What is IIITH UGEE 2026?

IIITH UGEE stands for International Institute of Information Technology Hyderabad Undergraduate Entrance Examination. It is conducted by IIIT Hyderabad, a premier autonomous research university in Gachibowli, Hyderabad, established in 1998. The exam offers admission to unique 5-year Dual Degree programs where students earn both a B.Tech and an M.S. by Research simultaneously, graduating with two degrees in five years from one of India’s most research-driven technology institutions.

IIIT Hyderabad is a private deemed-to-be university and is not funded centrally like the IITs or NITs. Despite this, it is consistently ranked among India’s finest institutions for computer science, artificial intelligence, language technology, and electronics research. Undergraduate students get the opportunity to work on active research projects from their second year onwards — something very few colleges in India offer at the B.Tech level.

The UGEE 2026 exam was held on May 2, 2026, in online (Computer-Based Test) mode. A total of 130 seats are available across six dual degree programs. Selection is based on a written test followed by a mandatory on-campus interview at IIIT Hyderabad. The final offer of admission depends solely on interview performance.

Source: IIIT Hyderabad UGEE 2026 Official Brochure

SUPR – Subject Proficiency Test

SUPR tests your knowledge of Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics at the Class 11 and 12 level. It has 50 multiple-choice questions to be answered in 60 minutes — about 72 seconds per question. Each correct answer gets +1 mark and each wrong answer deducts 0.25 marks. Maximum score is 50.

SUPR functions as a qualifying gate. You must cross the SUPR cutoff before your REAP score is considered. Scoring well above the cutoff in SUPR does not improve your rank — your rank is decided entirely by REAP. So do not spend disproportionate preparation time trying to maximise your SUPR score beyond what is needed to qualify.

REAP – Research Aptitude and Problem-solving

REAP is the more important and competitive section. It has 50 questions in 120 minutes — about 144 seconds per question. Each correct answer gets +2 marks and each wrong answer deducts 0.5 marks. Maximum score is 100 marks.

REAP is completely different from standard textbook MCQs. It tests your ability to think critically, spot patterns in new situations, and reason through problems you have likely never seen before. It draws on science and math concepts, but applies them in unusual and unexpected ways. This is what makes UGEE unique among undergraduate entrance exams in India.

Your REAP score decides your interview shortlist rank. Invest the majority of your preparation time in REAP — it is the true differentiator between candidates who get an interview call and those who do not.

Three-Stage Selection Process

  • Stage 1 – Written Exam (May 2, 2026): All registered candidates appear for the 3-hour CBT covering SUPR and REAP.
  • Stage 2 – Interview Shortlisting: Candidates who cross the SUPR qualifying cutoff are ranked by REAP score. The top 800 to 1,500 are called for the on-campus interview.
  • Stage 3 – Interview (June 4–6, 2026): Shortlisted candidates attend a panel interview at IIIT Hyderabad, Gachibowli. Final admission is based entirely on interview performance.

IIITH UGEE 2026 Syllabus

The IIITH UGEE 2026 syllabus covers two different types of content. SUPR follows the standard Class 11 and 12 PCM curriculum, which overlaps significantly with JEE Main preparation. REAP has no fixed syllabus — it tests how you think, not what you have memorised. Understanding this distinction is the first step to effective preparation.

SUPR Syllabus — Class 11 and 12 PCM

SUPR is based on the CBSE Class 11 and 12 syllabus for Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics. Most state board syllabi also cover the same content. Here is an overview of key topics under each subject:

Physics:

  • Mechanics: laws of motion, work, energy, power, rotational motion, gravitation
  • Thermodynamics and kinetic theory of gases
  • Electrostatics and current electricity
  • Magnetic effects of current and electromagnetic induction
  • Ray optics and wave optics
  • Modern Physics: atomic structure, nuclear physics, photoelectric effect, semiconductor devices
  • Waves and oscillations

Chemistry:

  • Physical Chemistry: mole concept, equilibrium, thermodynamics, electrochemistry, chemical kinetics
  • Inorganic Chemistry: periodic properties, chemical bonding, coordination compounds, p-block and d-block elements
  • Organic Chemistry: hydrocarbons, functional groups, named reactions, biomolecules, polymers

Mathematics:

  • Algebra: polynomials, complex numbers, quadratic equations, sequences and series, binomial theorem
  • Coordinate Geometry: straight lines, circles, parabola, ellipse, hyperbola
  • Calculus: limits, continuity, differentiation, integration, differential equations
  • Trigonometry: identities, inverse functions
  • Vectors and 3D geometry
  • Probability and statistics
  • Matrices and determinants

REAP Syllabus — Research Aptitude and Problem-solving

REAP has no prescribed syllabus. It tests your natural problem-solving instinct and research thinking ability. The section includes a mix of MCQs and fill-in-the-blank questions. REAP questions typically involve:

  • Pattern recognition: Identifying patterns in number sequences, figures, grids, or data sets
  • Analogical reasoning: Finding relationships between concepts and drawing logical conclusions from them
  • Critical thinking: Evaluating arguments, detecting logical flaws, and reasoning with limited or ambiguous information
  • Novel problem-solving: Applying basic science or math concepts to completely new situations you may never have seen before
  • Scientific reasoning: Designing simple experiments, forming hypotheses, interpreting results
  • Data interpretation: Quickly reading and analysing charts, graphs, and tables

The best way to build REAP skills is through previous year UGEE question papers and Olympiad-style problems. Reading popular science books and articles on artificial intelligence, mathematics, and natural phenomena also helps develop the curious mindset that REAP is designed to identify.

IIITH UGEE 2026 Result

The IIITH UGEE 2026 written exam result was declared on May 11, 2026 — nine days after the exam on May 2. Both SUPR and REAP scores were published separately. Candidates who crossed the SUPR qualifying cutoff and scored high enough in REAP were shortlisted for on-campus interviews from June 4 to 6, 2026. Following the interviews, the Round-1 seat allocation was announced on June 11, 2026.

How to Check the IIITH UGEE 2026 Result and Seat Allocation

  • Visit the official admissions portal: ugadmissions.iiit.ac.in
  • Log in using your Registration Number and Password set during application
  • The result page shows your SUPR score, REAP score, overall score, and UGEE merit rank
  • Shortlisted candidates received interview call letters through the same portal before June 4
  • Round-1 seat allocation is visible on the portal for all interviewed candidates from June 11 onwards

Interview Shortlisting Criteria for 2026

Shortlisting for the interview worked in two steps. First, candidates had to cross the SUPR qualifying score. For 2026, the SUPR qualifying cutoff was reported at approximately 19 marks. Candidates who crossed this threshold were then ranked by their REAP score. The top 800 to 1,500 candidates in REAP received interview call letters.

The REAP score cutoff for interview shortlisting in 2026 was approximately 67 marks for male candidates and 63 marks for female candidates (out of a maximum 100). These cutoffs shift each year based on the number of applicants and the difficulty of that year’s paper.

Receiving an interview call does not guarantee admission. The final offer of admission is based entirely on interview performance. Written exam scores play no role in the final selection stage.

IIITH UGEE 2026 Cutoff

IIITH UGEE 2026 cutoff operates at two levels. The first is a score-based cutoff on the written exam used to shortlist candidates for interviews. The second is a rank-based cutoff — final admission offers go to interview-merit-ranked candidates until all seats in each program are filled. Lower closing ranks indicate more competitive programs.

Written Exam Shortlisting Cutoff (Score-based)

Section Male Candidates Female Candidates
SUPR (out of 50 marks) ~19 marks ~19 marks
REAP (out of 100 marks) ~67 marks ~63 marks

Program-wise Closing UGEE Rank — Previous Years

The closing rank tells you the highest interview-merit rank at which admission was offered in each program in the final round. A rank of 83 in CSD means the 83rd-ranked candidate (by interview merit) received an offer in 2025. Lower rank number = higher competition.

Program 2025 Round-1 Cutoff Rank 2025 Last Round Cutoff Rank 2024 Last Round 2023 Last Round
CSD (B.Tech CSE + M.S. CSE) 62 83 104 82
CLD (B.Tech CS + M.S. Computational Linguistics) 94 141
ECD (B.Tech ECE + M.S. ECE) ~200–250
CND (B.Tech CS + M.S. Computational Natural Sciences) 200+
CHD (B.Tech CS + M.S. Computing and Human Sciences) 200+
CGD (B.Tech CS + M.S. Geospatial Technology) 200+

Note: "–" indicates data not available from official public sources. These are interview-merit ranks assigned by IIIT Hyderabad — not JEE or any external exam ranks. Cutoff ranks for UGEE 2026 will be available once all admission rounds are complete.

Source: IIIT Hyderabad Admissions Portal

CSD is consistently the most competitive program, with a 2025 last-round closing rank of 83. If you are ranked within the top 83 in UGEE merit, you stand a strong chance at CSD. Programs like ECD, CND, CHD, and CGD typically close at ranks above 200, making them relatively more accessible for candidates who do well in the interview but are ranked outside the top 100.

IIITH UGEE 2026 Interview Process

The IIITH UGEE 2026 on-campus interviews were conducted at IIIT Hyderabad, Gachibowli, Hyderabad, from June 4 to 6, 2026. Each shortlisted candidate received an individual call letter specifying their date and time slot. This stage is crucial — final admission is based solely on how you perform in the interview. Your written exam score has no impact at this stage.

What the Interview Checks

The IIITH UGEE interview is a panel discussion, not a written test. The panel typically has two to four faculty members from IIIT Hyderabad. The interview usually lasts between 20 to 40 minutes. The panel assesses:

  • Subject understanding: Core concepts in Physics, Mathematics, and sometimes Computer Science at the Class 12 level. Deeper questions may follow based on how you respond.
  • Problem-solving approach: How you think through a problem step by step, including when you do not know the answer. Your reasoning process matters as much as the final answer.
  • Research interest: Why you want to study at IIIT Hyderabad, what topics genuinely interest you, and any reading or exploration you have done beyond your textbooks.
  • Critical thinking: Your ability to handle open-ended questions, challenge assumptions, and think through unfamiliar ideas.

The panel values intellectual curiosity and genuine thinking over rote preparation. If you do not know an answer, explain your approach and what you would try — panellists respond well to candidates who reason transparently rather than those who guess or stay silent.

Documents to Carry for the Interview

  • UGEE 2026 Admit Card (printed copy)
  • Class 10 marksheet or certificate
  • Class 12 marksheet (or hall ticket if appearing in 2026)
  • Valid government-issued photo ID (Aadhaar card, passport, or voter ID)
  • Any additional documents specifically mentioned in your individual interview call letter

The decision of the IIIT Hyderabad interview committee is final and binding. There is no provision to appeal or request re-evaluation of the interview outcome.

IIITH UGEE 2026 Seat Allocation and Admission Offers

The IIITH UGEE 2026 Round-1 seat allocation was announced on June 11, 2026 through the official admissions portal. Candidates who performed well in the June 4–6 interviews received an offer of admission in a specific program. IIIT Hyderabad’s admission process is direct — there is no separate counselling procedure or preference-submission round like JoSAA. Offers are made based on interview merit and program seat availability.

How to Accept Your UGEE 2026 Admission Offer

  • Log in to ugadmissions.iiit.ac.in with your registration number and password
  • Check the program allotted to you in Round-1
  • Click "Accept Offer" before the portal deadline — the deadline is displayed after login
  • Complete the seat confirmation fee payment as instructed on the portal
  • Download and save your offer letter — you will need it for all future communications and document submission at IIIT Hyderabad

Act on your offer without delay. Offers that are not accepted within the specified deadline are cancelled, and the seat is offered to the next eligible candidate on the merit list.

Round-2 Allotment and Waitlisted Candidates

If seats remain vacant after Round-1 offer acceptances are completed, IIIT Hyderabad may conduct a Round-2 allotment. Waitlisted candidates move up the merit list when Round-1 candidates either decline their offer or miss the acceptance deadline. Based on past years, Round-2 allotment, if held, is typically released in the last week of June. Not all programs are guaranteed to have a Round-2 — it depends on how many seats remain unfilled after Round-1.

Source: IIIT Hyderabad UGEE 2026 Brochure

CSD (Computer Science and Engineering with M.S. in CSE) is the most popular and competitive program with 35 seats and the tightest closing rank. ECD (Electronics and Communication) follows with 25 seats. The four interdisciplinary programs — CLD, CND, CHD, and CGD — each offer 15 seats. These combine Computer Science with Linguistics, Natural Sciences, Human Sciences, and Geospatial Technology respectively. They suit students with strong PCM skills and a curiosity about fields beyond core CS or ECE. IIIT Hyderabad’s strength in Natural Language Processing, for instance, makes CLD particularly relevant for students interested in AI and language technology.

All six programs are integrated. The program code at the time of your admission offer fixes your B.Tech and M.S. combination for the full five years. Students cannot switch programs after joining. Research work in the M.S. component typically begins from the second or third year.

Preparation Tips for IIITH UGEE

Preparing for IIITH UGEE demands a strategy different from JEE Main or other standard engineering entrance exams. SUPR needs solid PCM fundamentals, while REAP requires a habit of creative, curious thinking that cannot be built overnight. Here is a practical guide for both sections and the interview.

How to Prepare for SUPR

SUPR is the qualifying section — you need to cross the cutoff, not top it. Invest enough time to clear the threshold comfortably, but do not spend disproportionate effort trying to maximise your SUPR score at the expense of REAP.

  • Start with NCERT: Read all NCERT Class 11 and 12 chapters for Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics. Solve every in-text example and end-of-chapter exercise.
  • H.C. Verma for Physics: Concepts of Physics (Volume 1 and 2) builds strong conceptual understanding. Problems in this book are good practice for both SUPR and REAP.
  • Focus on high-weight Math topics: Calculus, Coordinate Geometry, Algebra, and Probability typically appear more often. Practise these regularly.
  • Physical Chemistry for scoring: Numerical problems from mole concept, thermodynamics, and electrochemistry are reliable marks if you practise them well.
  • Time pressure practice: You have about 72 seconds per question in SUPR. Regularly time yourself during mock tests to build speed and accuracy together.

How to Prepare for REAP

REAP determines your rank and your interview call. You cannot prepare for it using standard textbooks. The right approach is through deliberate reasoning practice and exposure to novel problem styles.

  • Solve UGEE previous year papers: Papers from 2019 onwards are the most relevant resource available. They show the exact style, difficulty, and variety of REAP questions.
  • Practise Olympiad problems: HBCSE Physics and Mathematics Olympiad problems, KVPY papers, and INMO problems are similar in style to REAP. They reward thinking over memory.
  • Krotov’s Physics Aptitude Book: "Aptitude Test Problems in Physics" by S.S. Krotov is widely recommended by UGEE toppers for building creative problem-solving instinct.
  • Think, do not memorise: When you solve any problem, focus on your approach and reasoning. REAP rewards the process, not just the answer.
  • Read broadly: Popular science books, math puzzle books, and articles on AI, biology, and space help build the thinking habits that REAP tests.

How to Prepare for the Interview

  • Revise Physics and Mathematics concepts: The panel may ask you to work through a problem on the spot. Be comfortable with mechanics, electromagnetism, and differential calculus.
  • Practise speaking through problems: Explain your thinking out loud when you solve problems. Panellists want to hear your reasoning, not just your answer.
  • Know your "why": Prepare a specific, genuine answer for why you want to join IIIT Hyderabad’s dual degree program and what area of research excites you.
  • Go deep into one topic: Pick a topic in CS, Math, or Physics that you find genuinely fascinating and explore it beyond the textbook. Sharing real curiosity impresses interview panels.

Ans. The IIITH UGEE 2026 application fee was Rs. 1,550 for female applicants and Rs. 3,100 for all other applicants. The fee is non-refundable. There is no fee waiver for any reserved category. All candidates in the same gender group pay the same amount.

Ques. Is IIITH UGEE admission different from JEE-based admission to IIIT Hyderabad?

Ans. Yes, they are completely different pathways. UGEE leads to 5-year Dual Degree programs (B.Tech + M.S. by Research) with a strong research focus and an interview stage. JEE Main-based admission at IIIT Hyderabad through JOSAA leads to the standard 4-year B.Tech programs in CSE and ECE without an interview. If you are specifically drawn to IIIT Hyderabad’s research culture and want a dual degree, UGEE is the more direct and appropriate path.

Ques. How should I prepare for the IIITH UGEE interview?

Ans. The IIITH UGEE interview is a panel discussion that assesses your subject understanding, problem-solving approach, and research interest. Revise core Physics and Mathematics concepts and practise explaining your thinking out loud — the panel values your reasoning process over the correct answer alone. Prepare a genuine answer for why you want to study at IIIT Hyderabad. Pick a topic in CS, Math, or Physics that genuinely excites you and be ready to discuss it with depth and curiosity.

The information above is based on official IIIT Hyderabad announcements and publicly available data as of June 15, 2026. The Round-1 seat allocation for IIITH UGEE 2026 was released on June 11, 2026.
