What is CGBSE?
CGBSE stands for the Chhattisgarh Board of Secondary Education (छत्तीसगढ़ माध्यमिक शिक्षा मण्डल). It is the official state government body that regulates and conducts secondary and higher secondary education in Chhattisgarh. The board was established on July 20, 2001, shortly after Chhattisgarh was carved out of Madhya Pradesh on November 1, 2000. CGBSE began conducting its own independent examinations from 2002 onwards.
The board conducts the High School Certificate (HSC) examination for Class 10 and the Higher Secondary School Certificate (HSSC) examination for Class 12 every year. These are the two most important examinations it manages. CGBSE also conducts Diploma in Education, Diploma in Physical Education, and various vocational certificate exams.
CGBSE is headquartered at Pension Bada, Raipur, Chhattisgarh — 492001. It has four divisional offices at Bilaspur, Ambikapur, Jagdalpur, and Rajnandgaon that manage exam logistics across all 33 districts of the state. More than 5.6 lakh students appeared in CGBSE 2026 across both classes, making it one of the larger state boards in central India.

CGBSE Eligibility Criteria 2026
The CGBSE eligibility criteria are set separately for Class 10 and Class 12. You must meet all the conditions below to appear in the board exams. Both regular students (enrolled in CGBSE-affiliated schools) and private candidates must fulfill the eligibility requirements.
CGBSE Class 10 Eligibility
- You must have passed Class 9 from a CGBSE-affiliated school or any recognized board
- You must have a minimum 75% attendance in Class 9 and Class 10
- There is no maximum age limit for regular students
- Private candidates — those who failed Class 10 in a previous year or completed Class 9 from a non-affiliated school — can also apply directly through CGBSE
- Students of open school (National Institute of Open Schooling or Chhattisgarh Open School) appearing for Class 10 equivalence exams also register separately
CGBSE Class 12 Eligibility
- You must have passed Class 10 from CGBSE, CBSE, ICSE, or any other recognized state board
- You must have passed Class 11 from a CGBSE-affiliated school or equivalent
- You must have a minimum 75% attendance in Class 11 and Class 12
- You should generally be at least 17 years old (by December 31 of the exam year)
- Private candidates include students who failed Class 12 in a previous year, passed Class 10 two or more years ago without continuing in Class 11, or are repeating individual failed subjects
- You must select your stream (Science / Commerce / Arts) at the time of registration — this cannot be changed after form submission without formal CGBSE approval
Documents Required at the Time of CGBSE Registration
- Passport-sized photograph (recent, clear background)
- Signature scan
- Aadhaar card (mandatory for eKYC verification)
- Previous class mark sheet (Class 9 for Class 10 applicants; Class 10 and Class 11 for Class 12 applicants)
- Caste certificate (for SC / ST / OBC candidates where applicable)
- School’s CGBSE affiliation number and head teacher’s certification
CGBSE 2026 Application Process
The CGBSE registration for the 2026 board exams was carried out through schools from October to November 2025. This process is now over for the 2026 cycle. Students planning to appear in CGBSE 2027 should expect registration to open again around October 2026.
Here is how the CGBSE exam registration process works for future reference:
For Regular (School-enrolled) Students
- Your school collects your registration form and submits it to the CGBSE divisional office in your region
- You provide your photograph, Aadhaar card, and previous class mark sheet to your school
- Your school fills in your details, selects subjects, and pays the registration fee on your behalf
- You must verify all details — name, date of birth, subject choices — in the form before your school submits it
- After submission, the school receives your roll number and registration confirmation
For Private Candidates
- Private candidates (repeaters, ex-students, and eligible students not enrolled in a CGBSE school) can apply directly through the official CGBSE portal
- You need to upload your documents online, pay the fee digitally, and track your application status on the portal
- Your admit card is also generated through the portal — you do not need a school to collect it for you
Fee and Deadline Structure
- Registration without late fee: October 1 – November 16 (standard window for 2025-26 cycle)
- Registration with late fee: November 17 – November 30
- Applications submitted after the final deadline are not accepted under any circumstances
- The registration fee varies by category — SC/ST candidates generally pay a lower fee than general category candidates
CGBSE Admit Card 2026
The CGBSE 2026 admit card was released in February 2026, about two weeks before the start of the board exams. It was available on the official CGBSE portal vidia.cgbse.nic.in. Students downloaded it using their roll number and registration credentials.
The admit card is a mandatory document for entering the exam hall. No student is allowed to sit for the exam without it. Here is what you need to know about the CGBSE admit card:
- The admit card carries your roll number, exam centre name and address, exam date and time for each subject, and instructions for exam day
- You must check all details when you download it — your name spelling, roll number, date of birth, and subject list
- If any information is incorrect, report it to your school and the nearest CGBSE divisional office immediately
- You must carry a valid photo ID (Aadhaar, school ID card) along with the admit card on every exam day
- Private candidates download their admit card directly from cgbse.nic.in using their application number
For the 2026 main exam, admit cards have already been issued and exams are complete. Students appearing in the CGBSE 2026 compartment exam will get a separate admit card when the compartment exam is scheduled — expected around July 2026. Keep checking cgbse.nic.in for the compartment admit card once the official notification is out.
If you lose your admit card, contact your school immediately. Schools can reprint the admit card from the CGBSE school login portal. Private candidates can request a duplicate from the divisional office.

How to Apply for CGBSE Compartment Exam 2026
- Wait for the official notification on cgbse.nic.in
- Download the application form from the official portal
- Fill in your roll number, subjects in which you failed, and personal details
- Pay the application fee as mentioned in the official notification
- Submit the form before the deadline — use the late fee window if you miss the first
- Download your compartment exam admit card from cgbse.nic.in when released
What Happens After Clearing the Compartment Exam?
If you clear the CGBSE compartment exam, your marksheet is updated with the new marks. Your final mark sheet and certificate will reflect that you passed the subject in the supplementary round. Most universities and degree colleges across India accept CGBSE compartment results for admission. However, some competitive programs — including admissions to NITs and IITs — require you to have passed all subjects in the main exam. For general college admissions in Chhattisgarh, the compartment result is treated the same as the main result.
CGBSE 2026 Revaluation and Rechecking
If you are not happy with your CGBSE 2026 marks, you can apply for revaluation (rechecking) of your answer sheet. CGBSE allows students to request a re-examination of their paper within a specified window after the result. The fee is ₹100 per subject — one of the lowest revaluation fees among state boards in India.
What Does CGBSE Revaluation Cover?
- Recounting of marks to ensure all answers have been evaluated
- Checking for any unevaluated or partially evaluated answers
- Verification of marks transfer from answer sheet to the official mark sheet
- Re-evaluation of any answer that was left unchecked by the examiner
CGBSE’s revaluation is primarily a quality check of the existing evaluation — it does not involve a fresh examiner re-marking the paper from scratch. Your marks cannot decrease after revaluation; they can remain the same or go up if an error is found.
How to Apply for CGBSE Revaluation
- Go to cgbse.nic.in and log in with your roll number
- Select the Revaluation / Rechecking option from the student portal
- Choose the subject(s) you want to get rechecked
- Pay the fee of ₹100 per subject online
- Save the payment acknowledgement for reference
- Revaluation results are declared within 30–45 days
The revaluation window is typically open for 10–15 days after the result declaration. With the CGBSE 2026 result declared on April 29, 2026, the revaluation window may have recently closed or may be closing very soon. Check cgbse.nic.in immediately to confirm the current status.
If you are on the borderline (29–32 marks in a subject) and did not apply for revaluation in time, you will need to clear the subject through the compartment exam. Revaluation and compartment are separate routes — one cannot substitute for the other.
CGBSE Pass Percentage: Year-wise Trends
The CGBSE pass percentage has been improving steadily over recent years. The 2026 Class 10 pass rate of 77.15% is the highest in at least the last five years. Class 12 pass rates have fluctuated — 2024 saw an unusually high 87.04%, which dipped in 2025 (80.74%) before recovering to 83.04% in 2026.
| Year | Class 10 Pass % | Class 12 Pass % | Approx. Students Appeared |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2022 | 74.23% | 79.30% | ~8 lakh (both classes combined) |
| 2023 | 75.05% | 79.96% | ~5.5 lakh (combined) |
| 2024 | 75.64% | 87.04% | ~5.9 lakh (combined) |
| 2025 | 75.61% | 80.74% | ~5.7 lakh (combined) |
| 2026 | 77.15% | 83.04% | ~5.66 lakh (combined) |
Source: cgbse.nic.in
The Class 12 pass percentage spike in 2024 (87.04%) was unusually high compared to surrounding years — analysts attributed it to a relatively lenient marking scheme that year. Numbers returned to the typical range in 2025 (80.74%) and improved moderately in 2026 (83.04%). The Class 10 pass percentage has been on a steady upward trend from 74.23% in 2022 to 77.15% in 2026.
Gender-wise Trends in CGBSE
In CGBSE 2026, the Class 12 girls’ pass percentage (86.04%) is more than 7 percentage points above boys’ (78.86%). In 2025, girls passed at 84% and boys at 76% in Class 12 — the gap held steady in 2026. Girls have consistently topped the merit list in multiple years and continue to outperform boys across all streams in CGBSE board exams.
Admission After CGBSE Class 12
Passing CGBSE Class 12 opens admission opportunities across a wide range of undergraduate programs — from engineering and medicine to commerce, arts, and law. Here is what you need to know about the admission process after CGBSE 2026.
Engineering and Technical Courses
- For B.Tech and diploma engineering courses in Chhattisgarh, admissions are managed by the Directorate of Technical Education (DTE) Chhattisgarh through online counselling at cgdte.admissions.nic.in
- For NIT Raipur and other NITs, you need a valid JEE Main score — CGBSE Class 12 PCM with at least 75% is the eligibility baseline (65% for reserved categories)
- For IITs, you need JEE Advanced after qualifying JEE Main
- DTE Chhattisgarh counselling for engineering admissions is expected to begin around July 2026 — in 2025, it started in the second week of July
- Some private engineering colleges in Chhattisgarh accept direct admission based on CGBSE Class 12 PCM percentage without entrance exam scores
Medical Courses (MBBS, BDS, BAMS)
- For MBBS, BDS, and all government medical courses in India, you must clear NEET UG
- CGBSE Class 12 Science (PCB) with at least 50% marks in Physics, Chemistry, and Biology combined is the eligibility baseline (45% for SC/ST/OBC/PwD categories)
- Chhattisgarh has 85% state quota seats and 15% All India Quota (AIQ) seats in medical colleges
- State medical counselling for Chhattisgarh NEET quota is handled by the state health authority
Central Universities and CUET

CGBSE Preparation Tips
If you are preparing for the CGBSE board exams — whether for Class 10 or Class 12 — here are practical tips based on the CGBSE exam pattern, syllabus, and what past toppers have recommended.
- Use only CGBSE-prescribed textbooks: CGBSE board exams are almost entirely based on the official textbooks published by SCERT Chhattisgarh. These are available on cgbse.nic.in. Do not rely on generic NCERT textbooks alone — use CGBSE-specific texts where available, and supplement with NCERT for Class 12 Science where syllabi overlap.
- Practice previous year question papers: CGBSE question papers from the last 5–10 years are the best preparation tool. They give you the clearest picture of the question types, marks distribution, and difficulty level. Focus especially on the 2023, 2024, and 2025 papers — they reflect the current pattern.
- Never ignore internal assessment marks: For Class 10, internal assessment carries 25 marks per subject. For Class 12, it is 20–30 marks depending on the subject. These marks are easier to secure than theory marks — scoring well in internals significantly reduces the pressure on the theory exam.
- Time your practice: Write full papers within 3 hours during practice sessions to build speed and time management. Many students find that they know the content but struggle to finish within the time limit — regular timed mock tests fix this.
- Class 12 Science: take practicals seriously: Practicals carry 30 marks per subject (Physics, Chemistry, Biology). A strong practical performance can push your total score by 10–15 marks compared to a classmate who performs equally in theory. Practice experiments thoroughly and prepare for viva voce questions.
- Start revision 2 months before the exam: CGBSE exams start in February. Begin full-syllabus revision in December so you have 6–8 weeks for revision and 2–3 weeks for mock tests in January before practicals start.
- Focus on Social Science and Languages: Many students overlook these subjects while focusing on Mathematics and Science. Social Science and Languages together carry more than 30% of your total marks. Scoring 80+ in these subjects is very achievable with consistent reading and writing practice.
- For Mathematics, always show working: CGBSE awards marks for steps, not just the final answer. In Mathematics, even a partially correct approach earns you marks. Write all calculations clearly in your answer sheet — never write just the final answer for multi-step problems.
