• Waitlist Movement (Wave 3 — Active): IIM CAP 2026 waitlist movement is ongoing as of June 26, 2026. In 2025, IIM Jammu alone moved 437 General and 281 NC-OBC candidates before final closure. • Seat Acceptance Deadline: Any candidate receiving a CAP offer has only 5-7 days to accept it and pay the seat acceptance fee online. Missing this window forfeits the seat permanently and moves it to the next waitlisted candidate.
• Revised Closing Cutoffs: With Wave 3 ongoing, effective closing cutoffs for IIM Jammu and IIM Sirmaur are trending around 85-88 CAT 2025 percentile (General category, composite basis) — lower than the initial shortlisting cutoff. Candidates with strong PI and academic profiles can still convert.
• Class Commencement: All three CAP IIMs — IIM Bodh Gaya, IIM Jammu, and IIM Sirmaur — are expected to begin the 2026-28 MBA batch in August 2026, typically in the first or second week with orientation and joining formalities.

What is IIM CAP (IIM Common Admission Process)?

IIM CAP stands for IIM Common Admission Process. It is a joint admission exercise run by a group of Indian Institutes of Management to fill their MBA (PGP) seats. CAP was created so that candidates do not need to appear for separate Written Ability Tests (WAT) and Personal Interviews (PI) at each IIM individually. One registration, one WAT-PI round, and one composite score covers shortlisting across all participating institutes.

For the 2026-28 batch, three IIMs participate in CAP: IIM Bodh Gaya, IIM Jammu, and IIM Sirmaur. IIM Bodh Gaya is the coordinating institute for IIM CAP 2026. This is a significant change from previous years — in 2025, eight IIMs were part of CAP. For 2026, four IIMs (Kashipur, Raipur, Ranchi, and Trichy) moved to the Joint Admission Process (JAP), while IIM Udaipur and IIM Nagpur opted out of both common processes for the 2026-28 batch.

The IIM CAP process works in three stages. First, candidates must meet the CAT 2025 percentile cutoffs set by each participating IIM to be shortlisted for WAT-PI. Upcoming events appear first in the table below, in chronological order, followed by completed milestones with a red (Over) tag for reference. As of June 26, 2026, the final results are out and waitlist movement (Wave 3) is actively ongoing.

Candidates who receive a waitlist offer must accept within 5-7 days of the offer date and pay the seat acceptance fee online. Failure to respond within this window results in automatic and permanent seat forfeiture.

IIM CAP 2026 Participating Institutes and Seat Intake

For IIM CAP 2026, three IIMs participate: IIM Bodh Gaya, IIM Jammu, and IIM Sirmaur. Together, they offer approximately 895-910 MBA (PGP) seats for the 2026-28 batch. All three are government-funded IIMs established between 2015 and 2016 under the Ministry of Education.

IIM Bodh Gaya also runs two additional programmes — MBA-Digital Business Management (DBM) and MBA-Human Resources and Human Mobility (HHM), each with 90 seats — which have their own separate admission criteria. The core MBA (PGP) seats covered under CAP at IIM Bodh Gaya are around 300.

All three institutes follow Government of India reservation policies: OBC-NC (27%), SC (15%), ST (7.5%), EWS (10%), and PwD (5% horizontal reservation). Female candidates receive a 2-percentile relaxation in all CAT cutoffs across IIM CAP 2026. IIM Sirmaur also offers Supernumerary Admissions Programme (SAP) seats for women candidates in each reserved category — adding seats over and above the regular allocation.

IIM Bodh Gaya reserves approximately 9 seats (3% of total) for international students in the MBA (PGP). IIM Jammu runs 40 seats under the Super Annuity Programme (SAP), which are part of its CAP intake for the 2026-28 batch.

Note: IIM Kashipur, IIM Raipur, IIM Ranchi, and IIM Trichy moved to the Joint Admission Process (JAP) 2026. IIM Udaipur and IIM Nagpur conduct independent admissions for the 2026-28 batch and are not part of CAP or JAP.

IIM CAP 2026 Eligibility Criteria

To apply for IIM CAP 2026, you must meet the educational qualification requirements and have a valid CAT 2025 score that meets the cutoffs set by each participating IIM. Here is a complete summary:

Educational Qualification

• You must hold a Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) from a recognised university or institution. Final-year students who expect to complete their degree by June 30, 2026 are also eligible, subject to submitting their final marksheet before joining.
• Minimum 50% aggregate marks in graduation for General, EWS, and NC-OBC candidates. SC, ST, and PwD candidates need a minimum of 45% aggregate.
• Most CAP IIMs also require a minimum of 60% in Class 10 and Class 12 for full profile scoring. Falling below 60% in either school board reduces profile points significantly, even if your CAT percentile is strong.

CAT 2025 Score Requirement

• A valid CAT 2025 score is mandatory. Scores from CAT 2024 or earlier are not accepted.
• You must meet the specific overall CAT percentile AND each sectional percentile threshold set by each institute. Both conditions must be satisfied — a high overall score does not compensate for a weak sectional score.
• Sectional cutoffs apply across all three CAT sections: VARC, DILR, and QA.

Work Experience

• Work experience is not mandatory for IIM CAP 2026. Fresh graduates are admitted every year at all three CAP IIMs.
• Work experience adds profile score points. At most CAP IIMs, 2-4 years of full-time post-graduation work experience earns the highest profile points. Less than 2 years or more than 4 years earns a lower but non-zero score.
• Only full-time, paid work after completing graduation is counted. Internships, part-time roles, and work done during graduation are not considered.

• There is no upper age limit for IIM CAP 2026.

IIM CAP 2026 Application and Registration Process

The IIM CAP 2026 application window was open from January 15 to January 25, 2026 and is now closed for this cycle. For candidates preparing for IIM CAP 2027, here is how the complete registration process works:

• Step 1 — Online Registration: You register on the IIM CAP portal using your CAT registration number and date of birth. The portal automatically fetches your CAT scores and basic profile data from the CAT database.
• Step 2 — Fill Application Form: Enter personal details, academic history (Class 10, Class 12, graduation marks), and work experience details. Upload scanned documents including marksheets, degree certificate, category certificate (if applicable), and a passport-size photograph.
• Step 3 — Choose Institutes and Preferences: Select which CAP IIMs and programmes you want to be considered for. You can apply to multiple programmes across all three CAP IIMs in a single form — one application covers all of them.
• Step 4 — Pay Registration Fee: The CAP registration fee is ₹2,000 for General / EWS / NC-OBC candidates and ₹1,000 for SC / ST / PwD candidates (non-refundable). This single payment covers all three participating institutes.
• Step 5 — PI Slot Booking: After the shortlists are released based on CAT cutoffs, you book your WAT-PI slot from available dates and cities. IIM CAP 2026 PI centres included Delhi-NCR, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Kolkata, Hyderabad, Chennai, and Ahmedabad.

One CAP registration covers shortlisting, WAT-PI, and results across all three participating institutes. You do NOT need separate application forms for IIM Bodh Gaya, IIM Jammu, and IIM Sirmaur.

Documents needed at the PI stage: CAT 2025 scorecard, Class 10 and Class 12 marksheets and certificates, graduation marksheets or degree certificate (or enrollment letter for final-year students), work experience certificate (if applicable), Aadhaar card or passport, passport-sized photographs, and the IIM CAP interview call letter downloaded from the portal.

IIM CAP 2026 Selection Criteria and Composite Score Weightage

IIM Bodh Gaya assigns the highest weight to CAT score (50%) — making it the most CAT-score-driven of the three.

IIM Sirmaur uniquely includes a Trailblazer Score (5%) for exceptional achievements in sports, arts, social work, or other fields at the national or international level — a differentiator that benefits candidates with strong non-academic achievements.

IIM CAP 2026 Fee Structure

PI Preparation

• Know your resume completely: Every project, certification, gap period, and achievement on your resume is a potential question. Be able to explain any item clearly in 60 seconds.
