- Round 1 Seat Allotment: Seat allotment results will be published from July 3, 2026. Candidates allotted seats must report to the college and complete admission formalities by July 7, 2026 — a window of just four days.
What is MP Counselling 2026?
MP Counselling 2026 refers to the DTE MP BE/B.Tech Counselling — a centralised, government-run admission process for undergraduate engineering programs (B.E./B.Tech) in Madhya Pradesh. The Directorate of Technical Education (DTE), Madhya Pradesh conducts this counselling every year to fill engineering seats in government and private colleges across the state, based on JEE Main scores.
The counselling covers admissions to more than 150 engineering colleges spread across every major city in MP, including Bhopal, Indore, Gwalior, Jabalpur, Ujjain, Rewa, Sagar, Satna, and Bhind. Participating institutions include government colleges, government-aided autonomous institutions, university-owned institutes, and private unaided colleges.
Admissions are primarily based on JEE Main 2026 All India Rank (AIR). Candidates who did not appear for JEE Main can apply under the Qualifying Exam (QE) route — but only for seats left vacant after the JEE Main-based rounds are completed. The process runs in two centralised rounds. If seats remain unfilled after both rounds, College Level Counselling (CLC) rounds are conducted where individual colleges fill remaining seats directly.
All registrations, choice filling, and seat allotment results are published on the official portal at dte.mponline.gov.in. Physical presence is only required at the allotted college during the reporting window after a seat is confirmed. Around 2 lakh candidates participate in this counselling every year, competing for seats in CSE, IT, Electronics & Communication, Mechanical, Civil, Electrical, and other engineering branches.
MP Counselling 2026 is the primary route for JEE Main-qualified students who want engineering admission in Madhya Pradesh. It is separate from JoSAA counselling (which covers NITs and IITs) and does not include institutions like MANIT Bhopal or IIT Indore.

MP Counselling 2026: Choice Filling (Currently Active)
Choice filling is the most critical step in MP Counselling 2026. The Round 1 choice filling window opened on June 7, 2026 and is currently active until June 28, 2026. You must select and rank your preferred colleges and branches within this window. The seat allotment algorithm uses your JEE Main rank and your preference list to assign you the best available seat.
How Choice Filling Works
In MP Counselling 2026, choice filling means selecting engineering colleges and B.E./B.Tech branches in order of your preference. The allotment system processes candidates in merit rank order. For each candidate, it checks their preference list from top to bottom and assigns the highest-ranked option with a vacant seat.
- You must fill a minimum of 25 choices to complete the process. There is no upper limit — fill as many as available.
- Order your preferences from most desired to least desired. Your best possible seat comes from the highest-ranked option with a vacancy matching your merit rank.
- You can edit and re-order choices any number of times before locking. Once you lock your choices, no further changes are allowed.
- Locking is mandatory before June 28, 2026. Candidates who do not lock their choices on time may be excluded from Round 1 seat allotment.
- An application correction window is available on June 25-26, 2026 for minor corrections before final locking.
The single most important deadline in the current phase of MP Counselling 2026 is June 28, 2026 — the last day to lock Round 1 choices. Do not miss it.
How Many Choices Should You Fill?
The minimum is 25, but candidates should aim to fill 50 or more choices wherever possible. In previous years, candidates who filled a larger number of choices had a far better chance of receiving a seat allotment, especially when their JEE Main rank was in the competitive middle range where seats in top colleges are uncertain.
Strategy for Choice Filling in MP Counselling 2026
- Use last year’s (2025) opening and closing ranks for your target colleges and branches as a reference. If your JEE Main 2026 AIR is better than the 2025 closing rank for a college-branch combination, put it near the top of your list.
- Place your most desired option as Choice 1, even if it seems tough. If you get a better rank than expected, you benefit from it.
- Include both government and private colleges. Government and aided colleges typically have lower fees and higher academic standing, but private colleges offer more seats and more flexible cutoffs.
- Do not limit yourself to a single city. Include colleges from Indore, Bhopal, Gwalior, Jabalpur, and other cities if you are open to relocating. Restricting to one city severely limits your options.
- Do not ignore non-CSE branches in top government colleges. Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, or Electrical Engineering from a reputed government college can offer better long-term value than CSE from an average private college.
Seat Upgradation After Round 1 Allotment
Even after you are allotted a seat in Round 1 (July 3-7, 2026), you can apply for seat upgradation during the same window. If a higher-preference option from your locked list becomes vacant (because another candidate rejected it), the system automatically moves you to that better seat. You must actively register for upgradation during July 3-7, 2026. Reporting for upgraded seats is scheduled for July 11-15, 2026. Upgradation does not cost anything — there is no additional fee beyond the registration fee already paid.
MP Counselling 2026 Merit List
The MP Counselling 2026 merit list — also called the Common Merit List (CML) — is the ranked list of all eligible candidates who registered for the counselling. The Round 1 merit list will be released on June 29, 2026. A separate merit list will be released for Round 2 on July 23, 2026.
How the Merit List Is Prepared
The Round 1 merit list is based on JEE Main 2026 All India Rank. Candidates are ranked in ascending order of AIR — the lower the AIR, the higher the merit position. In case of a tie between two candidates with the same AIR, the following tie-breaking rules apply in order:
- Higher aggregate marks in the Class 10+2 qualifying exam
- Higher marks in Mathematics in the qualifying exam
- Higher marks in Physics in the qualifying exam
- Older candidate gets preference
- Alphabetical order of name
Types of Merit Lists in MP Counselling 2026
- JEE Main-Based Common Merit List: The main list for Round 1 and Round 2. Prepared for all categories of candidates who have a valid JEE Main 2026 AIR.
- Qualifying Exam (QE) Merit List: For candidates applying based on Class 12 marks only, without JEE Main. This list is used only for seats vacant after JEE Main rounds are complete.
- Category-wise Merit Lists: Separate lists are maintained for General, SC, ST, OBC, EWS, and horizontal reservation categories within both JEE Main-based and QE categories.
The merit list is published online on the DTE MP portal. You can check your position on the merit list by logging in with your registered credentials. Only candidates appearing on the merit list are eligible for seat allotment. Candidates whose documents are found incorrect or incomplete during online verification may be removed from the merit list — so submit accurate documents during registration.
MP Counselling 2026 Seat Allotment Process
After the merit list is released on June 29, 2026, the Round 1 seat allotment will take place between July 3-7, 2026. The system assigns each candidate the best available option from their locked choice list, based on their merit rank and seat availability.
How the Allotment Algorithm Works
The MP Counselling 2026 seat allotment engine processes registered candidates in merit rank order. For each candidate, it goes through their choice list from top to bottom and assigns the highest-ranked choice that has a vacant seat matching the candidate’s category. This means:
- If your top choice has a seat available for your rank and category, you get that seat.
- If your top choice is already filled, the engine checks your second choice, then third, and so on.
- If no choice from your list has an available seat for your rank, you do not get a seat in that round and can participate in Round 2.
Round-wise Seat Allotment Schedule
| Round | Allotment Result Date | Reporting Window |
|---|---|---|
| Round 1 | July 3, 2026 | July 3-7, 2026 |
| Round 1 — Upgraded Seats | July 11, 2026 | July 11-15, 2026 |
| Round 2 | July 27, 2026 | July 27-30, 2026 |
| CLC Round 1 | August 4, 2026 | August 4-6, 2026 |
| CLC Round 2 | August 8, 2026 | August 8-10, 2026 |
| CLC Round 3 | August 12, 2026 | August 12-14, 2026 |
Steps to Follow After Seat Allotment
- Login to the DTE MP portal and download your seat allotment letter.
- Report to the allotted college within the reporting window (July 3-7, 2026 for Round 1).
- Submit original documents for verification. The college verifies and returns all originals except TC (Transfer Certificate) and Migration Certificate.
- Pay the college admission fee as determined by the institution.
- If you want a better seat, register for seat upgradation during the same window (July 3-7, 2026).
If you are allotted a seat but do not report to the college within the reporting window, your seat will be automatically cancelled. You can still participate in Round 2, but there is no guarantee of receiving another allotment.
College Level Counselling (CLC)
After the two centralised rounds are complete, seats remaining vacant in any participating college are filled through College Level Counselling (CLC). CLC rounds are conducted directly at the college level in August 2026. Three CLC rounds are scheduled for MP Counselling 2026. Candidates who did not get a seat in Round 1 or Round 2, or who want to explore remaining options, can apply for CLC at eligible colleges. CLC cutoff ranks are generally more relaxed than centralised rounds since fewer candidates participate at this stage.
Seat Distribution and Reservation in MP Counselling 2026
DTE Madhya Pradesh follows a well-defined seat distribution and reservation system in MP Counselling 2026. Understanding this structure helps you identify which seats you are eligible for and how to plan your choices effectively.
Domicile-Based Seat Distribution
| Quota | Percentage of Total Seats | Eligibility |
|---|---|---|
| MP Domicile | 90% | Candidates with MP Domicile Certificate (Format 6) |
| All India | 5% | Any candidate with JEE Main score; no domicile required |
| NRI | 5% | Non-Resident Indians with valid NRI documents |
Unfilled NRI or All India quota seats convert to MP Domicile seats after the allotment rounds and are filled by eligible state candidates.
Category-wise Reservation (Within MP Domicile Quota)
| Category | Reservation Percentage |
|---|---|
| Scheduled Caste (SC) | 16% |
| Scheduled Tribe (ST) | 20% |
| Other Backward Classes (OBC) | 14% |
| Economically Weaker Section (EWS) | 10% |
| General (Unreserved) | Remaining seats after category allocation |
Horizontal (Cross-Category) Reservation
In addition to category reservations, MP Counselling 2026 also provides horizontal reservation that cuts across all vertical categories:
- Female candidates: 30% of seats within each category are compartmentalized for women.
- Divyangjan (Differently Abled): 3% of seats across all categories.
- Military / Sainik Kalyan: 5% of seats for dependents of defence personnel.
- NCC ’B’ Certificate Holders: 2% of seats for NCC qualified candidates.
Tuition Fee Waiver (TFW) Scheme
DTE MP offers the Tuition Fee Waiver (TFW) scheme for financially weaker students. Key points:
- 5% supernumerary seats are available in each college and branch under this scheme — these seats are in addition to the regular seat matrix.
- Your family’s annual income must be Rs. 8,00,000 or less to be eligible.
- Only tuition fee is waived — other charges like development fee, examination fee, hostel fee, and miscellaneous charges still apply.
- Only MP Domicile candidates can apply for TFW seats.
MP Counselling 2026 Cutoff
The MP Counselling 2026 cutoff refers to the opening and closing JEE Main All India Ranks at which admissions happen in each college, branch, category, and round. The 2026 official cutoff ranks will be published with the Round 1 merit list on June 29, 2026, and updated after Round 2 and CLC rounds. Since 2026 cutoffs are not yet available, last year’s data provides the most useful reference for planning your choice list.
MP Counselling 2025 Reference Cutoff (General Category, Last Round — Indicative)
| College | Branch | Approx. Closing Rank (2025 Reference) |
|---|---|---|
| SGSITS, Indore | Computer Science Engineering | ~18,000 – 22,000 |

| UEC, Ujjain | Computer Science Engineering | ~40,000 – 46,000 |
| Electronics Engineering | ~55,000 – 62,000 |
Note: These ranks are indicative based on 2024-25 counselling trends and should be used only for planning your choice list. Actual 2026 cutoffs will be published on dte.mponline.gov.in from June 29, 2026 onwards. Always verify official data before making admission decisions.
Factors That Affect MP Counselling 2026 Cutoff
- JEE Main 2026 difficulty level: A harder paper shifts overall rank distribution — more candidates cluster at similar rank bands, increasing competition at the same colleges. An easier paper tightens competition at top institutions.
- Total candidates registered: Higher registration numbers increase competition for the same seats, generally pushing closing ranks to higher numerical values.
- Seat matrix changes: If a college adds seats in a branch or a new branch is introduced, the closing rank for that branch can be more relaxed than the previous year.
- Round number: Round 1 cutoffs are usually tighter than Round 2, because all registered candidates compete in Round 1. Round 2 sees fewer active competitors as many have already accepted seats or dropped out.
- Category: SC, ST, and OBC cutoffs have more relaxed closing ranks compared to General category, reflecting reservation benefits.

Tips for MP Counselling 2026 Choice Filling
Since Round 1 choice filling is currently active until June 28, 2026, here are practical tips to help you make the best use of the available window and maximise your chances of a good seat allotment:
- Fill as many choices as possible. The minimum is 25 choices, but aim for 50 or more. In previous years, candidates who filled a large number of choices had a significantly higher chance of receiving a seat allotment. There is no penalty for filling more choices.
- Use 2025 cutoff ranks as your benchmark. The previous year’s opening and closing ranks are the best guide for what to expect. If your JEE Main 2026 AIR is better than a college-branch combination’s 2025 closing rank, include it in your top choices with confidence.
- Always put your most desired option first. Even if a college or branch seems out of reach, put it as Choice 1. The allotment system gives you the best possible seat — it never assigns a worse option if a better one is available for your rank.
- Include colleges from multiple cities. If you can study outside your home city, add options from Indore, Gwalior, Bhopal, Jabalpur, and Ujjain. Limiting to one city can leave you without a seat in a competitive rank range.
- Prioritise government and aided colleges. Government and aided institutions generally offer better faculty, infrastructure, and fee structures at lower cost. Put these higher in your preference list even if their cutoffs are tighter.
- Consider less competitive branches in top colleges. Getting into a top government college like SGSITS or MITS for Mechanical or Civil Engineering may be more achievable than CSE — and the placement network and college reputation carry equal weight.
- Do not leave choice filling to the last day. The DTE MP portal can be slow near deadlines due to heavy traffic. Complete your choice filling and locking at least 2-3 days before June 28, 2026 to avoid technical issues.
- Keep all original documents ready before the reporting window. After Round 1 seat allotment (July 3, 2026), you have just 4-5 days to report to the college. Arrange all original documents in advance so you do not miss the reporting window.
- Register for seat upgradation if you accept a Round 1 seat. Even if you get a seat in Round 1, you can still upgrade to a better choice during July 3-7, 2026. This is a free option and carries no risk — if upgradation is not possible, you keep your existing allotment.

Candidates without a JEE Main score can apply only under the Qualifying Exam (QE) route, which fills seats remaining vacant after both JEE Main-based rounds are complete. The QE route has very limited availability and higher competition since far fewer seats are offered through it.
Ques. What is the registration fee for MP Counselling 2026?
Ans. The total registration fee for MP Counselling 2026 is Rs. 1,530. This includes Rs. 400 as counselling fee, Rs. 1,000 as partial tuition fee (adjustable at the time of college admission), and Rs. 130 as portal fee. Payment is made online through net banking, debit card, or credit card at dte.mponline.gov.in.
Ques. How many choices should I fill in MP Counselling 2026?
Ans. You must fill a minimum of 25 choices in MP Counselling 2026. However, it is strongly recommended that you fill as many choices as possible — ideally 50 to 100 or more. The more choices you fill, the better your chances of receiving a seat allotment, especially if your JEE Main rank is in a competitive range. Choice filling for Round 1 is open until June 28, 2026.
Ques. When will the MP Counselling 2026 Round 1 seat allotment result be out?
Ans. The Round 1 common merit list will be released on June 29, 2026. Based on the merit list and locked choices, the Round 1 seat allotment letter will be available from July 3, 2026. Candidates allotted a seat must report to the college and complete admission formalities by July 7, 2026.
Ques. Is MP Domicile compulsory for MP Counselling 2026?
Ans. MP Domicile Certificate (Format 6) is required for 90% of available seats. However, 5% of seats are open to All India candidates without any domicile requirement, and another 5% are for NRI candidates. If you do not have MP Domicile, you can still apply for All India quota seats — but competition is high since all non-MP candidates compete for just 5% of total seats.
Ques. Is MANIT Bhopal (NIT Bhopal) part of MP DTE Counselling 2026?
Ans. No. MANIT Bhopal (NIT Bhopal), IIT Indore, and IIITDM Jabalpur are centrally funded institutions and are NOT covered under DTE MP Counselling 2026. Admissions to these institutes happen exclusively through JoSAA counselling, conducted by the Joint Seat Allocation Authority, based on JEE Main and JEE Advanced scores.
Ques. Can I change my choices after locking in MP Counselling 2026?
Ans. No. Once you lock your choices in MP Counselling 2026, changes are not allowed. Review your preference list carefully before locking. The deadline to lock Round 1 choices is June 28, 2026. An application correction window is available on June 25-26, 2026 for minor edits before final locking. Complete your locking well in advance of the deadline to avoid portal congestion.
Ques. What happens if I don’t report to the college after seat allotment in MP Counselling 2026?
Ans. If you are allotted a seat in Round 1 but do not report to the college within the window (July 3-7, 2026), your seat is automatically cancelled and offered to the next eligible candidate. You can still participate in Round 2 (registration opens July 11, 2026), but getting another allotment is not guaranteed. The partial tuition fee of Rs. 1,000 paid during registration may also be forfeited in such cases.
Ques. What is seat upgradation in MP Counselling 2026 and how does it work?
Ans. Seat upgradation in MP Counselling 2026 allows you to get a better seat from your preference list if a higher-ranked option becomes available after Round 1 allotment. If you accept a Round 1 seat and register for upgradation (July 3-7, 2026), the system checks if a better choice from your locked list is now available and moves you to that seat automatically. Reporting for upgraded seats is between July 11-15, 2026. There is no additional fee for upgradation — if no upgrade is possible, you keep your original allotment.
Ques. What is the minimum percentage required for MP Counselling 2026?
Ans. General category candidates need a minimum of 45% aggregate marks in Class 12 (10+2) with Physics and Mathematics as compulsory subjects to be eligible for MP Counselling 2026. SC, ST, and OBC candidates who are MP Domicile holders need a minimum of 40% aggregate marks in the qualifying exam.
Ques. How many rounds are there in MP Counselling 2026?
Ans. MP Counselling 2026 has two centralised rounds — Round 1 (June-July 2026) and Round 2 (July 2026). After the centralised rounds, three College Level Counselling (CLC) rounds are held in August 2026 (August 4-6, August 8-10, and August 12-14) to fill remaining vacant seats. CLC rounds generally have more relaxed cutoffs and are a good opportunity for candidates who did not receive a seat in the centralised rounds.
