateral Engineering Entrance Test. It is a university-level entrance exam conducted by the CET Cell of Panjab University, Chandigarh. The exam provides direct admission to the second year (3rd semester) of the 4-year B.E. degree program for polytechnic diploma holders. This path is commonly known as lateral entry.
Through PULEET, a candidate who holds a 3-year engineering diploma can skip the first year of B.E. and get direct admission to the second year. This is a great opportunity for diploma engineers who want to upgrade their qualification to a full engineering degree from Panjab University.
The exam is held in offline mode (pen and paper) once a year. It has 100 multiple-choice questions to be answered in 1 hour 40 minutes. There is negative marking of ¼ mark for each wrong answer. Panjab University prepares a merit-cum-rank list based on marks scored in PULEET, and admission is given based on rank and seat availability.

PULEET 2026 Cutoff and Rank List
There is no official cutoff percentage for PULEET 2026. Panjab University does not set a minimum qualifying score for any category. Instead, the university prepares a common merit-cum-rank list for all candidates who appeared in the exam. Admission is purely rank-based, based on the marks scored in the entrance test.
This means that even a candidate with a relatively lower score can get admission if the total number of applicants is less than the available seats, or if higher-ranked candidates do not take up seats in a specific branch or institute.
How the PULEET 2026 Merit List Works
- A single combined merit list is published for all participating institutes.
- All candidates who appeared in the exam are ranked based on total marks (out of 100).
- In case of a tie in marks, the tie-breaking criteria (typically date of birth, or higher marks in specific subjects as per the prospectus) are applied.
- Separate category-wise rank lists are also prepared for SC, ST, BC, PwD, and EWS candidates.
- During counselling, seats are allotted based on rank, chosen preference (college and branch), and seat availability.
Factors that Affect Your Effective Cutoff
While there is no fixed cutoff, in practice your chances of getting a preferred branch and college depend on:
- Total number of candidates who appeared in PULEET 2026
- Total seats available across UIET, UICET, UIET Hoshiarpur, and CCET
- Your rank in the merit list
- Branch preferences you select during counselling
- Category quota applicable to your certificate
Note: Panjab University publishes the final merit list and seat allotment result on the official portal. Candidates can check their allotment status by logging in after the merit list is released.
PULEET 2026 Counselling Process
The PULEET 2026 counselling is expected to begin in the 3rd week of August 2026. This is based on the PULEET 2025 pattern, when counselling was held in August 2025. Counselling is conducted in two rounds by Panjab University.

PULEET 2026 Preparation Tips
With just about 18 days left for PULEET 2026 (exam on June 14, 2026), your preparation should now be in revision mode. The exam has 100 questions from 10 equal-weightage subjects. Here are the most effective tips to prepare for PULEET 2026 in the remaining time.
1. Focus on Equal Preparation for All 10 Subjects
Since every subject carries exactly 10 marks, do not skip or neglect any subject. Many candidates focus only on their diploma branch subjects and ignore Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, or General Aptitude. This is a costly mistake. Even scoring 7–8 in a subject you consider weak adds more to your total than scoring 10 in a subject you are already strong in.
2. Revise Diploma-Level Concepts Thoroughly
PULEET questions are based on your diploma-level engineering curriculum. Go through your polytechnic semester textbooks and NCERT books for Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics. The level of questions is moderate — not too deep but not superficial either. Focus on understanding concepts rather than memorising formulas.
3. Practise Previous Year Question Papers
Solving past PULEET question papers is one of the best ways to understand the question pattern and difficulty level. You can get previous year question papers from the official PULEET website and educational portals. Try to solve at least 3–4 full-length papers before the exam.
4. Master Time Management — 1 Minute per Question
You have 100 minutes for 100 questions, which means exactly 1 minute per question. Practice solving MCQs quickly. Do not spend more than 1.5 minutes on any single question. If a question is taking too long, skip it and come back later. Speed and accuracy both matter.
5. Be Smart About Negative Marking
There is a ¼ mark deduction for every wrong answer. This means 4 wrong answers cancel out 1 right answer. You should not guess randomly. If you can eliminate 2 options confidently, you can make an educated attempt. But if you have no idea about a question, it is safer to leave it blank.
6. Give Extra Attention to Mathematics
Mathematics is usually the subject where diploma students either score very high or very low. Since it carries 10 marks just like other subjects, a solid preparation in topics like calculus, algebra, and matrices can help you gain a good advantage. Make sure you revise all key formulas.
7. Take Mock Tests Under Exam Conditions
In the last week before the exam, sit down for a full-length mock test (100 questions in 100 minutes) in conditions that simulate the actual exam — no phone, no breaks, strict time limit. This helps reduce exam-day anxiety and improves your speed.
8. Do Not Start New Topics Now
With 18 days left, do not start studying entirely new topics. Focus on revision of what you already know. Make short notes of formulas, key concepts, and frequently asked topics for quick revision in the last 2–3 days.
