What is IEMJEE 2026?
IEMJEE stands for Institute of Engineering and Management Joint Entrance Exam. It is a university-level entrance test conducted by the IEM-UEM Group — the group that runs the Institute of Engineering and Management (IEM) and University of Engineering and Management (UEM). The exam is used for B.Tech admissions across campuses in Salt Lake (Kolkata), New Town (Kolkata), and Jaipur.
One of the biggest advantages of IEMJEE is that it is completely free to apply. There is no application fee for any candidate. Any Class 12 student with Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics can register and appear at zero cost.
The exam follows the JEE Main format — 90 multiple-choice questions across Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics, totalling 360 marks. It is conducted in two modes: an online CBT with a flexible exam window, and an offline paper-based exam on a fixed date. Scores from both modes are compiled into a common merit list.

Online CBT vs Offline Exam: Key Differences
- The online CBT allowed candidates to choose their own exam date and time slot within the December 2025 – May 30, 2026 window. Duration is 2 hours. Two daily slots were available: Slot I (12:00 PM – 2:00 PM) and Slot II (2:30 PM – 4:30 PM). The online exam was held at two Kolkata centres: Ashram Building (Salt Lake) and UEM New Town.
- The offline exam was held on April 3, 2026, from 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM (3 hours) at 25 centres across West Bengal, Rajasthan, Jharkhand, Bihar, and Assam. This mode gave candidates from outside Kolkata the option to appear at a centre closer to home.
- Both modes have the same syllabus, question structure, and marking scheme. Scores from both feed into the same common merit list and rank system.
The exam is generally considered easier than JEE Main. NCERT-level understanding in all three subjects is the foundation. Students who have prepared for JEE Main or WBJEE will find IEMJEE manageable. You can score above 250 out of 360 with solid preparation from standard Class 11 and 12 textbooks.
IEMJEE 2026 Syllabus
The IEMJEE 2026 syllabus is the same as JEE Main, covering Class 11 and Class 12 topics in Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics. If you have prepared for JEE Main or WBJEE, you do not need separate preparation for IEMJEE. Below is the detailed subject-wise syllabus.

Rank in IEMJEE is based entirely on marks scored in the entrance exam. If two candidates score the same marks, the IEM-UEM Group applies a tie-breaking rule. The candidate with higher marks in Mathematics is ranked above the other; if Mathematics marks are also equal, marks in Physics are compared next.
The merit list is published approximately one week after each phase’s result. Keep checking the official portal at uem.edu.in/iemjee-2026 and iem.edu.in regularly for result and merit list updates from June 2026 onwards.
IEMJEE 2026 Marks vs Rank
IEMJEE 2026 rank is based purely on marks scored in the exam. The competition level is moderate compared to JEE Main or WBJEE, which means a good score gives you a strong rank and a better branch choice. Below is an estimated marks vs rank analysis based on previous years’ trends. Actual 2026 data will be available after the consolidated result is published in June 2026.
| Marks Range (Out of 360) | Expected Rank | Likely Admission Outcome |
|---|---|---|
| 300 – 360 | 1 – 100 | CSE Core / CSE (AI & ML) at Salt Lake — Top choice |
| 260 – 299 | 101 – 300 | CSE (AI & ML, Data Science) at Salt Lake or New Town |
| 220 – 259 | 301 – 600 | CSE (IoT, Cyber Security, AI & DS) at New Town |
| 180 – 219 | 601 – 1,000 | ECE, IT at Salt Lake or New Town |
| 140 – 179 | 1,001 – 1,500 | Electrical, Mechanical at Salt Lake or Jaipur |
| Below 140 | 1,501 and above | Civil, Biotechnology, or Jaipur campus branches |
Note: These figures are estimates based on historical trends from previous years. Actual ranks in 2026 depend on the total number of candidates and exam difficulty. The IEM-UEM Group does not publish an official marks-vs-rank table. The 2026 consolidated marks vs rank data will be clearer once the final result is declared in June 2026.
Students scoring above 300 out of 360 have a strong chance of getting CSE at Salt Lake — the most preferred branch-campus combination. If your score is between 220 and 260, you can still get a CSE specialization at New Town. Candidates with ranks above 1,500 should consider Jaipur campus branches or non-CSE engineering streams, which have lower cutoffs and often have seats available in later counselling phases.
IEMJEE 2026 Cutoff
The IEMJEE 2026 cutoff is the minimum rank needed to get a seat in a specific branch at a specific campus. Cutoffs vary by branch, campus, and category. Phase 1 cutoff data is now available from the April 2026 counselling round; the final cutoff will be determined after all counselling phases are complete in July 2026.
Branch-wise Indicative Cutoff Rank — Based on Phase 1 (2026) Trends

IEMJEE 2026 Preparation Tips
IEMJEE 2026 is based entirely on Class 11 and 12 PCM, following the JEE Main pattern. The difficulty level is moderate — easier than JEE Main but with the same format and negative marking. Since the exam window has now closed, these tips are most relevant for 2027 aspirants. For 2026 candidates already through the exam, this section helps understand what the preparation focus should be going into the academic session.
1. Build on NCERT First
Most IEMJEE questions at the basic and moderate level are directly aligned with NCERT concepts. Go through all NCERT chapters for Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics (Classes 11 and 12) thoroughly. Do not skip theory — the definitions, laws, and formulas from NCERT appear directly in the paper.
2. Use JEE Main Resources
Since IEMJEE mirrors the JEE Main format exactly — same question type, same marking scheme, same subjects — you can use all JEE Main study material, mock tests, and previous year papers for IEMJEE preparation. No separate books are needed for IEMJEE specifically.
3. Prioritize Mathematics and Calculus
Mathematics separates toppers in IEMJEE. Calculus (Differentiation and Integration) and Algebra (Complex Numbers, Matrices, Permutation and Combination) together form more than 50% of the Math section. Practice at least 30 to 40 problems daily in these areas during the last two months before your exam.
4. Solve Previous Year IEMJEE Papers
- IEMJEE previous year question papers from 2023, 2024, and 2025 are available online for free download.
- Solving these papers helps you understand the question style, topic frequency, and difficulty level.
- Time your practice sessions — complete the 90-question paper within 2 hours to simulate the actual online CBT conditions.
5. Handle Negative Marking Smartly
IEMJEE has a –1 penalty for each wrong answer. Do not guess randomly. If you are not at least 60–70% sure of an answer, leave it blank. Unattempted questions carry zero marks, which is better than losing a mark. Accuracy matters more than attempting all questions.
6. Revise Chemistry Regularly
Chemistry has three distinct parts — Physical, Organic, and Inorganic — and each needs a different study approach. Physical Chemistry needs formula-based practice. Organic Chemistry needs understanding of reaction mechanisms. Inorganic Chemistry (periodic trends, coordination compounds) needs regular short-note revision to retain facts.
7. Take Full Mock Tests Weekly
- Take at least one full mock test every week in the final month before your exam date.
- After each test, spend equal or more time analyzing your mistakes — identify weak topics and target them specifically.
- Focus on improving accuracy in strong topics before spending time on very weak areas.
IEMJEE is a strong option for students who are solid in PCM and want a reliable engineering admission at an established private institute in Kolkata or Jaipur. With targeted preparation of 4–6 weeks, a JEE Main aspirant can comfortably aim for a CSE branch at one of the Kolkata campuses.

You need a minimum of 60% aggregate marks in the qualifying exam and a minimum of 70% in PCM combined. There is no age limit. Both Indian and foreign nationals can apply.
Ques. Is IEMJEE harder than JEE Main?
Ans. No. IEMJEE is generally considered easier than JEE Main. The syllabus and pattern are identical to JEE Main, but the difficulty level of questions is moderate — closer to NCERT level. Students who have prepared for JEE Main or WBJEE will find IEMJEE manageable. A good JEE Main aspirant can score 280+ in IEMJEE without much additional preparation.
Ques. What is a good score in IEMJEE 2026?
Ans. A score above 300 out of 360 is considered excellent and typically gives you a top 100 rank, securing CSE Core or CSE (AI & ML) at IEM Salt Lake. A score between 220 and 260 gives you a rank in the 300–600 range, which is good enough for CSE specializations at IEM New Town. Anything above 180 should secure ECE or IT at one of the Kolkata campuses.
Ques. What is the IEMJEE 2026 exam pattern?
Ans. IEMJEE 2026 has 90 multiple-choice questions — 30 each from Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics. Each correct answer gives +4 marks. Each wrong answer deducts –1 mark. Unattempted questions carry zero marks. The total is 360 marks. The online CBT duration is 2 hours; the offline exam duration is 3 hours. The pattern is the same as JEE Main.
Ques. How do I get my IEMJEE 2026 admit card?
Ans. The IEMJEE 2026 admit card (hall ticket) is sent directly to your registered email ID after you book your exam slot. There is no separate download link. Check your inbox and spam/junk folder after slot booking. If you do not receive it within 24 hours, contact the helpline at 8010700500 or email admissions@iemcal.com. Since the 2026 window has now closed, all appearing candidates should already have their hall tickets from email.
Ques. How many counselling phases are there in IEMJEE 2026?
Ans. IEMJEE 2026 counselling is conducted in multiple phases. Phase 1 ran from April 2–11, 2026. Around 6 more phases are expected between June and July 2026 after the consolidated merit list is published. Each phase progressively fills seats. Dates for Phase 2 onwards will be announced on uem.edu.in/iemjee-2026 and iem.edu.in after the merit list release in June 2026.
Ques. Can I get CSE at IEM Kolkata with an IEMJEE rank of 500?
Ans. A rank of 500 in IEMJEE 2026 may not secure CSE Core or CSE (AI & ML) at IEM Salt Lake, as Phase 1 cutoffs for these branches are typically up to rank ~150. However, a rank of 500 should give you a good CSE specialization (Data Science, AI, or IoT) at IEM New Town campus — Phase 1 cutoffs for these branches range up to rank 600. Later counselling phases may also open additional seats, so participate in every phase if you are targeting a CSE branch.
Ques. What is the seat confirmation fee for IEMJEE 2026?
Ans. The seat confirmation fee for IEMJEE 2026 counselling is ₹7,000. You must pay this amount online after receiving your seat allotment to confirm and block your seat. This ₹7,000 is adjusted against the total tuition fees when you join the college — it is not an additional charge on top of the full fees. If you do not pay the confirmation fee within the deadline, your allotted seat is released to the next eligible candidate.

The IEMJEE exam pattern for the BTech exam is the same as that of the JEE Main exam pattern. The question paper includes questions from Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics. All the questions from the three subjects will be divided into 3 separate sections.
Each section will comprise 30 questions, wherein each question will carry 4 marks. Each section will carry a total of 120 marks, and the total marks will be 360. There is a provision of negative marking wherein 1 mark will be deducted for each incorrect answer.
