What is CEETA PG 2026?

CEETA PG stands for Common Engineering Entrance Test and Admissions — Post Graduate. It is a state-level entrance test conducted by Anna University, Chennai, through its Centre for Admissions (CFA), on behalf of the Government of Tamil Nadu. The exam is the primary gateway for admission to M.E., M.Tech., M.Arch., and M.Plan. programmes in government, government-aided, and self-financing engineering colleges across the state.

From 2026 onwards, CEETA PG replaces the earlier TANCET (Tamil Nadu Common Entrance Test) for PG Engineering admissions. While the purpose and structure are similar to TANCET, the new exam comes under the unified CFA framework that also manages undergraduate admissions in Tamil Nadu. The counselling process under CEETA PG is called CEAP (Common Engineering Admission Procedure), managed by the CFA portal at cfa.annauniv.edu.

The exam is held in offline (OMR-based) mode and lasts two hours. It tests candidates on Engineering Mathematics, Basic Engineering Sciences, and a discipline-specific subject paper. More than 200 engineering colleges across Tamil Nadu participate in the CEAP single-window counselling. Eligibility for GATE Category Candidates

Candidates with a valid GATE 2024, 2025, or 2026 score can apply for M.E./M.Tech. seats through the separate GATE category in CEAP without appearing for CEETA PG. However, candidates who appeared in the GATE XE or XL paper must additionally qualify in CEETA PG to be eligible under the GATE category for Tamil Nadu PG admissions. This is because XE and XL are broad interdisciplinary papers, and CEETA PG provides a discipline-specific assessment for those candidates.

Steps to Apply for CEETA PG

• Step 1 — Create Account: Visit tancet.annauniv.edu and register with a valid email ID and mobile number. Login credentials will be sent to your email.
• Step 2 — Fill the Application Form: Enter your personal details, educational qualifications, and choose your Part III subject group (Group A or Group B). You can only choose one subject group — pick the one matching your B.E./B.Tech. specialisation.
• Step 3 — Upload Photo and Signature: Upload a recent passport-size photograph and your signature in the prescribed format and file size. Blurry or incorrectly formatted uploads can lead to form rejection.
• Step 4 — Pay the Fee: Pay the application fee online using a credit card, debit card, or net banking. The fee is non-refundable once paid, even if you do not appear for the exam.
• Step 5 — Submit and Download: Submit the completed form and download the acknowledgement slip. This slip has your application number, which you need for all future communications including admit card and result.

If you are preparing for CEETA PG in the next cycle, or reviewing your strategy after the 2026 exam, these tips will help you score better. The exam tests your fundamentals across three clear areas, and each needs a different approach.

Build a Strong Base in Engineering Mathematics

Part I carries 20 marks and is identical for all candidates across all disciplines. Good preparation here benefits you regardless of your branch. Focus on Calculus, Differential Equations, Laplace and Fourier Transforms, and Applied Probability. These topics repeat year after year with minor variations. Work through solved examples in your B.E./B.Tech. Mathematics textbooks until the concepts feel natural.

Do Not Skip Basic Engineering Sciences

Part II also carries 20 marks and covers first and second-year B.E./B.Tech. subjects. Many candidates ignore this section because it feels broad. That is a mistake. The Physics, Chemistry, Material Science, and Computers questions are based on well-defined fundamentals. Spending two focused weeks on this section can add 15 or more marks, which directly improves your rank.

Go Deep on Your Core Subject for Part III

Part III carries 60 marks — the largest share. Most of your preparation time should go here. TANCET PG question papers from 2016 to 2024 are the best available practice material since CEETA PG follows a very similar three-part structure. Solve at least two full papers per week in the last month of preparation. Time yourself strictly — you have 120 minutes for 100 answers, which is about 1.2 minutes per question on average.

Manage Negative Marking Carefully

• Do not guess randomly — a wrong answer costs 0.25 marks, and losses add up quickly across 20–30 guesses
