What is PULEET 2026?
PULEET stands for Panjab University Lateral Engineering Entrance Test. Panjab University, Chandigarh conducts this exam every year to fill lateral entry seats in B.E. programmes at its affiliated engineering institutes. If you hold a 3-year engineering diploma or a B.Sc. degree with Mathematics and want to enter directly into the 2nd year (3rd semester) of a B.E. degree without repeating the first year, PULEET is the pathway for you.
The exam follows a compact structure of 100 multiple-choice questions (MCQs) spread across 10 engineering subjects, each carrying 10 marks. You get 100 minutes to complete the test. The exam is conducted in offline OMR-based mode (pen and paper), and the single exam centre is the Panjab University campus, Chandigarh — which means all candidates appear at the same location on the same day.
Panjab University uses your PULEET score to prepare a merit rank list. Seats are then allotted through an offline counselling process held after result declaration. The PULEET 2026 exam was held on June 14, 2026, and the result is expected on June 30, 2026. PULEET is a key pathway for diploma holders from Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, and the UT of Chandigarh who want to enter reputed institutes like UIET Chandigarh and CCET Chandigarh directly in the second year of engineering.

UIET Chandigarh
UIET, Panjab University is the most preferred destination for PULEET candidates. It is a constituent college of Panjab University on the main campus, with a strong placement record in IT, electronics, and manufacturing sectors. Graduates from UIET Chandigarh join top companies and public sector undertakings (PSUs). CSE and ECE at UIET Chandigarh are the most competitive branches — you need a score of 65 or above to have a realistic chance.
CCET Chandigarh
Chandigarh College of Engineering and Technology (CCET) at Sector 26 is the most popular second choice after UIET. It has strong industry connections and a good alumni network, especially for Computer Engineering, Mechanical, and Electrical branches. CCET is an excellent option for candidates who narrowly miss the UIET Chandigarh cutoff.
UICET Chandigarh

It is one of the few institutes in North India offering lateral entry specifically in these streams under a central university umbrella.
UIET PUSSGRC Hoshiarpur
UIET at the PU Hoshiarpur Regional Centre offers the same Panjab University-affiliated B.E. degree in four branches. It is a good option for candidates with a moderate PULEET score who want a PU degree at lower competition for admission. Placements are growing steadily as the institute expands its industry partnerships.
PULEET 2026 Preparation Tips
These tips are useful for candidates who are reviewing their performance after PULEET 2026 and planning for PULEET 2027. Since all 10 subjects carry equal marks (10 each), a balanced strategy that leaves no subject weak is the most effective approach for this exam.
- Cover all 10 subjects equally: Each subject contributes 10 marks. Ignoring even one section costs you 10 marks — a significant loss in an exam where all candidates compete for a limited number of seats. Plan your preparation to cover all subjects, not just the ones you are comfortable with.
- Start with Engineering Mathematics: Mathematics is the core of PULEET and also touches many other subjects (Physics, Electrical, Civil). A strong grip on Calculus, Matrices, Differential Equations, and Vectors will help you score consistently. Practice at least 10–15 questions daily on these topics.
- Use your diploma textbooks: The PULEET syllabus is directly based on first-year diploma content. Your polytechnic college textbooks — along with NCERT books for Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics — are the best preparation resources. You do not need expensive coaching materials or guides.
- Master negative marking discipline: Each wrong answer costs –0.25 marks. Attempting a question you are unsure about risks losing 0.25 marks instead of the 0 you would keep by skipping it. Accuracy matters more than attempting all 100 questions. Only mark answers you are reasonably confident about.
- Practise timed mock tests on OMR sheets: You get exactly 1 minute per question. Practise solving full papers in 100 minutes on OMR format. Filling OMR sheets accurately under time pressure is a skill — errors cannot be corrected easily during the exam.
- Don’t underestimate General Aptitude: This section is often dismissed by engineering students, but it is the most scoring part of the PULEET paper. Targeting a full 10 out of 10 here is realistic with just 2–3 weeks of practice on logical reasoning and basic English grammar.
- Focus on your diploma core subject: Your diploma specialisation (Electrical, Electronics, Mechanical, Civil, Chemical, or Computer) directly overlaps with 1–2 PULEET subjects. Start your preparation with these — they are where you already have an advantage and where you should score 9–10 per section.
- Solve PULEET previous year question papers: Previous year papers reveal the difficulty level, question style, and which topics appear most frequently. Solving 3–5 full papers under timed conditions is essential for both preparation and confidence before the exam.
- Create a quick-revision sheet one week before the exam: Write down key formulas for Mathematics, Physics, and Basic Electrical/Electronics on a single page. For Computer Fundamentals, note key C programming syntax. Revise this sheet daily in the final week for maximum retention on exam day.
