How to calculate GAT B score?

To calculate the GAT B score, the candidate needs to understand the marking scheme of the GAT B exam

  • Section A: Comprises 60 MCQs based on class 12th-level science subjects (Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, and Biology). 1 mark will be awarded for each correct answer, with no negative marking for incorrect answers.
  • Section B: This section consists of 100 MCQs at the graduate level in subjects like Basic Biology, Life Sciences, Biotechnology, and allied areas. 3 marks will be awarded for each correct answer and -1 for each incorrect answer.

Calculating the GAT B Score

  • Correct Answers: Count the number of correct answers in each section.
  • Incorrect Answers: Count the number of incorrect answers in Section B.
  • Calculate Section A Score: Multiply the number of correct answers by 1 (since each correct answer in Section A earns 1 mark).
  • Calculate Section B Score: Multiply the number of correct answers by 3 (since each correct answer in Section B earns 3 marks). Then, subtract the number of incorrect answers (since each incorrect answer in Section B deducts 1 mark).
  • Total Score: Add the scores from Section A and Section B to get your total score.

Total Score = (Correct Answers in A × 1) + [(Correct Answers in B × 3) – Incorrect Answers in B]

Section Correct Answers Incorrect Answers Marks per Correct Answer Marks per Incorrect Answer Total Score Calculation Total Score
Section A 50 0 1 0 50 × 1 = 50 50
Section B 70 20 3 -1 (70 × 3) - 20 = 210 - 20 = 190 190
Total Score - - - - 50 + 190 = 240 240
